General Information What is the Camp-O-Ree? Each fall, the Scouts of Dan Beard Council assemble to celebrate the end of summer activities with a Camp-O-Ree. Each year the setting and activities change, but the goal remains the same: join with fellow Scouts to enhance Scouting skills and build ties to community. General Information Register at: https://mycouncil.danbeard.org/Event/9258 Adult Leadership Per BSA Youth Protection guidelines, a minimum of two registered adult leaders must be in attendance for each Unit; at least one leader must be age 21 or older and be available to the Scouts of your Unit at all times. Each Unit is responsible for their Scouts. 2021 Camp-O-Ree COVID Protocol Your safety and the safety of all our participants and volunteer staff is this event’s top priority. While many things are beginning to normalize, we continue to monitor the information provided by health experts and government agencies to help keep safe those who choose to attend this training. Our Council Health Supervisor is coordinating with state and local health departments to ensure we are informed of and comply with their guidance to mitigate the risks of COVID-19 while at this event [a Scout is Obedient] For 2021 Camp-O-Ree West, our safety measures include adherence to Dan Beard Council recommendations (found at: https://danbeard.org/healthy-and-safe- scouting-covid-19/). These measures include: 3
• Each Unit is expected to monitor the health of its’ own members and ensure that all attendees are healthy [Scout is Trustworthy]. • Our Program will be conducted outdoors. • All Staff and Participants will be asked to wear a facial covering (covering BOTH mouth and nose) during activity that places them in close contact with others for more than 15 minutes, even outdoors. • Units will bring and prepare their own food (no large meal gatherings). Each person is responsible for keeping themselves safe and communicating their personal safety needs to those around them at all times. If you feel unsafe, step away. Emergencies and serious first aid incidents must immediately be reported to the Camporee First Aid officer. BSA Medical Forms All Scouts and adult leaders are required to have health forms on site. Units must have them available at all times. 4
Vehicles All vehicles and trailers must be parked in the designated parking areas. The camping zone will be compact and there is little room for safely moving vehicles through the area. Fires Campfires are allowed in above ground fire pits only. Campers may NOT bring firewood from outside camp. Only wood that is already on the ground at camp is permitted for fires. There will be plenty of firewood on the ground near the camping areas. Food Each unit is responsible for making sure it provides enough food for all of its participants for the entire event. Patrol cooking at your campsite is encouraged for all Troops, Crews, etc. for this event. Water There are 2 Murdock style spigots available in the camping site. The various program areas will also have access to water. Volunteers Anyone interested in volunteering to help staff throughout the day is welcome to attend the Staff meeting Saturday morning. No special skills are required for the volunteers and all who wish to help will be welcome. Restrooms The bathroom building will be open for adults only during the event. Port-O-Let facilities will be available for the Scouts. 5

Camp-O-Ree Equipment In addition to the 10 Scouting essentials in their Day Packs, each Scout should bring any pre-work and Merit Badge pamphlets needed for the day’s activities. Camp-O-Ree Check-In Procedure • Troop Rosters (Adults and Scouts) Scoutmaster/SPL meeting (Saturday) Leaders should be prepared with the following for the SPL meeting: • Be on time • Camp maps (given at check-in) • Method of taking notes • List of skits/songs for campfire • List of Questions/Concerns Chaplain’s Aide Interfaith Service Instructional Meeting (Saturday) Leaders should be prepared with the following for the SPL meeting: • Be on time • Method of taking notes • List of Questions/Concerns Competition and Activities The weekend will be filled with FUN and competition. Scouts will compete as a Saturday night will conclude with a campfire. We will have time for some skits or songs. If you are interested, please submit your skit/song Saturday morning at the SM/SPL meeting to the campfire coordinator. Please fill out the survey at the end of this document after the Camp-O-Ree and hand it in when you checkout. This will allow us to plan better events in the future. Thank You. 7
Departure Units may depart from camp at any time after checking with the Camp Master or event staff. Unit leaders are responsible for tracking their youth the entire weekend. Each unit is responsible for maintaining their own camping area and following the principles of the Scout Oath and Law as well as Leave No Trace at all times. The camping area will be inspected prior to leaving by event staff. 8
