2018 Fall Education Institute Information REGISTRATION INFORMATION Registration fees include: Instruction, lunch and break refreshments. Codes and other reference books are NOT provided and are the responsibility of the student. Presentation material may be downloaded from the AZBO website after payment for classes has been received. For your convenience, codebooks and other reference material may be purchased from the International Code Council (ICC) on-site bookstore during the conference. Please review the session descriptions for required reference material. 2018 Fall Education Institute Information CONFIRMATION If paying online, your receipt from Authorize.net will be your confirmation. If paying by check, you will still need to register online and use the pay later option. Paper registrations will not be accepted. A confirmation will be sent within 5 days of processing your registration. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY CONFIRMATION PAPERWORK PROVIDED. You will not be considered registered until payment is received. CANCELLATION POLICY Cancellations must be received by the Registrar seven (7) days prior to the scheduled course date in order to receive a full refund. SUBSTITUTIONS Whenever a registrant is unable to attend a paid course, a request in writing for a substitution must be made by contacting the Registrar at registar@azbo.us prior to the event. If a substitute registrant makes this request on-site and without prior approval, an additional fee of $50 will be applied. ADA ACCOMODATIONS People with a disability requiring reasonable accommodation should notify the AZBO Registrar. Please allow ample time for requests to be processed. CONTINUING EDUCATION All AZBO Education Institute courses are approved and recognized by the International Code Council Preferred Provider Network (ICCPPN) towards maintenance of your ICC certifications. 2018 Fall Education Course Descriptions MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2018 Session 101 2018 IBC Advanced Means of Egress CEU'S - 0.7 An advanced look at the means of egress requirements included in Chapter 10 of the International Building Code. The presentation will include detailed discussions on the design and review of the means of egress in unusual occupancies. Subjects included in the class are malls, assembly occupancies, special egress components, smoke proof enclosures, horizontal exits and exit passageways. Practical examples will be used to illustrate code requirements. This class is designed for those students that have a basic understanding of how the means of egress is designed and reviewed. All Instructor: Scott Scharli Salt River Project Session 204A Category I Vent Sizing CEU'S - 0.35 This class is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and insight to size appliance connectors, B-vent pipe and fittings for Category I appliances by utilizing the GAMA (Gas Appliances Manufacturers Association) Vent Tables. This class will cover the difference between a UL Listed “appliance connector” and UL Listed B-vent and when each is required. By the end of this interactive class, the student will have a good working knowledge of using the GAMA tables and will work through sizing vent for several application examples. The student will walk away with solid knowledge of the different types of venting products (B-vent, Stainless Steel, PVC, CPVC, etc…) that are used on the different categories of appliances. This presentation will review “what’s in the residential code”, the several different pathways that builders can comply with the code, and a more in- depth building science review of how homes are built to maximize energy efficiency, comfort, and durability. It will provide a clear understanding of the difference between a fire damper and ceiling radiation damper and why they are not interchangeable. Students will see, touch and feel the different types of each of the categories of dampers, learn how they are installed and what is required to make a UL Listed compliant installation. This class will cover obstruction rules, minimum installation requirements and the tricks of the trades during inspections of residential fire sprinkler systems. Compliance will be based on the 2013 Edition of NFPA 13D. However, changes to the 2016 Edition will be noted when appropriate as well as amendments found in the International Fire & Residential Codes, 2015 Edition. The purpose of this class will be to focus on some of the big ticket items during inspections and the importance of performing rough-in inspections. This class would benefit building and fire officials, plans examiners, inspectors, design professionals, contractors, and the construction industry. Our codes also require accessible egress features in buildings for those same people so they can reach safety during an emergency. This class will focus on the various components of accessible means of egress, along with how to find the code requirements that apply when reviewing plans and inspecting buildings for egress. The class will start with the basics of accessible code compliance, allowing everyone to participate and ask questions. This training is designed for Plans Examiners, Fire and Building Inspectors. Contractors, Architects and Engineers. We will review the requirements of sections 714 and 715 of the IBC for joint systems, perimeter containment, through and membrane-penetrations and discuss the new ASTM firestop inspection standards. Students will receive an overview of residential requirements of fire blocking. This program will also provide code compliant solutions along with helpful hints for plans examiners and inspectors. This review will cover NEC article 690 and 705 calculations and installation requirements, IBC structural considerations, and IFC installation requirements for a code compliant installation. When should code officials ask for more details on the site plan to clarify accessible routes? We will answer why some curb ramps have detectable warning surfaces and some do not? Any why some plans include the PROWAG requirements that civil engineers use? The class will introduce the Proposed Accessibility Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public Right-of-way (PROWAG) which may seem new to some, but it works hand-in-hand with the ADA Standards and with IBC/ANSI.
