YARRAWONGA HEALTH Graduate Nurse Program Strengthening Health in our Community through Excellence and Innovation
___________________________________________________________ What we offer at Yarrawonga Health Yarrawonga Health is a public rural health service located in the Moira Shire of Victoria. YH provides lower complexity acute inpatient services, residential aged care and primary and community health services. Services provided by YH include: • 19 acute medical/surgical, including Palliative Care • 2 bed maternity service providing a low risk delivery service, and transfers from the local regional health service • Urgent Care Centre, including an after-hours telehealth service • Outpatient dialysis service running two shifts over 6 days, • Perioperative Service including a Day Surgery Unit • District Nursing Service • 88 aged care beds including: · 30 Karana beds · 28 Allawah; memory support unit · 30 Warrina; residential accommodation Community Health Programs and Services include: • Cardiac Rehabilitation • Pulmonary Rehabilitation • Generalist Counsellor Services • Health Promotion • District Nursing Service and Community Health Nursing Yarrawonga Health facilitates clinical training for professional entry nursing (BoN & EN, Midwifery) Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition and Dietetics and Podiatry.
___________________________________________________________ Clinical Rotations Available Acute services Medical and surgical unit, rotation can include Operating Theatre, Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, Day Procedure Unit and Dialysis Unit and also the care of palliative patients and their families. Midwifery YH Maternity Services are for low risk maternity clients and include antenatal clinics/consultations, post-natal care and DOM visits. Double-degree graduates will be supported in the ante- natal and post- natal care of mothers, babies and their families. Residential Aged Care Services Allawah Special Care Hostel provides a high standard of residential care for persons with dementia who can no longer be cared for in the community. We are committed to providing residents with a comfortable and secure home environment that will foster independence whilst encouraging social interaction and supportive care. Karana provides a high standard of residential care for persons who can no longer remain living independently in the community. We are committed to providing a comfortable, secure, home environment where the individual needs of residents are addressed in order to maintain their lifestyle at an optimum level. Community Services District Nursing The District Nursing Service is an integral part of the total health care delivery system, providing nursing care and other support to people in their home environment.
___________________________________________________________ Support Offered by Yarrawonga Health The Graduate Nurse program at YH is overseen by the Deputy Director of Nursing/Education, with operational responsibility to the Clinical Support Nurse. The program is in collaboration with the Central Hume Graduate Nurse Program which includes Northeast Health Wangaratta, Benalla Health, Tallangatta Health Service, Mansfield District Hospital, Alpine Health and Cooinda Village, Benalla. There are regular professional development days through the year where graduates from all health services meet as a group. Clinical training champions are also located in all areas of YH. YH has implemented the Best Practice Clinical Learning Environment framework, with an annual review and action plan. Resources The YH Clinical Education Centre includes a tutorial room, computer lab and clinical training room with a range of simulation equipment. YH, in partnership with the Hume Simulation Alliance conducts regular simulation sessions and graduates are encouraged to participate. In addition, YH has NHET-sim trained educators who regularly conduct simulation-based training sessions for staff and students on placement. YH staff are required as a minimum to complete a foundational level of supervision training based on the National Clinical Supervision Competency Resource, over 100 clinical staff have completed this training. Accommodation An eight-bed purpose built student accommodation facility is available at low cost for students on placement. The facility includes a room with access for students with a disability. The facility is located directly opposite the hospital in Lynch St. Graduate nurses re locating to Yarrawonga can apply to access the accommodation for a short period.
___________________________________________________________ Orientation: Graduates will participate in an orientation program with the Clinical Support Nurse on commencement. Graduates will then participate in a unit-based orientation session with their allocated preceptors for the first two days. The Clinical Support Nurse is available for debriefing sessions and any additional requirements of the graduates. Other support: As for all staff, graduates at YH have access to staff trained in defusing techniques, or as required and appropriate the Employee Assistance scheme. Graduate Program 2nd year To consolidate your knowledge, YH offers a second-year program where graduates may complete: First Line Emergency Care Course (FLEC) Triage Workshop Clinical Supervision Introductory Training After your 2nd Graduate year YH offers post-graduate opportunities including: Acute Care Nursing Midwifery Peri-Operative Nursing Gerontology Or other as identified by the learner.
