Waste Collection Guidelines Bulky landfill items are collected every two weeks on your regular collection day. Items such as couches, mattresses, box springs, upholstered chairs, rugs, vacuum cleaners, plastic lawn furniture, toilets, sinks and windows are collected. Place items curbside no sooner than 5:00 pm, the day before pick up. Each item may weigh up to 100 kgs (220 lbs) and measure up to 1.8m (6ft) long. Landfill items include: Two trucks will collect your waste on your collection day. One truck will pick up garbage, bulky landfill items and green cart waste. Another truck will collect blue bag recyclables, paper and cardboard. Collection starts at 7:00 am. Have your waste out by 7:00, collection times vary due to weather and road conditions, construction. Wood and Metal Collection takes place once a year, in the fall. Items are picked up during a two-week period, on your regular collection day. Wood and metal are not collected in spring. Each household can put out a combined volume of 4 cubic metres of wood and metal items (2 metres/ 6.5 feet x 2 metres/ 6.5 feet) x 1 metre/ 3.2 feet. Each item may weigh up to 140 kgs (308 lbs) and be up to 1.8m (6ft) long. Wood and metal items are not collected bi-weekly with bulky landfill items. Curbside Electronics Collection takes place once every year, in the fall. Electronics are collected during a two-week period. Each household can put out three electronics for pick up on their regular collection day during that time. Do not smash electronics as you put them roadside. Electronics must be dropped off at a depot during the rest of the year. Leaf and Yard Waste: residents are required to use heavy kraft paper bags for leaf and yard waste. Switching from plastic to paper leaf bags reduces plastic contamination in the organics stream. Plastic bags will no longer be accepted. Questions?
