Jac Mathieson, Convenor INVITATION FROM THE CONVENOR Peter Mac is proud to host MD Anderson Cancer Center - Global Academic Programs (GAP) 2020 Conference in Melbourne, Australia. This is the first time MD Anderson in Houston, Texas has brought its annual GAP conference to Australia. On behalf of the organising committee, we invite you to take part in the conference where the largest global network of cancer centres come together. Participants will join us from the Melbourne, Australia Americas, Asia, Europe, Middle East, Australia and Africa. The conference will be held on 11-13 May 2020 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The theme for 2020 is New Frontiers: Leading Inspired Cancer Care. This theme reflects the speed at which cancer care is changing and the integration of new technologies, while most importantly ensuring that the patient remains at the centre of all we do. Plenary sessions will explore, the latest in immunotherapy, what the future in digital and advanced health services might hold including the use of artificial intelligence, deep machine learning and robotics, ensuring access to care for all patients through the use of tele health in delivering clinical trials; and improving patient outcomes through focusing on prehabilitation programs. The conference is the global collaborative event of MD Anderson Cancer Center, a global network of hospitals and health care systems dedicated to MD Anderson’s mission of eliminating cancer. As Australia’s only public hospital solely dedicated to cancer research, treatment and education, Peter Mac is the only Australian Sister Institution in MD Anderson Cancer Center. The annual GAP conference provides a forum for faculty from MD Anderson and its network members, over 40 institutions worldwide, to develop collaborations and exchange research results and ideas. The event is held at MD Anderson in odd years and is hosted by a Sister Institution in even years, with over 600 medical, surgical and radiation oncologists, cancer specialist nurses, allied health clinicians and clinical and laboratory researchers attending. We believe that strong collaborations with our industry partners are fundamental to improving the outcomes for patients with cancer. We look forward to welcoming you to the conference and to working with you to ensure it is a mutually rewarding experience.
