Our KJR program prides itself on being focused on player development within an inclusive and supportive environment. This is possible through the support of the following: • The efforts of our dedicated KJR committee – Drey Baldwin, Mel Hedley, Annalise James, Jade Whiting, Stacey Jeeves, Janelle Williamson and Linda Schnitzler, who work tirelessly behind the scenes managing all activities for the season. • CEO Grant Harrison and his team at Knox Basketball Inc. as well as our army of volunteers who provide tremendous assistance and always go above and beyond to help. • Our senior coaching panel led by our Director of Basketball Operations David Ingham, Boys Co-Ordinator Darryl McDonald and Girls Co-Ordinator Suzi Porter, who spend countless hours building a proud, successful basketball program. • All team coaches, team managers and assistant coaches who are rightfully acknowledged with their teams in the year book. • The VBRA (Knox Branch) supervisors and referees led by Mitch Kennedy who do a superb, fair job, under pressure every Friday night. I would also like to acknowledge the long-term commitment and leadership of our previous KJR Chairperson, David Phillips who has stepped down from an official capacity to focus on his family and demanding business schedule. David is well known to many of us as the comforting voice of reason on training days and game nights. Thankfully, David has agreed to remain a part of the KJR Committee and will still be involved with the club. Finally, to all KJR Junior Players, thanks for your loyalty to our great club, passion for basketball and determination to be the best player you can be. The KJR program is ultimately about the players and you are the heart and soul of everything we do. Hopefully we will be back on the court soon so good luck to all of you for next season’s tryouts. director of basketball operations report The 2019/20 VJBL season certainly was filled with many challenges. Some changes implementation of this into our training and gameplay. The Knox Junior came internally, with shifts in our style of play and coaching. Then of course from Raiders committee is a group of very committed people. I want to thank an opponent that none of us had seen or heard of before, COVID-19. This virus has each one of them for their diligent work and devotion to the committee and caused massive disruption to life and basketball, unfortunately, ultimately destroying our club. Our coaches have done a fantastic job in implementing our new our very promising VJBL season in early March. style of play and adjusting to the demands placed on them from all areas of our club, mostly from myself. CONGRATULATIONS TO OLIVER GREEVES, ALANNAH CHATFIELD AND MEL HEDLEY, WHO WERE ALL CELEBRATED AT KNOX BASKETBALL’S AGM.
It started out like any other season with 10 girls, mostly existing Raiders players and a couple new to the program, coming together and connecting well from the beginning. The girls from the start worked hard at training and in games, playing for each other and focusing on their goal of making VC. Whilst off the court it was all about having lots of Tillie Baldwin fun, forming new friendships and developing old ones. After every session the girls were often found handing out, laughing, Tik Toking, and running around the stadiums. Georgie Bice The Eltham-Dandenong tournament provided a few challenges for the team, but to the credit of the team, the girls continued to show up to each game with a positive mindset and Leilea Cocker a willingness to work hard for each other. We headed to a team session at P3 Recovery for a well-earned recovery session and a little sunbake in the car park. Kodie Daniels During a Zoom session in isolation we asked the girls how they were feeling about their Aaliyah Kosky season, COVID-19 and isolation. They all agreed that their highlights were qualifying for VC, hanging out with their team mates, having fun, encouraging each other, making new friends Matilda MacDonald and playing with old friends. The love and respect that this team have for each other and their coaches is second to none. Libby Moseley Like everyone, we were disappointed when the season was put on hold due to COVID. However, we managed as best we could, staying connected over Zoom and Tik Tok. Evie Sutherland The girls continued to work on their individual skills at home and our trick shot clips were a highlight for the girls during “iso”. Cassandra Taylor For such a social & well-connected group, missing their teammates and coaches has been Charlize Jeeves really tough. When the season was cancelled, everyone was sad that they would not get another chance Drey Baldwin (HC) to play together under Drey, but we could only look ahead and focus on next season. For next season, the girls are looking forward to seeing everyone again at tryouts and will Rhianna Little (AC) continue to work hard on their goals to make the best team possible and supporting their teammates to do the same. Stacey Jeeves (TM) Although it wasn’t the season we expected, thank you to our incredible group of families - the love, support and encouragement amongst this group has been amazing. To our amazing coaches, Drey and Rhi – thank you for challenging, supporting and encouraging these girls to be the best players and teammates that they can be.
The 12.1 Boys were used to playing against each other in their domestic competition and many of the boys were excited to join forces on the same side for the very first time. Laso Ali Proud as punch to be selected in the 1s team, the boys and their families also felt extremely fortunate to be under the leadership of Gerard Leonard for their mostly top James Barna age journey. For the first few games & training sessions, the boys were whisper quiet as they trained Harry Dempsey and played in a focused fashion without uttering a word. Gerard and the parents would encourage them to “speak up” as a running joke but they got the job done in silence Lucas Fedele until they became comfortable with each other. Archie Garbuio Practice games were a challenge as the group found their feet and succumbed to league giants Kilsyth & Nunawading, but when it came time for grading the boys Jacob Hansen started solidly and didn’t lose a game. The group bonded quickly and formed fast friendships that stood them in good stead Jace Porter for the upcoming season with momentum building after every game. Dante Tavrou-Sougleris In January the boys participated in the Eltham-Dandenong Tournament over the Australia Day long weekend. The boys were lucky to be coached by the legendary Oliver Ziemelis-Dawes DMac which was an experience they will never forget, and whilst they bowed out in the quarter finals by a heart-stopping buzzer beater, they used the back to back games Gerard Leonard (HC) as an opportunity to get to know each other better and advance their skills. The boys enjoyed daily ice baths to aid their recovery and a family dinner at Zagames. Darcy Harrison (AC) Continuing on with their grading games saw the team gain increasing confidence & Elle Tavrou-Sougleris (TM) cohesion and the boys found out in February that their hard work had paid off and they had qualified for the Victorian Championship (VC) division. Unfortunately, the boys only got to play one game before the season was postponed but we can proudly say that the 12.1 boys were undefeated in VC for Season 2020!!
The 12/2 Girls had a pre-season full of promise.... Emily Bond Alicia Collins Our 10 energetic and talented players gelled quickly and immediately started executing Coach Jarryd & Zoe’s game plans of strong D and great offence. This led the team to the Evie Edwards cusp of a VC birth. All this was underpinned by the team philosophy of always showing support for each other; high fives all round, always congratulating players coming to the Scarlet Frodsham bench and loads of cheering from the sidelines...the louder the better! Talia Hider The girls had an amazing opportunity to play an exhibition match against a travelling Isabella Martin New Zealand team which was a highlight, with the NZ team showcasing both their basketball skills and culture. Eliza Mcconnell Mia Milne And then there was the pandemic... Riana Muir Suddenly games and on court training were replaced by Zoom meetings and iso- training. The team has shown great resilience in the face of all these changes and have Isabella Whitwell continued to develop their ball handling skills in driveways and backyards. Jarryd & Zoe did an amazing job keeping the girls together as a team even though they were apart. Jarryd Cursio (HC) Zoe Cursio (AC) Although the girls never had the opportunity to shine during the regular season they have shown there is so much to look forward to when they next hit the court. Nicole Frodsham (TM)
The 2019/2020 season has been challenging one for the 12.2 boys. An encouraging start to the practice games left the boys feeling excited for the year to come. Finley Ede Tim had an array of talent to work with in the team with a vision to build and fine tune each players attributes and skills. Luca Gonczol The Australia Day Tournament was an absolute blast. Team building and equal playing Vlado Ivkovic time was the key to these games. Making sure all boys received court time to ensure their development. The boys enjoyed an ice bath after their morning game against Thomas Krawczyk Dandenong which was a lot of fun. They also learnt the importance of eating the right food to enhance their performance. Time spent ‘ten pin bowling’ was a great way to Jarvis Krug get to know each other outside the basketball environment. With the boys winning the majority of their games they were fortunate enough to play Blake Phillips in the finals against McKinnon. Unfortunately, it was not our night and we lost this game. Flynn Reeves The tournament was an encouraging sign for what was to be an interesting start to Zeth Southam grading. The boys fought their way through the challenging VC grading games. With a few wins Heath Thiele up their sleeve, the boys needed to win their final game to remain in VC. We travelled to Nunawading to play the Camberwell Dragons. They boys tried their hardest but Aiden Turkkan were not able to get up for this game. We landed in VJL1. Thank you to Vlado, Blake, Luca, Tom, Finley, Flynn, Zeth, Aiden, Heath and Jarvis for your dedication to the Raiders Tim Conduit (HC) program. Claire Gonczol (TM) We would like to send a special thank you to Tim for being there for each of the boys. You are a very patient coach with extended knowledge of the game and the boys were Melissa Phillips (TM) lucky to have you there during the short season we encountered. Also, a shout out to Ray for his support during trainings. It has been an interesting year and hope to see all the boys back on the courts training and playing soon. Go Raiders!!
Our 12/3 girls came together for the 2019/20 season – 4 existing raiders players and 6 new to the program – with a good mix of 6 top age and 4 bottom aged players. The main focus for the team was to develop their fundamentals to show significant improvement by the end of the season. Keira De Wit Our grading season started well – with a few good wins on the board prior to Xmas which put us in a good position to make VJL2. Zoe Thomassen Prior to the Xmas break, the Holman’s graciously opened their home to the team where Mia Burridge the girls enjoyed a great lunch and fun in the pool. It was difficult to get them to leave – they were enjoying it so much. The team were cementing friendships which was Mikaylah Costa great to see. At the end of January, we headed into the Australia Day tournament. We had been Grace McInerney graded quite high and subsequently didn’t win a game. But the girls never gave up. Defensively, they played quite well however we couldn’t hit the scoreboard at the Marlie Moloney offensive end. There were still lots of fun and giggles as the girls headed to P3 Sports Recovery to enjoy the ice baths – where we met up with the 12/1 girls – followed by Aliyah Rout dinner at Maccas. Ella Cranwell The following Friday night we headed into the second half of grading. The girls came up against opposition that were tall and strong and by the end of grading we made Isla Holman VJL3 and the girls were ready to begin their season. Unfortunately, this is when COVID hit and we didn’t get to start the season. Isabel Kladakis Since this time, we have had a few Zoom meetings – just to keep the spirit of the girls alive – in hope that we will be returning to the court in the not too distant future. We Krissy McNiece (HC) got back to training for a couple of weeks and then the second wave hit which has seen an end to our season. Jacqui Holman (TM) I would like to thank all the parents for their positive encouragement of all of our girls and in particular to Jacqui Holman for volunteering to be our team manager for the season. I wish the girls all the best for next season.
What could have been….This was only my second season as a Head Coach and my first venture into the realm of U12’s basketball, and I couldn’t have been more excited for the challenge that would have been the 2020 season. Liam Alexander Prior to tryouts I struggled to find an Assistant Coach, until a good friend with a surname reputable with Knox Basketball, Taylor Carroll kindly jumped on board. I was fortunate enough to Jacob Cripps have a friend and a mentor alongside me to help bring these young men along and aid me to see things on the court that really helped bring my coaching along with the short time that we had. Ryder Ellis Come tryouts, I aimed to challenge myself in a few different ways – I wanted to pick players with Jack Freeman potential, a solid work ethic and good character. Taking two double-bottom age athletes was the first challenge. Two small guards with two unique skill sets that I wish would have been a long journey of development throughout the year. Liam Hillyer I also took along three bottom age athletes and five top age. Everyone had their own flare with Kadin Johnston how they played the game and showed a sense of creativity and willingness to learn that really jumped out at me during tryouts. Mitchell Larkin Being able to pick ten athletes whose personalities really resonated with my coaching philosophy was really special – these kids were eager to work on their games right away and challenged Tyler Ofield each other at training to prove themselves ready for any opportunity on a Friday night. Rather than jump straight into learning how to break presses and run offences to combat the Jaxon Van Leeuwen gauntlet that is VJBL grading season, the kids were excited to work on fundamentals and the basis of their basketball knowledge that would help them grow throughout the season, even if Nicolas Wilkeson that meant we lost a few games early on. The magic started to become apparent a few weeks down the track where they would exhibit Daniel Gianchino (HC) skills on game day that they had never performed before, other than at training. Seeing their eyes light up and looking over at the bench with a sense of accomplishment that had nothing to do Taylor Carroll (AC) with the scoreboard and their team mates practically giving them a standing ovation for doing so was surreal. Helene Cripps (TM) I am extremely grateful to Knox Basketball for allowing me the opportunity to coach such fine young athletes for an unfortunately short period of time. I couldn’t have done any of it without Kriss Beatty-Johnston (TM) the help of my assistant Taylor and my fantastic, hard-working team managers Helene and Kriss. A special thanks, as always, to our amazing Junior Raiders committee, David Ingham and co- ordinators on both sides – there would be no Knox without you.
It was most of the girls first introduction into playing representative basketball and at first, I think a lot of them were quite shocked with how serious it was taken and how different it was to their standard of domestic basketball. After the girls made it through the try-outs we went to the singlet ceremony where we met Brad Emily Airs Farrell, the girls coach for the season. A few days later we had our first training session where the girls got a bit of a shock of how much they were going to have to work to get themselves up Taniesha Artridge to the level of where they needed to be to be competitive in this new normal of rep basketball and waking up at 7am on a Sunday morning. Izabelle Bird We had a few more training sessions and the girls were really showing some great improvement under the experience of their fair but demanding coach. The girls were prepped & excited for the Louisa Canning first practice match against Casey where we blew them out of the water, and it all looked too easy until the next game, and the next, and a few more after that. Praewsita Chin Even though the reality of the difference between domestic & rep basketball was becoming quite noticeable to the girls, they still went to training and gave it their all, and listened to their coach Leni Farrell and started to implement what they were learning at training into their game with spacing, passing and moving to space and even running a few plays. Ava MacPherson They showed so much improvement over the course of the Eltham-Dandenong tournament, and even though the girls were exhausted after so many games in so few days, they pushed Orla Mcdonald themselves and managed a draw in one of the last games for the weekend. They got through Christmas and were back at training getting themselves fit and ready for Stella Mills the upcoming grading games where they all kept showing growth in their skills and in their gameplay. Olivia Parry We were graded into VJL5 Pool 1, after months of training and practice games they were finally ready for the start of the season, Woohoo.... Brad Farrell (HC) At 3:45pm on Friday the 11th of March was when I got the message “All games for tonight have been cancelled along with Sunday’s training due to COVID-19, we’ll keep you posted about Brent Airs (TM) Tuesday’s training”... Other than a handful of training sessions and a lot of isolation between now (31st of July) and that day 4 months ago that is pretty much the Knox Raiders Girls U12/4 season.... Wishing everyone health and safety to friends and family during these unsettling times.
The 12/4 Boys were having a terrific season which unfortunately got stopped Lachlan Boncher prematurely. Pleasingly the boys took to Zoom catch ups and IQ development sessions and were some of the most active contributors to the many online sessions and Joshua Clarke continued to push their development off court while we were unable to train as a group. David De Pedro The team was a solid mix of top and bottom age players with many new to the Raiders program this year, but from the first game of grading their raw skills shone through and Jacob Evans the effort both on and off court was to be admired. Through this period of early games, the boys quickly developed a strong camaraderie which we hope will endure in future Liam Ferris years. Jacob Green Throughout the grading period the team consistently worked very well together and brought high energy to all training and games. The team worked well within the River Kudeweh whole of age group Under 12s structure at training and enjoyed being able to challenge themselves against players from other teams during these sessions and listening to the Ben Lamaro different coach’s voices. This meant we finished the grading season placed in VJL4, a very good effort with so many new players to the program. Hartley Peace The boys also played well in the Australia Day tournament making finals with everyone contributing. During the tournament we went bowling and some laughs and Bryce Trubridge entertainment was had. This again highlighted how positively the boys got on with each other despite the unfortunate events of 2020 cutting the season short. Keith Baker (HC) The group were a great bunch to be involved with and their dedication and work Brett Troake (AC) during the time away from the courts has been very good. The effort applied by the players during such difficult time is to be complimented and all players are great young Alyson McKelvey (TM) ambassadors for Knox. We look forward to the boys being able to return to the court for the 2020/21 season and seeing how they progress. Nikki Tanner (TM) Thank you to all of the players and parents for being very supportive and to the team managers and coaches for their collective work supporting the boys.
It was with some excited nerves & trepidation that the 12/5 boys received their singlets at the Presentation Day. Out of a team of 10, only 2 had previously played a season at Raiders. For others, they had a lot riding on the try outs; some had tried out previously and missed out on Joshua Alexander selection, others desperately wanted to follow in the footsteps of older siblings or even parents, and others just went along to the rep ready sessions for fun, only to be told to Rohan Bowman head straight to the try outs. Under the guidance of Mitch, training started in earnest. Our first games were played Jaudy Chisholm and we were smashing our opponents. To some, that sounds like a dream. But the reality is, winning each game convincingly leads to big egos and big egos are hard to Jake James coach. The other issue with winning all the time is it doesn’t allow for weaknesses to show, and without knowing the weaknesses it’s hard to know what to improve on. After Landon Kruger the first re-grade, the competition was better, but the boys often went out and played their own game, trying to emulate the NBL or NBA stars that they idolised. Hunter Mascitti The Eltham-Dandenong Tournament came around. Mitch knew the boys needed a Flynn Synnott challenge, as they hadn’t really been tested yet. Mitch convinced the tournament organisers and we were bumped from C2 to B2. The same division as the 12/4 Boys. Dilan Turkkan The 9 boys (Herman was devastated to be away with the family in KL) took to the court on the Friday night against the 12/4s. You could call it a friendly, but both were out to Brodie Williams prove a point! And the points we got! Saturday saw some wins and some losses. We went to bed feeling deflated as we were sitting 6th on the ladder. After a strong start Herman Wong on the Sunday we went to bed that night on 2nd, knowing we were finals contenders on the Monday. It was bittersweet though as we were up against the 12/4s again. Mitchell Walker (HC) Either way, it meant Raiders were winners. Once again we took the win and fronted up for the grand final against a very strong Sturt team. We started strong but couldn’t Peta Alexander (TM) maintain it and Sturt came away with a convincing win. But as a team, we were the real winners, as we had started the weekend as individual players, but by the end of the tournament weekend had finally gelled as a team. We were super excited to see what the season had in store for us. We are missing those Sunday morning training sessions more than I thought possible.
It was safe to say everyone was under the assumption this season would be a long one filled with plenty of losing, learning, growing and development after the team was selected. From then on, we saw an inexperienced group of boys aged 7-10 become a team that not only enjoyed each other’s company but also loved playing and learning together. This dedicated team had a single goal of improving their skills to become the Thomas Brooker best players they can be. Their high level of commitment saw an immediate and rapid rate of improvement in both their skills and ability to play at a high level. Archer Dunlop We transitioned into grading games where the team found immediate success. Benjamin Freeman Consecutive wins resulted in promotion and lead to versing very tough competition including multiple 1’s, 2’s and 3’s sides from other clubs. Team numbers did not scare Oscar Maasakkers them as they rose to the challenge and continued their winning streak. Near heart- stopping experiences were common, as many games finished with a margin between 1 Chase Phillips and 5 points….the boys loved to make things exciting! The COVID-19 break didn’t stop the boys’ dedication towards the common goal of Tyler Reid improving. They stayed connected and committed through Zoom team chats, outdoor trainings, Homecourt challenges, completing weekly training plans and participating Callum Robinson in a fun weekly competition labelled “Trick Shot Thursday”. They all showed amazing character to push through the tough time and remain invested in improving their skills Jasper Stephens while away from the game. Oliver Wilford The growth & development of our boys would not have been possible without the commitment and passion of their amazing coach, Kaleb. From day one, Kaleb has been Koby Williams invested in seeing our boys improve and be the best they can be. Kaleb’s dedication to extra training and keeping our boys focused during these uncertain times has truly been Kaleb Foster (HC) inspiring. Our boys are beyond lucky to have had not just a great coach but a true role model to look up to. A massive thank you must also me given to the team managers, Alana Stephens (TM) Alana and Melissa, for their amazing ability to organise the team. Overall, the season has been a huge success for everyone involved in the team. It’s a shame that it was cut short, however everyone should be proud of how much they developed in such a small period. It’s exciting to think about the future for these talented young players!
The team was chosen, the coach was new and coming all the way from Western Australia – and the girls couldn’t wait to meet Georgia. In what was set to be an amazing year, our beautiful team of girls, formed together from 4 Gemma Barclay different teams, to find their feet with a tough start but improved each and every week and we managed to qualify for VC. We had a nail biter in Bendigo on the day of love (Valentines Ashleigh Bell Day) that managed to sneak us through, and what a game it was. Over the Christmas break we had a great trip to the inflatable water park - and although it Lauren Briginshaw was cold, it was an amazing bonding session for the girls and Coaches alike. This secured friendships that blossomed both on and off the court. Breanna Carter With a challenging Australia Day tournament, the girls grew as a team, and improved Rhianna Harrison their results each game. Their teamwork was starting to show on the court, and on the scoreboard and we moved on from there. It was great to play against some interstate and NZ teams along the way. Georgia Kavanagh We got a chance to play a NZ team whilst they were visiting which an amazing opportunity, Hannah Mafrici and which inspired most of the girls to take up the opportunity to head across to NZ to play them in the Easter NZ tournament. We were very sad to miss out on playing our new found Siena Pantano friends once the trip was cancelled. We were all ready to start the season when COVID-19 hit, however this was never going Stella Wiseman to stop the progress. Georgia & Rhi were a great support for the girls through the tough changes with lockdown and was determined to keep their spirits high. Zoom sessions were Niamh Zulian organised and as much practise that we could fit in whilst socially distanced - we were ready for the resumption of the season. There is no way this team was going to admit defeat Georgia Clarke (HC) that early. To continue the bond Gerry (our Team Manager) delivered Easter treats while social distancing and between Zoom training when we had PJ and Super Hero Quiz nights, Rhiannon Ockwell (AC) and plenty of Zoom sessions, we were ready to take that court. Gerry McKenna (TM) Whilst COVID stopped our season, nothing was going to stop the passion of these girls and coaches. Although we missed out this season, we are all ready to go and just as inspired as ever to continue our basketball endeavours in the future. A massive thanks to Georgia in her first Melbourne season, and also Rhi for all their efforts this season. It was great to have such strong role models for our girls.
The 14.1 Boys could not have had a better start to the season. They were improving every single training session and our team bond was getting stronger every training session. Our practice matches were successful and we sat down as a team and set goals for the season. As a team we decided we wanted to set goals to achieve them! Our team goals included: Tairon Ah-Mu • Qualifying for VC in Phase 1 of Grading • Qualifying for VC and not VC Reserve Zackary Ashe • Qualifying for the Classic and winning a medal at the National Junior Classic • Making the VC Grand Final Fletcher Cawley • Qualifying for Nationals and winning a medal at Nationals Although these goals were high, they were definitely achievable for these 10 boys who put 110% into Harrison Chapman each session. As a coach, I could not have asked for a more dedicated and committed team. We were privileged enough to be able to play the New Zealand team, North Harbour, in a practice Jake Collins match before the Australia Day Tournament. These boys had travelled to another country to play a basketball tournament and it was great to be able to play them before the tournament began. Oliver Greeves The boys had a very successful Australia Day Tournament. They had an amazing experience playing Lithuania and seeing the style of basketball these boys play. Even though this was our first loss, we learnt a lot from this and used this as our motivation throughout the rest of the tournament. The boys Mitchell Hansen made the Qualifying Final and won against Dandenong. They officially made top four and had a final against Keilor the next day. Unfortunately, we went down in this Semi Final, however it was a great Motu Junior Uelehipa learning curve for our team. We knew what we needed to work on and how we were going to adapt this to the next time we played Keilor and other high quality teams. Marcus Krasnadamskis We started our VC season very strong. Everything we had been working on at training all came together and we won against Casey by 35 points. This was the third time we had played Casey already! Max Nicoll Even though we went into lockdown after our first VC game of the season, our boys were still training online 3 times a week. They never gave up and always brought a positive attitude to these sessions. Michelle Letts (HC) We were very excited when we went back to training for nearly 3 weeks. Slow and steady wins the race was our team motto! Melissa Hansen (AC) Even though we are currently in lockdown 2.0, our boys are continuing to train 3 times a week. We are hopeful for the Eastern Region Competition and are using this as our motivation during this Michelle Nicoll (TM) difficult time. A massive thank you to my Assistant Coach Mel Hansen and my Team Manager Michelle Nicoll for all their hard work throughout this season. This is definitely not the fairy tale ending we had hoped for, but as a coach I hope my team and their families are fit and healthy and are ready to go back to normal before we know it!
Wow, what a rollercoaster ride we have all had this season (or lack of ). The team of Ari, Maddison, Keira, Caitlyn, Emily, Bridgette, Kate, Emerson, Larni and Charity Kate Bourke looked to have come to play right from the get-go. The practice games up to the Christmas break were all wins and we had high hopes of a high Maddison Butler grading. We had a great start to the year during the Australia Day tournament, making it to the grand Larni Campbell final. The team did a great job but were held off by a stronger team on the day. The girls held their heads high that day and made us all immensely proud. To come away with a runners up Keira Dhanapala finish was nothing to sneeze at and was a sign of things to come. Unfortunately, once we came back after the break it all changed. We just could not get a win on Bridget Ellinger the board. We were in the games for a long way but just could not get over the line. The girls managed to notch up a couple of wins before grading finished which saw us slot into Araliya Perera VJL3 and the girls were pumped for the season………and then it was gone!! The season was over before it began, postponed due to the corona virus outbreak. Charity Poe The coaches throughout the down period did an amazing job of staying in touch with the team, the zoom meetings, Sunday training sessions and check ins from time to time. Emily Rajher The girls were excited when they found out that their hard work off the court was about to be put to the test when we got word of the season finally starting, but again for it to all be taken Caitlyn Roberts away without a chance of restarting. Emerson Watt Many will say what a waste of a season, but I think the full credit to Lauren & Gabby for keeping the girls interested and training in hope we could have returned to the court. Lauren Robinson (HC) To them I say thank you, without your dedication to the team the girls may have become world famous on facetagram or instabook for doing silly tik toks all day. Gabby Tarabolsi (AC) I strongly believe we had a team that could have gone a long way into the finals series and possibly come away with a flag. Unfortunately, that will now be a what could have been. Shane Butler (TM) In closing I truly wish all the girls the absolute best for their futures Raider careers, as they are all capable of great things, as shown in the limited games they got to play. Victoria Butler (TM) To all coaches, players, parents and supporters, please stay safe through these challenging times. I hope to see all your friendly faces around the courts soon, whether as a referee for one of your games or a parent cheering on their kids, I cannot wait to get back into it.
The 2019/20 season was a crazy one to say the least. The Australia Day tournament saw the boys make it to the AR grand final after playing Luke Atacador some great basketball over the weekend against some great opposition, coming out as Runners Up and enjoying some team bonding time for a family BBQ lunch at the TMs Kohilan Balanathan house. After the tournament, we struggled to have a full team having constant injuries and Alexander Makey illnesses making it hard to string together vital wins in the grading phase where we found ourselves matching up against bigger oppositions. Lincoln Mann This season was truly one like no other with the COVID-19 kicking off social distancing Dylan Nuku and putting a stop to face to face training. During this time the boys didn’t let this slow down their development as we took to home court and zoom having individual Harry Robinson competitions against each other weekly before joining a competition to play against other teams and training over zoom. Owen Stack Just as we started to come back and get our hopes up for a season restart we were once again struck with isolation rules putting an end to our season. While the season is Thomas Swainston over at the point of writing this, we all continue to work hard over zoom trainings every week to help each other get better and be ready for their next basketball journey. Oscar Torcasio Luke, Macca, Koh, Stacky, Tom, Dyl, Linc, Harry, Oscar and Alex, thank you boys for an Mckenzie Williamson amazing season, I’ve enjoyed every second spent with you, you are all amazing kids and I can’t wait to see where your journey in basketball and life takes you all. Hayden Morris (HC) Thank you to Kate for being an amazing team manager and taking care of everything Danny Nuku (AC) behind the scenes for the boys, parents and I, you are amazing. To all the parents thank you for everything. I’ve enjoyed getting to know you and your families better over the Kate Swainston (TM) past 9 months and of course to Danny, my amazing assistant coach, without you the season wouldn’t have been possible, and thank you for giving up your time each week & being dedicated to helping me and the boys, I truly appreciate everything you have done for me and this group.
