English and mathematics We can help you make a life changing decision to gain new skills, confidence and qualifications, by offering our tuition and guidance in gaining English and mathematics qualifications. We provide a range of very popular English and mathematics courses to help you revisit these subjects in our friendly classes. If you choose to study in other areas of the curriculum, we also offer specialist support in English and mathematics. At enrolment you will be asked to complete an initial assessment so that you can see your level of English and mathematics. If your English level is lower than the requirements of your course you will be offered out of class support in a small group with a specialist tutor. Advanced Learner Loan key facts: • Repayments are linked to what you earn and not how much you borrowed • You only have to start making repayments when you’ve finished your course and if you’re earning over £25,000 a year (which is £480 a week or £2,083 a month). Until then you don’t need to pay back anything but you can make voluntary repayments at any time • You pay 9% of the money you earn over £25,000 before tax. For example, if you earn £27,000 a year, your monthly repayment will be £15 a month; and if you earn £33,000 a year, it will be £60 per month • Interest is charged on a sliding scale between the Retail Price Index (RPI) and RPI +3%, depending on how much you earn • If your Advanced Learner Loan is for an Access to Higher Education course and you go on to complete a degree, the Advanced Learner Loan gets written off. What level can you study? Most qualifications have a difficulty level. The higher the level, the more difficult the qualification is. Qualifications at the same level sometimes cover different amounts of the same subject. For example AS levels and A levels are both level 3, but you study AS levels over 1 year and A levels over 2 years. So you learn more about the subject at A level.
