"March 8th is International Women's Day when the special women in your life are celebrated! March 8th
is a national holiday in many countries. If you'd like to send a short "Love you Mom" or "Appreciate you
Auntie" to be included in the March community newsletter, email your brief message to
fdesk@kettlepoint.org. Let's be sure the women in our lives know how much we love and appreciate
them! How I wish my Mom were still here so I could tell her how much I love her, miss her, and appreci-
ate the many years she dedicated to my health and happiness. Let's celebrate these amazing women
while they're here or in memoriam for those who are rejoicing in Heaven. Just a suggestion for you
from Bev Bressette"

To my Mom in Heaven, Nettie Bressette, I love you so much and thank you for being a great Mother and loving friend. I can't wait
to see you at the Bema, Bev
To Pastor Belle Barber, thank you so much for joining our family and community, and dedicating yourself to celebrating, counsel-
ling, and comforting us through all of life's experiences. Most of all, I thank you for introducing me to Jesus Christ who brought me
into his forever family. Mom and Dad are with you in Heaven but I have a forever Father who is with me here all the time, thanks to
his Son. In love and gratitude, Beverly
To my sister Jennifer Parsons, thank you so much for being such a fine role model all of my life! You show me all the time how to
walk our talk and like St. Francis of Assisi said, "Preach at all times; when necessary use words." You have my highest respect and
admiration! Lots of Love, Bev
To my Aunt Marion, thank you so much Auntie for showing me how to enjoy life and for sharing your wise counsel and precious
memories of life in the community way back when. Family history comes alive when you tell me stories humorous and other-
wise. Thank you so much for being the amazing woman you are! I thank God for you and pray He will bless you with many more
years of health and happiness With love, Bev
To my Aunties in Heaven, Glenda, Murr, Gwen, and Betty! Thank you all for being fine examples to me. I appreciate all of the in-
teresting and fun memories at Grandpa Chuck's when you'd bring your families for visits. You taught me how to work, how to help,
how to laugh and enjoy life! Miigwech to all of you, Bev
To Deborah Wilde, my cousin and dear friend! Chi Miigwech Deb for teaching me about our culture and life in general. You are a
strong and wise women who can be a whole lot of fun! I appreciate your timely counsel in times when I really needed direction. I'm
also thankful to you for all of the happy memories of my visits with your wonderful family. As soon as COVID is gone, I'll be right
over there so we can make more memories. Lots of love, your cousin Beverly
To my Grandma Mildred Bressette in Heaven who gave me my Indian name, or Indigenous name, or Anishinaabe name! It's a treas-
ure, Gram, I'm amazed at the many facets of its meaning and still discovering more about it these many years later. I miss you and
look forward to seeing you again one day where there'll be no more goodbye's. Love you Gram, Bev
To my Grandma Eva Fallis in Heaven, I remember well your kind and gentle nature. We loved the Good-N-Plenty you always
brought from Detroit for us. I especially loved the raincoat you left behind after one visit; it was clear with huge colourful "flower-
child" flowers all over it. I spent many hours walking in the rain with my friend, enjoying the Spring awakening You were hu-
mility personified Gram; you showed me how a gracious woman conducted herself. I may have failed a lot of tests, but I'm still try-
ing with you in mind. I love you and I miss you Gram. Bev

"I see my Gram, she's kneeling down on the floor in our house, or at the alter in the church, or walking with her hands folded in pray-
er in the garden. She's laughing, sometimes crying, and talking to the Lord. Her face is pure joy and she's filled with the Holy Spir-
it. When I see her this way, my heart fills with happiness and comfort. She has been the greatest influence in my life. Her name is
Ethel George. Her granddaughter Marion."

International Day for the Elimination of
                           Racial Discrimination

                                                 21MARCH
The UN General Assembly resolution 2142 (XXI)(link is external), adopted on 26 October 1966, proclaimed
21 March as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination to be commemorated annually. On
that day, in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa,
against the apartheid "pass laws". Proclaiming the Day in 1966 which signifies the struggle to end the policy of
apartheid in South Africa, the General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to
eliminate all forms of racial discrimination.
Over the years, UNESCO has celebrated the International Day by organizing events in Headquarters and its field
offices, as well as in cooperation with the member cities of the International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable
Cities – ICCAR (formerly the International Coalition of Cities against Racism).
The struggle against racial discrimination is a central element of UNESCO's work to build peace in the minds of
men and women, through education for tolerance, the rejection of racist stereotypes that may persist in culture or
in the media.
MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL

"On this International Day, UNESCO calls on everyone to mobilize for equality and dignity and to adopt the apho-
rism of former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan: “Our mission (...) is to confront ignorance with
knowledge, bigotry with tolerance. (...) Racism can, will, and must be defeated.”"
— Audrey Azoulay Director-General, on the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Racial Dis-
crimination

Ontario Delays March Break in an Effort to
 Reduce Community Transmission of COVID-19
Decision was made on the advice of public health officials

TORONTO - Today, Stephen Lecce, Ontario's Minister of Education, issued the following statement regard-
ing March break:

"In support of our collective efforts to keep schools safe, we are postponing March break until April 12-16,
2021. This decision was made with the best advice of Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health and public
health officials, including consultations with many local Medical Officers of Health.

Many students have been learning remotely since the start of 2021. It is critical we follow public health
advice to protect schools and avoid a repeat of the concerning spike in youth-related cases over the win-
ter break, when students and staff were out of schools for a prolonged period of time. We are taking this
precaution based on advice from health experts, including the province's Science Table and the Chief
Medical Officer of Health, to help protect against the emerging COVID-19 variants of concern.

We appreciate the hard work of students and staff in the education sector and I want to be clear: March
break is being postponed, not cancelled. To keep schools open, we must keep them free of COVID-19. The
actions announced today serve to limit opportunities for congregation - while reaffirming the evidence
that schools are safe for students. By continuing to follow public health advice, and by introducing addi-
tional safety measures and more testing, we are supporting our collective efforts to keep COVID-19 from
   entering our schools.

With respect to travel, our government's position on this is unchanged. Ontarians should refrain from
travelling, particularly given the increase in new variants that pose a direct risk to our country. Please stay
at home as much as possible and continue following the direction of public health officials so that we can
keep schools open and protect our seniors, frontline health workers and all families.

These decisions - based on the advice of medical experts - are never easy, but they are necessary to keep
   Ontario families safe."

 Guidance discouraging students and staff from congregating before and after school; and
 Temporary certification of eligible teacher candidates who are set to graduate in 2021 to stabilize
       staffing levels.
These new measures build on the more than $1.6 billion that Ontario has provided in additional resources
to protect schools against the spread of COVID-19

ALL ABOUT HOW TO START VEGETABLE SEEDS INSIDE

WHY START FROM SEEDS?
When planning for a garden, a key thing to consider is whether you want to start your gar-
den from seeds or from young plants (“transplants”) bought from a local nursery.
Each option has its advantages and disadvantages. Buying transplants is certainly a lot easi-
er and more convenient, but you are also limited to only growing the types of vegetables
and flowers that you can find. Seeds, on the other hand, offer a wide range of varieties to
try. Here are the main things to think about:
 If you want to grow a lot of plants, buying packs of seeds is usually cheaper than buying
individual seedlings from the nursery.
 While some nursery plants are grown really nicely, others may be of poor quality. When
you plant your own seeds, you have control over the way the young plant is raised. This may
be especially important if you are an organic gardener.
 Finally, there isn’t always a great selection of plants at local nurseries. When you plant
from seed, you have a much wider choice of varieties, tastes, and textures—and you can ex-
periment with new ones, too!
For absolute beginners, it’s not a bad idea to start off with buying transplants, as you won’t
have to stress over things like the timing of starting seeds or the care of young seedlings.
That being said, there are many vegetables—such as carrots and radishes—that do
best when started from seed, so consider employing both methods to suit your needs.
