our remote lifestyle never comes at the cost of
world class cultural experiences. ARTSGlenelg will
bring dozens of touring artists to the Portland Arts
Centre and to smaller venues around the shire in
2020.

We are pleased to offer simple ticket categories
and affordable prices to encourage you to share
the thrill of live performances with friends and
loved ones. Amazing experiences make for
amazing gifts!

Our popular PYJAMA SHOWS will continue for
families - a 6.30pm start means - dinner - show -
bed - all before 8pm! A perfect way to ignite those
growing imaginations, and for generations to share
in something magical.

For the first time, we are presenting the program
by genre, so you can quickly browse through the
kinds of events you enjoy the most. You’ll also find
a handy calendar fixture in the centre to see what’s
on when at a glance. So get your 2020 calendars

     A UNIQUE PARENT & CHILD
      CREATIVE PHOTO STUDIO
           EXPERIENCE
With our growing appetite to document our lives
through photos and selfies, children are so often
the reluctant subjects of parent’s cameras; asked
to smile, look natural, look that way, and come in
     closer.

I SEE YOU LIKE THIS is your chance to be a part
of a unique art project, turning the camera back
and allowing children to see their parents as sub-
jects through the lens of their own imaginations.

The experience begins with questions to the child
about what kind of person their parent is. They
then choose a key object, before directing a creative
portrait directly onto their 'subject's' face. The pair
then enter the studio to direct the photoshoot.
After an exhibition at the Portland Arts Centre (with
participants agreement) each pair receives a copy of
their portrait to take home and treasure.

THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS EXHIBITION IS DRAWN FROM
PORTLAND’S HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE FOCUSING ON PUBLIC AND
      RESIDENTIAL, PAST AND PRESENT.
‘Our Town’ prompts an appreciation not only for
the architecture but also for those who work to
preserve and maintain it. As well as appreciation
this body of work takes time to reflect on
structures long gone and contemplate the
      impact of their loss.
These whimsical and sometimes naïve images
pay homage to our architectural past and to
those who are invested in its preservation.

HERALDING THE NAVY
NAVAL HERALDRY IS A FORM OF IDENTIFICATION USED BY NAVAL VESSELS
FROM THE END OF THE 19TH CENTURY AND TAKES THE FORM OF A BADGE,
CREST, OR COAT OF ARMS.
In Commonwealth navies it takes the form of a large
plaque, mounted on the superstructure of the ship.
The ship’s crest plaques in this display were presented
to Council by visiting vessels to Portland in the second
half of the 20th century.

    A QUEEN & A PRINCESS
PRINCESS ELIZABETH WAS SCHEDULED TO VISIT PORTLAND IN 1952, BUT THE
DEATH OF HER FATHER KING GEORGE VI FORCED A CANCELLATION OF THE TOUR.
On 7 April, 1970 the Queen finally visited Portland. She
was in town for just 80 minutes. This display looks at the
Queen’s visit to Portland and the visit by Prince Charles and
the Princess of Wales 16 years later when they were special
guests for the proclamation of the City of Portland.
