The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well. Pierre de Coubertin, Founder of the International Olympic Committee 2

Our Competitive Membership The Club has over 250 members and is affiliated with Swim Ontario and Swimming Canada. Swimming is Canada’s most successful Olympic sport. Chris Ellul, Head Coach of the Scarborough Swim Club, has been involved in competitive swimming for 20 years, spending the last 13 coaching swimmers of all levels. Chris has been instrumental in the growth of the Club's swim school and development programs. His philosophy has always been to swim well first, then swim well fast. The goal is to create accountable and reliable student-athletes for long term success in both swimming and in life. Our athletes are Leaders, Valedictorians, Honour Roll Students, recipients of Academic Awards and volunteers within their community. Competitive Swimming forges today’s youth into disciplined and determined individuals who are well equipped to enter the adult world. Competitive Swimmers frequent the pool up to 8x/week, averaging 50 kilometres per week training. They wake as early as 4:15 am to train before attending school. Our Athletes are dedicated, determined, and hard working individuals.
Our Training Facility The Scarborough Swim Club trains out of the world-class Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, alongside many Olympians and Para-Olympians. In 2017, the facility drew 1.2 million visitors and staged over 100 local, national and international events. The Pan Am Sports Centre is also home to many high performance organizations such as Dive Ontario, Diving Canada, Judo Ontario, Synchro Ontario, Synchro Canada, Gymnastics Canada, WheelChair Basketball Canada and WheelChair Rugby Canada. In addition to these groups, many other sport organizations also train regularly at TPASC. The facility is the largest infrastructure investment in Canadian amateur sport history. World swimming records at this facility have been set by Penny Oleksiak and Javier Acevedo and Canadian World Records have been set by Russell Wood, Zack Chetrat, Kylie Masse, Brittany Maclean, Canadian Para swimmer Daniel Murphy and more. The Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario (CSIO), located at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, provides world-leading sport science and sport performance services to identified high-performance athletes. 5
Our Club's Challenge The Scarborough Swim Club is thrilled to be training out of the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre but this privilege comes with an expense of approximately $200,000 per annum to secure adequate pool time and the cost is increasing every year. The Club is a non-profit organization with an annual budget of approximately $800,000 with 55% of revenue coming from membership and training fees. We rely heavily on fundraising to maintain our high program standards while keeping our fees affordable. Thousands of volunteer hours are spent running our Club. Parents take courses to be trained and certified in roles such as timers, referees and stroke judges in order to properly supervise and run our swim meets. We are seeking partnerships with businesses, foundations and individuals within our community.
Our Hosted Meets The Club hosts three swim meets per season: • Cindy Nicholas Memorial Swim Classic • Audi Midtown Toronto Winter Classic • Audi Midtown Toronto Pan Am Invitational These meets attract over 2,500 competitors and their families from across Ontario, Canada and even the United States. An average of 3,000 people are in attendance during the course of a weekend swim meet.
Our Partnership Opportunities There are many ways to help support our Club to defray facility costs and maintain affordable membership fees. • Advertise in meet programs: full page $350; half page $250; business card size $50 • Sponsor a specific swimmer's event for $25 in the meet program which is announced prior to the swimmer's race • Donate to our annual silent auction, sponsor awards, cater a lunch for our Officials • Sponsor a swimmer or multiple swimmers for our annual Swim-a-thon to help us reach our Club goal of $30,000 • Purchase cases of chocolates for your place of business • Donate services and/or sponsor Club functions and events such as our Awards Banquet, Summer BBQ, Social Events and Parent Nights e.g. music, decor, food, etc.
