Chairman’s Message - Gavin Pearson For 25 years the Canadian Warmblood Alberta Chapter has hosted the Fall Classic Breeders Sale. Over those years the Fall Sale became known to buyers across North America as an auction to attend to see what quality warmblood riding horses, mares, young stock and embryos would be presented for auction. This year marks The Fall Sales 26th year running and will be run as a fully online auction. An extraordinary effort is needed to ensure these sales are well presented and showcase the horses in the best light. Jennette Coote, of MJ farms has over the years chaired the sale and spearheaded its success. Taking on the Chair this year was a great honour and I knew I couldn’t continue without the great team which is the Fall Classic Sale Committee. I want to express my gratitude and appreciation to the Sale Committee members, Coreen Jamieson, Rebecca Beechinor, Lorrie Jamieson, Doreen Kulcsar, Shauna Cook and Chris Gould. I especially want to thank my Co-Chair, Katrina van den Bosch, the Sale Administrator, Barb Easthom, who took on the huge responsibility of that role and ensured the smooth running of the operations. Lastly thank you to Jennette Coote, who even after stepping down from chair still is a huge asset to the Sale Team. The sale committee have planned to make this first Online Fall Classic Sale Auction as successful as the Fall Classic Sale has been and deciding to move it online this year couldn’t have been possible without ClipMyHorse Auctions. Much success thus far has come from the volunteers and support from CWHBA members and breeders, and special recognition to Klondike Victory Farm, Old Gate Farm, and Valleyfield Farm for their support. Also the Sale is once again appreciative of the support it receives from Elite Three, a high performance hemp based feed supplement company, as the Sales title sponsor. Horses presented have all been professionally videoed and photographed by Gearhead media and Lorrie Jaimeson at Old Gate Farm or Valleyfield Farm. This year’s collection represents some of the best international pedigrees, such as Quick Star, DallasVDL, Chacoon Blue, Baloubet du Rouet, Cardento VDL, Concorde, Darco, Donnerhall, Ferro, Weltmeyer. I am delighted with this years achievement and presentation and hope you will enjoy Fall Classic Sales 26th year and its first year Online! 2020 CWHBA Fall Classic Sale Chair Gavin Pearson ~8~

“Mother’s Love” Lot 0 Mother’s Love” 17” x 17” Original Print Proceeds will go to the Mara Coote-Freeman Scholarship fund for Exercise Riders at Olds College. This was the last program that Mara developed and she was very proud of the accomplishments of the students. by Mara Coote-Freeman Mara Coote-Freeman was a founding member of CWHBA, an esteemed senior judge, our pioneer into the digital world as our first web master, a past national and chapter director and for many years manager of the CWHBA booth at Spruce Meadows Mara’s love for the horse took her far beyond that and her volunteerism within the horse industry was legendary. For six years Vice President on the Canadian Equestrian Federation Board responsible for Breeds and Industry, founding member of the Canadian Horse Council, initiator of the Horse Industry Association of Alberta, regional representative and Board member of International Arabian Horse Association Half and Anglo Arabian Registry and more. Professionally she used her teaching degree to great advantage. Prior to her retirement in 2015 she managed the Continuing Education program for Animal Science at Olds College and their Race Track program in cooperation with Horse Racing Alberta, which led to her current appointment to that Board. All this, while part of the dynamic duo that has operated MJ Farms since 1977. This impressive list in no way answers the question why she was so sought after and ultimately why she was so loved, it only points to a person that was thoroughly engaged in her community. Perhaps the accolades and remembrances pouring in give us some insight. Here are a few: “Mara was such a caring person who always made me feel welcome. I will miss her greatly.” “You always remembered me, my name, my horses and you always had nothing but the ~ 16 ~
“Mother’s Love” Lot 0 most positive things to say and were always encouraging me along in my journey…Your infectious laugh and your kindness will never be forgotten” “When starting out on our warmblood journey 25 years ago Mara and Jennette took the time to encourage and educate us about the “warmblood”. Mara always had time for a chat and loved talking to us about everything …Whenever you spoke with Mara you genuinely felt valued. She always listened and provided words of inspiration or wisdom.” “Your always original and informed perspectives on so many things always inspired me to learn more and be better. When I told you last week that your ability to be a diplomat while also speaking your mind was a unique gift, I meant that and more …” “Mara was such a passionate and strong woman. She was a kind teacher but was firm and expected the best from everyone. “ “Mara was so vibrant and full of life. She loved to travel, loved horses, loved her students, and was a devoted friend…The horse community has lost a great advocate and mentor. Her knowledge of so many areas of the industry will go on with her students and the likes of those who worked with her like myself”. The rest of the answer may be understood by looking at her multifaceted life trajectory. Mara had two great passions and a myriad of interests, which she pursued with energy. She was a traveller at a very young age. Born in Edmonton while her father was working in Columbia, she had to wait a year until old enough to get the appropriate vaccines before she and her mother could board a ship for the long journey. It was the first of many trips. Trips that took her, alone at first and later with Barry, to Europe, South East Asia, China, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and many more. She didn’t always take the easy route. After teaching for a year in Australia, she made her way home the long way, by bus from Singapore, through India, Pakistan, the middle east and on to Europe. Her second passion began at pony club and never stopped. He father Bud, was an enthusiastic standardbred breeder so MJ Farms combined their early Arabian and Anglo Arabian breeding program with breeding and training trotters. This transitioned to Trakehners and finally Warmbloods, but Warmbloods which carried the refinement and quality of an Anglo foundation. In light of all this, it is clear that her diverse life experiences and broad industry knowledge equipped her for making an impact, but it was the power of her personality, her gift for really listening, her creative mind and her genuine enthusiasm for making things happen, coupled with her undeniable love for people that made her such a special person. Regardless of what sphere of Mara’s life you were a part of, you felt her impact. Knowing more about Mara simply increases the wonder at how much she contributed, not just to the Canadian Warmblood or to the horse industry at large, but most importantly to the individuals lucky enough to be her friend, her student or her colleague. Let us hold her memory tight. Let us honour her legacy. Let us carry her spirit forward. ~ 17 ~

Atlas, is no less impressive, in both his presence and his quality. In September 2016, Atlas was the high scoring stallion at the CWHBA stallion inspection, earning himself a license with them. He has since matured in to an exceptional horse that shows both tremendous suspension in movement and amazing scope and technique. So far his foals have been little copies of their sire. Dam: LOLLIPOP "Lolli" is one of our home bred mares by the stallion Leeto Z. Beautiful, correct conformation, powerful and elegant movement, combined with incredible scope make him an all-around exceptional athlete. Although, perhaps his best feature, is his intelligent and engaging personality that not only makes him a brave and willing partner, but also a quick learner and simple straight forward ride. Lolli has all of these positive attributes of her sire. She is young and only now starting her sport career, but has both the movement and the jump to be a high end hunter. Notes: ABIRA is a beautiful filly, with long legs and confident presence. She is smart, willing and engaged. As a yearling, we haven’t done much in the way of work. We believe in letting them mature physically before they start any real training, however she leads well, stands for farrier, tolerates being braided and in general is an easy horse to work around. Her jump is correct and brave. Her movement is powerful but balanced. She will make an excellent prospect for any or all rings.
