Q3 Details Retiree need to email COA.PEPRorgam@austintexas.gov to be registered for any PE classes you wish to attend. Q3 Dates: July 6th—September 26th Retirees can also access the HealthyConnections YouTube Channel to view strength, cardio and yoga classes led by our PE Instructors. 2
Table of Contents In-Person PE Classes In-person PE classes meet once per week at various City/public locations. Each class has a class captain who is responsible for taking attendance and announcing any cancelled classes. Retirees need to share a personal email with your class captain at the first class so you have a way of being alerted to any cancelled classes. In-Person Class YMCA Spin Class Attendance Requirement: 1 class per week (Town Lake YMCA) All ages and fitness levels are welcome. Increase muscle strength and endurance by participating in indoor spinning classes on stationary bikes. Participants go at their own pace, making it a good choice for beginners as well as intermediate participants. It’s a low impact workout. Gel bike seat or bike shorts are recommended. Classes are at the YMCA, Town Lake location. In-Person Class BollyX Cardio Attendance Requirement: 1 class per week Experience a Bollywood-inspired dance cardio workout that combines exhilarating calorie-burning choreography with upbeat music from around the world. No Dance experience needed. All levels welcome. Suggested to bring a water bottle, hand towel and your inner rock star. Class will take place outside at City Hall on the mezzanine. In-Person Class Strength Attendance Requirement: 1 class per week All ages and fitness levels are welcome. PE Strength is a total body strength training class that includes cardiovascular conditioning with resistance training. The workout tones major muscle groups, burns fat, increases bone density, and improves core strength. Participants work out using resistance bands (provided) or their own body weight. In-Person Class Zumba Attendance Requirement: 1 class per week All ages and fitness levels welcome. Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance workout that improves total body fitness. The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body, with easy-to-follow dance steps. In-Person Class Hatha Flow Yoga Attendance Requirement: 1 class per week This class is suitable for those with some experience and those looking for a slightly more active yoga class. Links yoga postures into a sequence of movements facilitated by the breath. A flow class involves moving from one posture to another with little rest between poses. In-Person Class Tai Chi Attendance Requirement: 1 class per week Beginner Tai Chi will focus on learning the movements of Tai Chi and is perfect for those who have never taken a Tai Chi class. Instructors from Austin Tai Chi will guide you through the flowing movements and help you gain mastery over the basics. You will soon be on your way to reduced stress and improved balance and coordination. In-Person Class Disc Golf Attendance Requirement: 1 class per week Everyone is welcome! No prior experience required. Similar to regular golf only played with flying discs. This is a non-impact, slow paced sport. Whether you’re new to the game or a regular player, come to learn some-thing new or just to have fun. Class will play a rotating 9 holes each week at the Zilker Disc Golf Course. Improve your fitness and increase flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance by walking in a social setting. In-Person Class Run/Walk Attendance Requirement: 1 class per week All ages and fitness levels are welcome. Exercise to increase flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance by walking, jogging or running at your own pace. Walkers are welcome! Classes are fun and include a variety of workouts for all levels, including intervals, hill training, and core work.
