Hood Race Team & Academy. The following pages include useful information about the race weekend and events. Snow conditions on Mt. Daily Schedule (NOTE: SCHEDULE HAS CHANGED FROM RACE ANNOUNCEMENT DUE TO SNOW CONDITIONS) Friday March 8 Event: Slalom Venue: Challenger Schedule: Lifts open to competitors: 9:00 am Run 1 Inspection: 9:00-9:45 (girls skiers right, boys skiers left) Run 1: 10:00 Run 2 Inspection: 12:15 – 1:00 Run 2: 1:15 (girls skiers right, boys skiers left) Saturday March 9 Event: Super G Timed Training Run Venue: Reynolds Run Schedule: Lifts open to competitors: 9:00am Inspection: 9:15 – 10:15 Timed Training Run: 10:30 Event: Super G Race Venue: Reynolds Run Schedule: Race Start: 1:15 Sunday March 10 Event: Giant Slalom Venue: Reynolds Run Schedule: Lifts open to competitors: 9:00am Run 1 Inspection: 9:15-10:15 Run 1: 10:30 Run 2 Inspection: 1:00 – 1:45 Run 2: 2:00 Race Seeding This race is the annual PNSA Buddy Werner Championship for U14 age class. This race is also being used by PNSA as one of three qualifier races for PNSA U14 athletes to attend the U14 Western Region Championships in Big Sky, Montana. This race will consist of one timed Super G training run, one Super G race run, one Giant Slalom race and one Slalom race. Consistent with the Buddy Werner Championship rules, athletes are first run seeded by their team for this race. Coaches for each team have submitted their athlete seeding list to Race Administration. Start lists are generated by seed, with all 1st seeds starting first, followed by all 2nd seeds, 3rd seeds, 3
etc., until all athletes are seeded. Second run order (two run races) will be reverse order of top 30, followed by remaining athletes in first run place order. Race Headquarters Race headquarters will be upstairs in the Multorpor Lodge in the Ski Bowl East side of the resort. Athletes will pick up bibs each morning at race registration desk and return bibs after each race in finish corral. Location of the Multorpor Lodge is shown in map below. Multorpor Lodge Social Events Social events for athletes and parents have been arranged on Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Athletes: All PNSA athletes are invited to the Ski Bowl Tube Park for complimentary tubing in a reserved portion of the park. Parents: All PNSA parents are invited to a private social hosted by Mt. Hood Race Team & Academy upstairs in the Mutlorpor Lodge next to the 70 meter bar. No-host bar with appetizers provided. 4
Athlete Gifts All registered athletes will be provided a commemorative Buddy Werner Championship race T shirt and neckie. These gifts can be picked up at race registration desk. Venues SL Venue: Challenger Run SG & GS Venue: Reynolds Run Slalom Venue: The Slalom venue is the Challenger run accessed by the Cascade (Green) chair on the Ski Bowl East side of the resort. SG & GS Venue: The Super Giant Slalom and Giant Slalom venue is the Reynolds run on the Ski Bowl West side of the resort. Athletes and spectators on skis can access the top of Reynolds run by taking the Multorpor (Red) chair from the Ski Bowl East side and following a cat track to the base of the Upper Bowl (black) chair. After offloading the Upper Bowl chair, stay left and follow the trail to the top of Reynolds Run. Athletes, spectators and race volunteers should be aware that from the bottom of Reynolds run it requires two chair lift rides, on Lower Bowl (blue) and Upper Bowl (black), to reach the top of Reynolds run. Turn around time is approximately 20 minutes and should be planned. 5
Non-skiing spectators who park in the Ski Bowl East lot can reach the bottom of Reynolds run by walking the Lake Trail Trail (approx.. 1.5km) to base area of Ski Bowl West, taking a resort shuttle or driving to the Ski Bowl West lot. Three-day tickets will be available for purchase. Awards Awards will occur daily, 30 minutes after race conclusion, outside the MHRTA team building in the Ski Bowl East base area. Awards will be given to top 3 finishers of each gender. On Sunday, 1st place awards will be provided to overall boy, overall girl, overall boys team, overall girls team and overall team. 6
Other Important Information A reminder to all athletes, race volunteers, spectators and coaches that the Super G race is a speed event occurring in a controlled venue. Only race officials and race volunteers are allowed within the venue during the race, with all dispatch controlled by race officials. No carrying jackets, skis, or other gear is allowed in the venue. For the safety of everyone involved, these rules will be strictly enforced. All spectators must remain outside of the race venue with good viewing spots available at high road crossing, low road crossing, skier’s left of lower Reynolds and the finish arena. Coaches Information Team Captains Meetings: The first Team Captains meeting will occur at 7pm Thursday at the Mt. Hood Academy Haus, 88153 Government Camp Loop, Government Camp, OR 97028. Team Captains meetings will occur immediately following awards on Friday and Saturday upstairs in the MHRTA team building at Ski Bowl East. REVISED RACE ANNOUNCEMENT 2019 Buddy Werner Championships U14 Qualifier #3 U14 Finals Mt. Hood Ski Bowl Ski Area Mt. Hood, Oregon Event Schedule: 3/8, Friday: M/W SL on Challenger 3/9, Saturday: M/W SG on Reynolds Run (Training and Race Runs) 3/10, Sunday: M/W GS on Reynolds Run Eligibility: All 2018-19 USSA licensed U-14 PNSA competitors. Event Registration: Entry fees $55.00/per event (includes souvenir T shirt) Individuals must register and pay on-line via USSA website https://my.ussa.org/myussa . Individual phone, email and mail entries will not be accepted. Releases: Registered athletes must return hard copy of Mt. Hood Ski Bowl and MHSEF releases attached. No release – No bib! Entry Deadline: On-line registration will close Mar 5th @11:59 pm. No Late Registrations will be accepted. Lift Tickets: $35.00 per day racer ticket will be available at Ski Bowl East (Multorpor) Ticket Office. Race Headquarters: Multorpor Lodge 2nd Floor. Race HQ will be open each morning at 7:30am in the Multorpor Lodge. TC Meeting: Thursday March 7, 7:00pm at Mt. Hood Race Team & Academy Haus, 88153 Government Camp Loop, Government Camp, OR 97028. Racers must be represented to be placed on the start list for Friday’s race. Other TC meetings TBD. Racer Bibs: Bibs will be issued each morning at Race HQ. Hard copies of each release form must accompany every athlete at check in to receive bib. No Release - No Bib. $50.00 will be charged for lost or damaged bibs. Awards: Presented each day to the top 3 in each event. Sunday awards will include 1st overall M, 1st overall W, 1st overall M team, 1st overall W team, 1st overall combined team.
