College of Arts and Media 2 0 Awards 2 0 Convocation COMMEMORATIVE PROGRAM Summer 2020 Marshall University
COLLEGE OF ARTS AND MEDIA AWARDS CONVOCATION Commemorative Program Summer 2020 It is with great pleasure and honor that I present to you this commemorative program celebrating awards received by our students in the College of Arts and Media. The college is in its seventh year and is composed of the School of Art & Design, the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications, the School of Music, and the School of Theatre and Dance. We are home to the Marshall Artists Series, our student newspaper The Parthenon, Marshall University Theatre, the Marching Thunder, the student FM radio station WMUL, the Carroll and Birke Fine Art Galleries, and numerous other prominent programs. We are a community that includes Marshall University’s brightest, most creative students, and a faculty and staff whose credentials, abilities, and commitment are second to none. In this program, we focus primarily on scholarships students have earned for the 2020-2021 academic year. A comprehensive list of awards and achievements of our students would require a much more extensive document. Listed here are award-winning student broadcasters, performers, designers, artists, and writers. Highly accomplished faculty artists, scholars and researchers are listed here, as well. We applaud all of you. Your work brings credit to Marshall University and distinguishes the College of Arts and Media as the institution’s most vibrant academic unit. You are the College of Arts and Media, the incandescent portal through which the greater community enters and engages with Marshall University. Our Awards Convocation, on this occasion by virtue of this commemorative program, brings together family, friends, and supporting members of the university and community. We acknowledge achievement and highlight student and faculty success. We celebrate the individual and collective commitment to excellence that defines our college. We honor parents, spouses, partners, children, and patrons, as well, who deserve our thanks and whose support made many of these achievements possible. The sheer number of students we recognize today is testimony to the work of our outstanding faculty and staff. Much of what they do goes unrecognized, and they work daily, tirelessly, and without fanfare to ensure quality experiences for our students. Remarkably, we recognize over 100 students today with close to 90 endowed scholarships and named awards representing an endowment value of more than $6 million dollars. This is only possible because of the profound generosity of many people who have established endowments to support our students and programs. We are deeply grateful for their generosity. Thanks to them, the College of Arts and Media is the gold standard at Marshall University for endowed scholarships and awards. The list of awards in our program represents the many donors who have, over many decades, demonstrated their commitment to this college. Sincerest best wishes to you all. I hope we can all be together again soon. Thank you! Wendell Dobbs, DMA Interim Dean
