9 10 JAZZ IN HORNBY HORNBY INSTITUTE ROOF APPEAL Our first gig is on Saturday 15th February at Hornby Village Institute when we welcome the return of the Tim Kliphuis Trio. "Ace gypsy violinist Tim Kliphuis is joined by Nigel Clark (guitar) and Roy Percy (double base) for an evening of jazzy string playing". Tim is internationally revered by all fiddle players for his astonishing technique and additionally by jazz aficionados for his skill in improvisation. This truly is an opportunity not to be missed! HORNBY CAROL SINGING Wonderful news - Hornby Villagers raised the amazing sum of £1115 for the Christmas Night Shelter for the Lancaster Homeless this year!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! The Shelter’s organisers were so grateful as it made all the difference in their ability to provide breakfast, lunch, tea & beds for 5 whole days over the Christmas period. Homelessness nationally has risen by 9% between 2018 and 2019, & the LDHAS has been helping a gradually rising number of clients. They are really grateful for our contribution to finance this short period of respite from cold, wet & winds. At this time of worldwide political, economic & climatic turmoil we may feel helpless, but we have proved that we can still do our part in our own little part of the world.
21 22 HAFFNER ORCHESTRA CONCERT Sunday 1st March: Concert Some members of the Haffner Orchestra will perform a variety of music in Hornby Institute at 3.00pm - 4.30pm. We had an entertaining meeting on the 8th January with a "Murder Mystery” with Constance Evans. On Wednesday 12th February. we are having a talk by the Forest of Bowland Moorland Group, which I am sure will be very interesting. The WI provides women with fun and friendship, plus the chance to learn new skills, get involved with the Community and take part in a wide range of activities. We have many trips planned for this year. On Saturday 14th March, we will be having our Wine & Cheese Evening at Wray Institute at 7.30 pm. Put the date in your diary.
