Golf News A LETTER FROM THE TURF MAINTENANCE TEAM It has been a truly transitional spring with some days sunny and in the 70's to days with wind chills in the 30's. On the positive side it has been somewhat of a dry spring. The dryer weather has given the grounds crew the opportunity to get a lot accomplished on the course. We have finished removing all the trees for this season. Most of which were dead or dying. The white pines that were removed at the first tee and green and the third green will help negotiate cart traffic more efficiently reducing wear and tear. The largest benefit will be to the health of the first and third greens with improved John Chassard sunlight and air movement. The remaining tree work for the season will focus on Director of Grounds pruning and cleaning up trees throughout the course. 610.967.4643 jchassard@lehighcc.com The greens were aerified in early April and are a little slow recovering due to the cool weather. They are being lightly top-dressed on a regular basis and should come into fine form shortly. We have spent a significant amount of time working on grassing cart path edges and areas throughout the course. I'll ask that you please be aware of the cart directional signs to help keep these areas looking as pristine as possible. There have been improvements at the range and the tennis facility which is still a work in progress. We have welcomed back our H2B workers for the season. We are very grateful to have them part of our grounds team. They are a major benefit in helping us prepare and keep the course in the condition you have come to expect. I'd like to highlight Carlos (Charlie) Iniguez Perez who is in his 16th season of traveling to Lehigh each year leaving his family in Mexico to work not only on the grounds crew but also the kitchen crew helping out Chef Randy on occasion. We are very fortunate to have Charlie and many others on the team this season to make Lehigh the best it can be. In closing, I'm asking again for you to take pride in your golf course. Please fix your ball marks, repair divots, and take the time to properly rake the bunkers. If every golfing member would take ownership, the golf course will be in the best condition that it possibly can!! I look forward to seeing you on the links! Swing easy, John Chassard 10 Lehigh Express May 2021

Club News A LETTER FROM THE MEN'S LOCKER ROOM The Men’s Locker Room is starting to see a lot of activity as spring, hopefully, continues to cooperate and many rounds of golf are being played. The whole staff is back in place in the locker room and the calendar keeps on flipping pages; can you believe it’s May! This month, the Men’s Twilight league is in full swing, so Thursday nights are busy in the Men’s Lounge. It’s nice to see all the snowbirds beginning to return to their northern Club. Remember, if you don’t have a shoe guy in Florida, please drop off your shoes for a tune up before your next round. I would like to remind all members of two specific Club policies. First, children Ivan Fenstermacher under the age of 16 are not permitted in the locker room. Children 16 and 17, must Men's Locker Room be accompanied by an adult to be in the locker room. No one under the age of 18 is 610.435.5311 menslockerroom@lehighcc.com permitted in the Men’s Lounge. 18–20-year-old men, may be in the Men’s Lounge if accompanied by an adult at least 25 years of age. And per state law, the bar seat may not be used by anyone under the age of 21. The second policy I get asked about all the time is the shoe tipping policy. The official policy is this… Male locker holders are permitted 2 pair per day at no service charge, however a gratuity is expected. All other members and guests – the service charge is $3.00 plus gratuity per pair. This can get rather confusing, especially if you bring a bag of shoes to be done while you play golf or have lunch. The fact remains that my staff and I are sincerely appreciative of the gratuity you leave with your shoes and along with that, members ask me how we split up those tips. All the gratuities are added up in a week (Tuesday to Sunday) Shoe Room and Lounge gratuities; and split up evenly based upon our hours worked. I would like to welcome all the new members to the Club. Some of you I have met and some, have not. Gentlemen, please stop by the locker room next time you are at the Club and visit the Men’s Lounge for a quick lunch. Looking forward to a great year. Ivan Fenstermacher Do Your Shoes Need Some TLC? Maybe the Men’s Locker Room Can Help!” 18 Lehigh Express May 2021

Club News A LETTER FROM CHEF RANDY Dear Lehigh Members, Spring is here. Still no news on the domestic snapper turtle production, which means we are going to be serving lobster bisque in replacement untill we can get fresh turtles. We are adding a new walk-in freezer in the next two weeks to replace a freezer which has succumbed to years of hard use. I asked Chef Hardy how old the former unit was, he told me it was due to be replaced when he started here in 1978. Chef Randy As far as food goes, we are excited for the change of seasonal ingredients 610.433.7443 x229 chefrandy@lehighcc.com available to us i.e.: fruits, vegetables, seafood and meats. Also, keep us in mind when your friends and neighbors’ children are looking for part time and seasonal employment, we sure could use some help. Thank you, Chef Randy 20 Lehigh Express May 2021

Club News RECOGNITION & AWARDS MARCH EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT Ivan Fenstermacher Men's Locker Room I was grateful to secure the position as your Men's Locker Room manager in April of 2009 and I still feel that same way! My wife Deanne and I have two children. Sarah turned 19 last month and is in her freshman year at Stockton University and our son Travis will be 21 in August and is a junior year at DeSales University. We are very proud of their dean's list grades they have been holding while muddling through all the COVID challenges kids are facing during what should be a more exciting time in their lives. Deanne is Comptroller at DeSales and loves the beach. Our family vacations usually end up in the on the shores of the Carolinas or somewhere coastal. She and I enjoy taking long walks around our neighborhood, playing cards, quoits or board games with our next-door neighbors. Absolute favorite part of my job happens when it rains just enough to make the course a little muddy and the outdoor dining not a favorite option for the golfers. I get lots of shoe business and the Men's Lounge fills up. That's a win - win day!. Coming up with interesting ideas for Men's Nights has been a huge challenge I'm still trying to figure out. I also really like getting to know the staff, particularly my staff in the locker room. I am lucky to have Cooper, Chase, Hunter and now Bill to work with daily. I hope to see you all enjoying the Club this summer! Lehigh Express May 2021 27
Club News RECOGNITION & AWARDS MARCH EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH Congrats Fianna, Server Assistant! Hello, my name is Fianna and I am currently a server assistant! I began working here at Lehigh Country in July of 2020 as a snack bar attendant down by the pool and have graciously made my way up top to the restaurant. My favorite thing to do is meet new people and working at Lehigh Country Club has given me that opportunity time and time again! I have met so many amazing members who I have had the pleasure of getting to know and become friends with, but my favorite part of coming to work everyday is being surrounded by such a supportive and amazing team. I owe all of my success and smiles to my co-workers who have done nothing but be patient with me, laugh with me, and support me (on and off the job)! I have genuinely cherished every friend and memory I have made here! I am a Sophomore at Rutgers University majoring in Dance and Communications. Besides working at the country club and being a student, I am also a Dance Instructor and Choreographer for local studios in my very little free time. My schedule is usually jam packed, but when I am not working I find time to play a round of golf or hit the gym with my fellow co-workers. This summer coming up, you can find me down by the pool, pool serving! Also, if you come and visit me at the snack bar on Mondays I will gladly make you a Kit-Kat milkshake with love! 28 Lehigh Express May 2021

Club News LEHIGH COUNTRY CLUB POLICIES Gratuity policies Questions often arise regarding tipping at Lehigh Country Club. To clarify the Club’s position, the following is offered as a guideline. Any questions should be addressed to the General Manager.
