DAY 1: Monday 8th April, 2019 HOME TO MARYSVILLE Welcome to our tour to the Yarra Valley. This is a stunning area to be in at this time of year. With personal pickup from your home, our journey this morning takes us to Belgrave in the Dandenongs, where one of the most famous and enjoyable things to do is to take a ride through the lush mountainside, from Belgrave to Emerald on the historic “Puffing Billy” steam train. After our ride we head to the lovely Blue Lotus Water Garden. There are 14 acres of display garden here, with two lakes and an area of river flats that have been landscaped with eighty small ponds filled with over fifty different varieties of lotus. The ponds contain hundreds of plants generating thousands of blooms daily, and three smaller dams with hundreds of flowering water lilies and lotus edged by many exotic plants. Situated in the Upper Yarra Valley it is set beneath the grand peaks of the Mount Donna Buang Ranges. This is also our lunch stop today. We then continue on to Marysville where we settle in to our hotel, our base for the duration of our tour. OVERNIGHT: Vibe Hotel, MARYSVILLE
DAY 2: Tuesday 9th April, 2019 MARYSVILLE Marysville was established in 1863 as a stopover for diggers on the way to nearby goldfields and today we’ll explore this charming town. In the 1920’s Marysville evolved into a popular honeymoon and resort town, with many guesthouses offering a range of accommodation options. The Black Saturday bushfires created another chapter of history in Marysville. Whilst most of the town was destroyed in the fires, the close knit community is rebuilding their town. This morning we visit Bruno’s Art and Sculpture Gardens. The garden began with just fifteen life sizes terracotta sculptures, today there are over one hundred and fifteen pieces on display - and Bruno is still making regular additions! The unique experience of the garden and its wondrous inhabitants attracts thousands of visitors a year. Bruno and the family still live there and always take great pleasure in being able to share their magnificent art treasure with all that come. We spend some time visiting the Historic Photo Exhibition behind the Visitor Information Centre. After lunch at the Marysville Bakery, we take a drive to Lake Eildon for some fantastic views from the Dam Wall before a visit to the Alexandra Timber Tramway and Museum. Although the trains won’t be operating today, we will be able to see a recreation of the bush sawmill and tramway era of the Rubicon forest from 1900 to 1950, as well as a wide range of industrial locomotives and rolling stock before heading back to Marysville. OVERNIGHT: Vibe Hotel, MARYSVILLE
DAY 3: Wednesday 10th April, 2019 EXPLORING THE AREA This morning our touring takes us first to Healesville and the Healesville Sanctuary. Showcasing more than 200 species of Australian wildlife, the Sanctuary is a fantastic place to view native animals in their natural habitat. Whilst here we’ll take a guided tour of the sanctuary and learn a bit about the mysterious Platypus in its nocturnal creek habitat. We then drive on to Coldstream and stop at Rochford Winery. Situated in one of the most stunning regions in Australia with breathtaking panoramic views of the Great Dividing Ranges, the winery showcases a restaurant, cafe and patio, cellar door, retail shop, wine club, art gallery and expansive natural amphitheater and observation tower. We’ll indulge in a wine tasting and relax over lunch and maybe take a wander around the grounds. Our last stop before leaving Healesville, is a visit to the Big Bouquet, a gerbera flower farm and an alpaca breeding stud. We experience a guided tour of the gerbera glasshouse that holds more than 62,000 plants and hear how these top quality gerberas are grown. We’ll also have the opportunity to take a close look at the friendly Alpacas and visit the gift shop. OVERNIGHT: Vibe Hotel, MARYSVILLE
DAY 4: Thursday 11th April, 2019 HEADING HOME Time we headed for home and we have a lovely day ahead of us! Retracing our steps, we head to the Yarra Valley to visit the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery. We are welcomed with delicious chocolate tastings, displays of thousands of premium chocolates and European chocolatiers at work handcrafting our creations. Our next stop is Alowyn Gardens where we will be provided with an informative and educational experience for anyone interested not only in gardening, but also the enjoyment of the beautiful garden. What started out as a blackberry infested paddock has been designed with shade and comfort in mind and developed in six distinct areas. We have lunch here before heading to Silvan and the Tesselaar KaBloom Festival – where we will be treated to a visual spectacular with sensational fields of colourful blooms. Breathtaking views and ‘selfie’ opportunities abound in the fields with delightful Delphiniums, fascinating Foxgloves, super Snap Dragons, beautiful Begonias, zingy Zinnia, heart-warming Hollyhocks, sizzling Salvia, darling Dahlias, cool Cosmos and plenty more! From here we head back to Melbourne where our chauffeurs will be waiting to take us to our very doors!
