Age Group Coach of the Year Jacob Ranta I am so excited that Jacob is receiving Age Group Coach of the Year Award ! Jacob has a way with the age groupers that helps shape them into disciplined and mature swimmers who have strong fundamentals, pay attention to the details, and enjoy working hard. He may appear tough on the outside and can be a strict coach but it is evident during practice and meets how much he cares for his swimmers. He is just great at connecting with the kids regardless of the circumstances - whether it is consoling a kid who has just been DQ’ed or congratulating and providing feedback for a kid who has just had a best time at Champs. Finally, Jacob is great at motivating his swimmers. He finds a way to get to the root of why one may choose to swim and work hard and focuses their attention on the specifics of what needs to be done to achieve their goals. Thank you to fellow coaches for voting for Coach Jacob for COTY, he is very deserving, and congratulations Jacob ! Lisa Cremer BBA Coach

Forkapa Award Dave Brown The Forkapa Award is awarded to an outstanding individual who continues to give to Lake Erie Swimming after their own children have moved on from the sport. Official Dave Brown has been a valuable member of the Lake Erie Junior Olympic lead staff as Head Referee over the past several years, including the craziness of the meets during Covid. He has kept the deck well-organized and efficient, while also managing administrative questions prior to and during each meet, while adding feedback afterwards to make the meet better for next time, above and beyond his job description. He is always positive and friendly with everyone he is in contact with and always puts what is best for the swimmer at the forefront. Working with Dave is always a pleasure and he is so deserving of this recognition. -Erin Crabtree FAST Coach & LESI Meet Director
2022 Phillips 66 Outstanding Service Award Kristin MacPhail This years’ recipient has been a major contributor to the success of Lake Erie swimming and the athletes who we support. You will often find her on the pool deck where she has volunteered countless hours to ensure the success of our swim meets: athlete-check in, timer, runner, safety marshal, and any other job that just needs to get done. Over the past few years, she’s served as the meet director for dozens of swim meets, including many of our competitive prelim/final meets. Her volunteerism extends beyond competitions as she is currently serving Lake Erie Swimming as our elected Administrative Vice Chair. Congratulations Kristin MacPhail! Your dedication and tenacious commitment to the athletes of Lake Erie swimming is an inspiration to us all. Lori Baylor 2020 Outstanding Service Award winner

Age Group Swimmer of the Year Girls Livia Cremer Livia’s accomplishments over the course of this year speak for themselves. High Point at Braun and Lake Erie Junior Olympics, 1st place in the 200 IM at Midstates, 1st place in the 400 IM at the NCSA championship, while also making the podium in every event she swam. On top of all that, she achieved Sectional cuts in the 200 Breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM. These accomplishments are not by accident. Liv has earned them through consistent hard work and dedication to swimming. However, all of that is not at all the most impressive aspect of Liv. Her humility and coachability are what truly makes her such a great swimmer and teammate. The hard work she puts in everyday while never cutting corners is the rock solid foundation of what makes her such a great swimmer. Her humility is what makes her such a great teammate. You would never know she is one of the best swimmers on our club, in Lake Erie, in the State of Ohio, or even beyond. There is a quiet confidence about her and a desire to do her best at all times. She handles winning and losing with a grace beyond her years, while always being a gracious competitor and a model teammate. Congratulations Liv. It has been a pleasure for me, as a coach, to be part of the beginning of your swimming career. I look forward to seeing just how far your talents and dedication will take you. Keep doing all the little things correctly, and the hard work outside of the pool that no one else sees, and you will go wherever you want to in this sport. Jacob Ranta BBA Coach

Senior Swimmer of the Year Girls Jessica Eden The Senior female swimmer of the year is known to her teammates as “the ultimate warrior” because of the hard work and dedication that she puts into each practice, each set, every day. The results of her hard work and unwavering focus on consistent improvement are evidenced by her outstanding accomplishments. This year, Jessica Eden had 4 top 8 finishes at USA sectionals and competed at Jr. Nationals in Greensboro. Jess is an amazing leader, competitor, and teammate. She consistently motivates and supports those around her. She will be greatly missed as she moves on to swim at Ohio State University this fall. Congratulations, Jessica! Adam Katz LESD Head Coach
Senior Swimmer of the Year Boys Jonny Marshall FAST is proud to have Jonny Marshall awarded the Senior Male Swimmer of the Year. Jonny had a VERY busy season. In the fall, Jonny made his verbal commitment to continue his swimming at the collegiate level to Florida. During December, he had lifetime best performances at Winter Juniors and a few weeks later came down with COVID. Winter break was a struggle but he was able to bounce back quickly and prepare for high school championship season. Jonny had two amazing performances at the state meet with a lifetime best in his second place finish in the 200 Free and had a VERY close finish in the 100 Back to come out with a win. Jonny has dual citizenship with Great Britain. He swam British Championships in the beginning of April and qualified for the British Jr National Team. Jonny will be competing in Budapest in the beginning of July. We look forward to another year of racing from Jonny! Cindy Dial- Head Coach FAST

Para-swimmer of the Year- Girls Julia Hixson At Great Waves we have always focused on Julia's abilities, personality, and positives as opposed to any disabilities. As Para Swimmer of the year, Julia is very deserving of the award. She is very upbeat and positive. Very supportive of her teammates and is very willing to teach her anyone who will listen about para swimming. Her accomplishments include: • 2020 District Champ (first year OHSAA included Para Swimming Events) 50 free, 100 back • 2021 State Champs: 1st 100 back, 2nd 50 free • 2022 State Champs: 1st 100 back and 50 free • WRC Conference 8th 100 back • 3 Time News Herald Para Swimmer of the Year • 2021 Para Nationals: 2nd in 3 events Matt Parrish GWA Head Coach
Para Swimmer of the Year- Boys Lucas Culotta Lucas Culotta has a great understanding of how much hard work is needed for him to reach his goals in swimming and does not shy away from the effort required of him. He trains and competes with able-bodied peers, which means that there is some need for modifications. Lucas is patient as he and his coaches work together to adapt the training for his specific abilities. He works hard and is cognizant of what his body can do on any given day – he communicates this well with his coaches, enabling his training to be adjusted when necessary. In the last year he has earned Can- Am qualifying times and qualified for paralympic nationals. It is clear that Lucas is going to continue to do great things in the future. His drive to succeed, along with his passion for swimming, will help him go far in the sport. Kara Dennis- LESD Coach
Athlete’s Award Megan Maholic This year’s recipient both Madi and I believe is beyond qualified for this award and has embody the values and qualities of a Lake Erie athlete both in and out of the pool. Being able to work alongside her for the last 2 years I have personally been able to see her commitment and dedication to the Lake Erie LSC as a member of the Board of Directors athlete representatives. She has successfully managed and transformed the Lake Erie online and social media presence to one of the most successful athlete pages in the country throughout her term. She has also been an instrumental part to the upkeep and development of the Lake Erie Swimming athletes website. She has strived to recognize the accomplishments of countless athletes in Lake Erie through maintaining the weekly athlete features. Beyond Lake Erie this year's recipient has served as her high school’s class president for the last 3 years, showcasing just another element of the recipients leadership and impact on the community she surrounds herself with. In and out of the classroom, this year’s recipient excels with flying colors. Holding one of the highest GPAs of her class and continuing to explore her interests she will attend the University of South Carolina this fall to pursue her academic and athletic talents. In the pool, she currently is a USA Swimming Summer National Qualifier in the 100 Back and is one of the most noteworthy backstrokers in the Lake Erie LSC. Her coach Gregg Sorbek says she is great to coach and truly inspiring to be around. She is constantly striving to become better which tends to lift her teammates to do the same. She is the kind of swimmer that comes around every long once and awhile and they cherish having her on their team.
