4 GENERAL INFORMATION JUDGES Exhibitors are not permitted to act as judges in a class in which he or she exhibits or is directly or indirectly interested. Judges must not award prizes to an unworthy exhibit. In the absence of competition, or where only one exhibit is entered, 1st, 2nd, 3rd or no premiums will be awarded according to the merit of the exhibit. Judges will make special mention of meritorious exhibits for which no premium is offered. Interference with judges will not be permitted. Interfering exhibitors will be barred from competition. All award books or sheets must be properly signed by the judges and returned to the head of the department immediately after the completion of awards. In paying premiums, no evidence of awards will be recognized except the entry book and sheets, signed by superintendents and judges. Ribbons, cards and labels that may be attached to exhibits will not be recognized. The decision of the judges will be final in all cases except where error, fraud, misrepresentation or collusion, not discovered at the time of the award, is proven. In such cases, the decision of the Management will be final. Entry Policy For exhibits in Horticultural Hall use Gate 2 (Madison Ave. at Richland Ave.) only! There is no entry fee. Exhibitors, upon delivery of their article or articles to the proper department, will be given an exhibitors ticket which will bear the identifying numbers of the exhibit. This entitles Exhibitors to purchase one (1) Exhibitor Admission Ticket ($8.00 value) for $4.00 for each item entered. These Special Tickets are available in the Exhibition Hall when entering your items. THEY WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE ON ANY OTHER DATES. ONLY ONE TICKET PER ITEM ENTERED. This Coupon Void if reproduced or tampered with in any way. Exhibits which have been erroneously entered may, at the discretion of the Director in Charge and Superintendent of the Department, be transferred to the proper class previous to the judging. If such classes have been judged they shall not be re-judged. Premiums shall be paid only on awards indicated by Judges’ records. Names shall be covered on exhibits until judging is completed. In the absence of competition in any class, the right is reserved to award premiums which the exhibit merits.
5 Dept. 40 – Division 1 – Class 01 Entry hours Wednesday 1-9 pm and Thursday 9 am – 12 noon ANGEL FOOD CAKE CONTEST CONTEST DATE Thursday, September 5, 2019 PRIZES: 1st = $100.00 2nd = $75.00 3rd = $50.00 All contestants must preregistered by September 1, Recipe will be submitted with your product 1. Open to any individual who is a Pennsylvania resident. 2. Entrants may NOT have won 1st place in this Angel Food Cake contest at any other fair in 2019. 3. Entry must be an Angel Food Cake made from “scratch”. 4. Pennsylvania produced & packed eggs are requested to be used if at all possible. Please look for the PEQAP or PA Preferred logo or PA packaging dates on the carton. 5. Refrigeration is NOT available at the Fair or PA Farm Show. Entries that require refrigeration after baking must indicate so in the recipe. Those entries will not be sold, auctioned or otherwise distributed for consumption after judging for food safety reasons. 6. The entire Cake entry must be submitted for judging on cardboard. (All pans, plates and dishes are considered to be disposable and will not be returned.) 7. Recipe(s) listing the ingredients and the preparation instructions must be submitted with the entry (printed on one-side of 8-1/2" x 11" size paper). Entrant’s name, address and phone # must be printed on the back of all the pages. (All recipes and cakes will become the property of the Fair or PA Farm Show and will not be returned.) 8. The 2017 & 2018 first place winners are not eligible to compete in the 2019 contest. 9. Judging will be based on the following criteria: Flavor (smell, taste, flavoring) 30 points Inside Characteristics (texture & lightness) 25 points Overall Appearance (surface, size, color) 20 points Creativity 15 points Topping, Icing or Decoration 10 points First Place Winner is eligible for the 2020 PA Farm Show competition. 6 Dept. 40 – Division 1 – Class 02 Entry hours Wednesday 1-9 pm and Thursday 9 am – 12 noon Co-Sponsors of PA State Association of County Fairs 2019 HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE CAKE CONTEST CONTEST DATE: Thursday, September 5, 2019 PRIZES First Place - $150.00 Second Place - $75.00 Third Place - $50.00 All contestants must pre-registered by September 1, Recipe will be submitted with your product CONTEST RULES 1. Participant must be an individual amateur baker who is a Pennsylvania resident. One entry per person. 2. Entrants may NOT have won 1st place in this Homemade Chocolate Cake contest at any other fair in 2019. 3. Entry must be a layered chocolate cake made from "scratch". Pre-made mixes are not acceptable ingredients. 4. Entry must be frosted, and frosting must be made from “scratch”. 5. Cake recipe must feature chocolate or cocoa as a main ingredient. 6. The entire cake entry must be submitted for judging on cardboard or other food safe disposable setting. (All pans, plates and dishes are considered to be disposable and will not be returned.) 7. Recipes must be submitted with the entry, printed on one side of 8-1/2” x 11” paper. Recipe must list all ingredients, quantities, and the preparation instructions. Entrant’s name, address and phone number must be printed on the back side of all the pages. 7 Dept. 40 – Division 1 – Class 03 Entry hours Wednesday 1-9 pm and Thursday 9 am – 12 noon Cupcake Showdown CONTEST DATE: Thursday, September 5, 2019: All contestants must preregistered by September 1, Recipe will be submitted with your product Sponsored by King Arthur Flour Cupcakes will be judged on taste and decorations as they relate to the theme. Prizes 1st Place: $75 Gift Card to the Baker’s Catalogue/www.KingArthurFlour.com 2nd Place: $50 Gift Card to the Baker’s Catalogue/www.KingArthurFlour.com 3rd Place: King Arthur Flour Whole Grain Baking Cookbook • Bake your cupcake using King Arthur Flour; limit one entry per person. • Six (6) cupcakes must be displayed on a disposable plate and on a paper doily. • Use no mixes for the batter. Any frostings or toppings are allowed and decorations must be eatable. • With your pre-baked entry, provide a matching clear/typed recipe (illegible recipes may be disqualified) with specific recipe ingredients and amounts, followed by clear directions. Along with recipe and entry, contestants should submit their contact information and a King Arthur Flour package, product label, UPC code or purchase receipt. • All recipes entered become the property of King Arthur Flour Co. By participating, contestants agree that King Arthur Flour may edit, adapt, copyright, publish and use any or all of the recipes entered. They may also use contestant names and photos for publicity, promotion, or advertising without compensation. • The 2017 & 2018 first place winners are not eligible to compete in the 2019 contest.
8 Dept. 40 – Division 1 – Class 04 Entry hours Wednesday 1-9 pm and Thursday 9 am – 12 noon 2019 PA Preferred™ Junior Baking Contest Cookies, Brownies and Bars CONTEST DATE: Thursday, September 5, 2019 Prizes First Place - $50.00 Gift Certificate plus a $20.00 Cash Prize Second Place - $25.00 Gift Certificate plus a $15.00 Cash Prize Third Place - $15.00 Gift Certificate plus a $10.00 Cash Prize 1st 2nd 3rd Cookies $10 $7 $5 Brownies $10 $7 $5 Bars $10 $7 $5 First place winner in each category will compete for overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd All contestants must preregistered by September 1, Recipe will be submitted with your product Contest Rules The goal of the PA Preferred™ Baking Contest is to encourage young people across the Commonwealth to participate in Pennsylvania’s agricultural fairs by showcasing Pennsylvania grown and produced products in their contest entries. RULES: 1. Participant must be an individual amateur baker (ages 8 through 18) who is a Pennsylvania resident. One entry per person. 2. Entrants may NOT have won 1st place in this PA Preferred™ Junior Baking contest at any other fair in 2019. 3. Entry must be a plate of six (6) individual sized portions of the baked entry item. 4. Entries must be made from scratch. Premade mixes are not acceptable ingredients. 5. At least two (2) PA Preferred™ ingredients must be used in the recipe. Some examples of qualifying ingredients are PA Preferred™ grains such as oats or flour, butter, milk, eggs, fruits and/or vegetables. 6. Entry must be submitted for judging on a food safe disposable setting. (All pans, plates and dishes are considered to be disposable and will not be returned.) 7. Recipe(s) must be submitted with the entry, printed on one side of 8-1/2” x 11” paper. Recipe must list all ingredients, quantities, and the preparation instructions. The PA Preferred™ ingredients must be listed clearly in the ingredient list, specifying the ingredients and the company that made/grew them (ex: PA Preferred Milk – Galliker’s brand). Entrant’s name, age, address and phone number must be printed on the back side of all the pages. (All recipes and cookies-brownies-bars will become the property of the Fair or PA Farm Show and will not be returned.) 8. A PA Preferred™ logo is not required because not all PA Preferred™ products carry the label. The name of the ingredient and the source is sufficient. For a list of acceptable products visit papreferred.com. Additionally, PA Preferred™ staff will assist in locating PA Preferred™ ingredients, as needed.

10 Dept. 40 – Division 1 – Class 05 Entry hours Wednesday 1-9 pm and Thursday 9 am – 12 noon The York Fair And PROUDLY SPONSOR “32 nd Annual BLUE RIBBON APPLE PIE CONTEST” All contestants must preregistered by September 1, Recipe will be submitted with your product CONTEST DATE: Thursday, September 5th, 2019 Bake your favorite apple pie and enter it in the 32nd Annual “Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest” for cash prizes and an opportunity to participate in the Pennsylvania Farm Show, held at the Farm Show Complex in January 2020. The First Place winner will be invited to exhibit in the Apple Pie Contest at the Farm Show for additional cash prizes. Creativity is essential to a varied competition. Do not limit your contest to a “traditional” two- crusted apple pie. Prizes for the Brown’s Orchards & Farm Market Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest are as follows: First Place: $ 200.00 Fourth Place: $ 75.00 Second Place: $ 150.00 Fifth Place: $ 50.00 Third Place: $ 100.00 Sixth Place: $ 25.00 CONTEST RULES: 1. Open to any individual who is a Pennsylvania resident; only one entry per person. 2. Entrants may NOT have won 1st place in this Blue Ribbon Apple Pie contest at any other fair in 2018. 3. Entry to be a pie that must include at least 60% apples in the filling. It does not need to be a “traditional” two crusted apple pie and it can have a variety of fillings. 4. The entire pie must be submitted for judging in a disposable pie pan. (All pans, plates and dishes are considered to be disposable and will not be returned.) 5. The recipe for the pie and pie crust must be submitted with the entry. It should be submitted on one side of 8 ½” by 11” paper. The recipe must list all the ingredients, quantities and the preparation instructions. Entrant’s name, address and phone number must be printed on the back side of all the pages. (All recipes and pies will become the property of the Fair or PA Farm Show and will not be returned.) 6. Refrigeration is not available at the Fair or PA Farm Show. Entries that require refrigeration after baking must indicate so in the recipe. 12 Dept. 40 – Division 1 – Class 06 York Fair’s Youth Chocolate Chip Cookie Contest Ages 6-17 1. Participant must be an individual amateur baker (ages 6 through 17) who is a Pennsylvania resident. 2. One entry per person. 3. Entry must be a plate of six (6) individual sized portions of the chocolate chip cookie entry. 4. Entries must be made from scratch. Premade mixes are not acceptable ingredients. 5. Entry must be submitted for judging on a food safe disposable setting. (All pans, plates and dishes are considered to be disposable and will not be returned.) Hint: For better presentation slide plate of baked goods into zip lock bag instead of covering with plastic wrap. 6. Recipe(s) must be submitted with the entry, printed on one side of 8-1/2” x 11” paper. Recipe must list all ingredients, quantities, and the preparation instructions. Entrant’s name, age, addresses and phone number must be printed on the back side of all the pages.
