WORD IN ADVANCE ONLY ~ 90 TIMES GOING TO SLEEP! DEAR LEADERS! Together with 4,000 other participants, leaders and staff you are part of the HOME 2018 Jamboree. The organisation team increases day by day and is looking forward to “day zero”, the arrival of all participants – at last. They are all working meticulously to reach the aim to organise a successful scout camp. THE NAME IS PROGRAMME! > We want to create a home for us all for ten days, where we all can feel comfortable with all our different necessities. > We want to deal with these differences and learn to love the diversity > We want to be good hosts for our guests (coming from the other Austrian provinces and abroad). > We want to provide ten unfogettable days for us all. HOME 2018 is our joint large-scale project and is coming nearer and nearer with giant steps. It doesn’t be- long to the core preparation team but most of all to the young participants and you leaders. All contribute their share: never underestimating the part of the kids and adolescents by their participation with interest, fun and joy. So everytime “we” are mentioned, all participants that spend their time together at the HOME 2018 Jamboree are meant. ACTIVATE YOUR KIDS AND ADOLESCENTS! Now it it is time, to get your kids and adolescents involved. Here and there you’ll find ideas and inputs, how you can make HOME a topic in preparation for the Jamboree. E.g. “homestory”, “eco-challenge”, prepara- tion meeting inputs (CaEx)... Effort of us all for the kids and adolescents will be, to create anticipation, to motivate them and offer intense experiences. Being able to that, scouts proof that at every occasion anyway. Our experience tell us that most of it will work out. With an amount of participants that can be compared with a small town, its only natural that things can go wrong or some small conflictcs can occur. If we try to be tolerant and solve these problems like families do at home, we’ve already won. The positive mood will transfer to the partici- pants and a good vibe is what stays in mind at the end. The well experienced staff members provide organisatory safety and the young creative minds are bubbling over with ideas. We are proud of how creative, intense and motivated preparation is going on. We all can look forward to HOME 2018s. A couple of GuSp-, CaEx- and RaRo-leaders met or meet in May and June already at Scout Camp Austria at a preperation weekend. The invitaions have already been sent out to you and we hope you are motivated to take part . WITH OVERWHELMING JOY LOOKING FORWARD TO A SUCCESSFUL JAMBOREE, YOUR HOMEBASE, THE CORE TEAM HOME 2018.

In August, you can expect sunny, hot days (above 30° C) and occasional heavy summer rainstorms and cold nights (down to 10 degrees). Even if we expect good weather, remember the Scout Moto: Be Prepared! PERSONAL EQUIPMENT You are experienced enough to know, what’s the proper equipment. Most important items are: > warm sleeping bag (see climate) > waterbottle and appropriate sunscreen > waterproof gear, sturdy shoes GROUP-EQUIPMENT You will need to provide your own tentage and cooking equipment suitable for open fires. Our internation- al guests are advised to get in contact with the partnering group in that concerns. The partnering groups are asked to support their forein groups at its best. If you really have no way to organise or bring camping equipment, please get in touch with us via email to material@home2018.at. We can only provide equip- ment in exceptional cases but maybe we can find a way to do that Firewood is provided by us. Any other fuel for camping stoves has to be brought on your own.
Good to know CAMP CONSTRUCTIONS We are glad, if scout typical constructions are built at the Jamboree, regardless if as functional as to be used as cooking place or just to be beautiful. Construction wood is included in the camp fee and every partici- pant is provided 4.5 meters log wood and planks how many as needed (FAIR USE!) We have decided not to give any regulations concerning camp constructions and they will not be inspected by us. The responsibility for secure construction and usage are incumbent to constructor and „op- erator“ – thats why the responsibility for any accidents or consequences. Safety in construction starts in planning, goes over construction, usage (climbing, sitting, ...) and ends after deconstruc- tion. HEALTH VACCINATION Besides the usual vaccinations recommended we would like to point out that there is a danger of contract- ing Tick Borne Encephalitis (TBE). It is strongly recommended to be vaccinated beforehand. More information: Info: tick-borne-encephalitis HEALTH INSURANCE DETAILS Please ensure your participants bring valid vaccination card(s), e-card, or European Health Insurance Card and any needed medications or allergy remedies and relevant medical findings (copies). It’s the responsibil- ity of the leaders, that all information can be provided in case of an emergency in addition to the parental contact possibilities. 10 Good to know VISITOR-SUNDAY Visitors are warmly welcome on visitor-sunday, August 12th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It‘s a great possi- bilty to pesent ourselves. Invite parents, relatives, friends and supporters of your group to nose scouting air and take part at the special programme. Food and drinks are provided in our gastronomy areas. We also ask you to communicate the end of visitor-sunday at 5 p.m., because at that time the participants start preparing supper. Therefore it is useful when the normal daily routine starts again. To help you advertise visitor-sunday we‘ll send you information-postcards in time.. On all other days visiting the jamboree is not possible, because the programme activities are not or- ganized for that and the daily routine of the kids, adolescents and leaders shall not be disturbed. ATTENTION: On visitor-sunday it is not possible to drive onto the campsite too. The parking area is only a few minutes walk away from the campsite. Guides will receive the visitors. For disabled persons we offer a shuttle from and to the parking area. GUEST PARTICIPANTS It is possible to be a short-time-participant. Thats how e.g. leaders or adolescents who cant go to the jam- boree because of job-related reasons can be with you a day or night. Guest participants pay a small guest fee and are being catered by the staff kitchen. Due to organizational reasons guest participants cannot take part at the stage programme. A visit without registration is not possible! (Except on visitor-sunday – during the day, see above). Guest participants must registrate: please before arrival in an email to office@home2018.at (latest at arrival in the office of the camp administration). Guest fee (per day and person): Age without overnight stay with overnight stay below 6 years € 0,– € 0,– 6 – 14 years € 10,– € 15,– above 14 years € 19,– € 24,– SAFETY We have faith in having this big event without critical incidents, but we won’t count on it. Just in case we have prepared a plan of procedures with red cross, fire departments, police and public authorities. All staff members, leaders and participants will be informed about that at the jamboree. And evacuation will be practiced at HOME 2018.
PRoGRAMMe OPEN Pots The age-stages as you can imagine, are working hard on creating their programme. Some parts are sure already, others are just being finalised. An overview of the current status you will find in the stage-own PDFs.. Apart from the subcamp-programmes many offers of the overall programme ensure variety: PROGRAMME AT HOME 2018 JAMBOREE (changes still possible) > Opening and closing ceremony > Theme-rooms (activities in addition to the subcamp-programmes, most of them on the main square) > Live-concert for all participants > HOME-Day with various programme offers concerning the jamboree them > „Evening of open pots“ – look and taste the culinary variety of our HOMEs – for information see page 12 and the PDF of food supply > spiritual offers > sporting challenges and competitions > and of course the visitor-day (Sunday, August 12th 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.), where parents, friends and interested people are invited. HOME-DAY Saturday, August 10th, is HOME-Day. Its the day we can all calm down a little. CaEx and RaRo start their day a little later by having a brunch. On that day you‘ll find time to do things you didn‘t get around to do yet, e.g. a visit of the theme-rooms on main square. Before noon the HOME RUN, a race across the camp site, will be programme. The afternoon we will use preparing for the evening of open pots. And a collective activity will take place at noon exactly: THE HIGH NOON SNAPSHOT HIGH NOON SNAP SHOT (Capture a Moment of HOME 2018) On Saturday, August 11th, exactly at midday we want to document in a collective photoshooting the HOME 2018. Everyone wanting to take part just takes a picture at the same moment – regardless of where she/he is an what you‘re doing. The result will be a extensive snapshot of HOME 2018 which will be exhibited on visitor-day. How that is going to work out you‘ll be explained at the jamboree.
PRoGRAMMe OPEN Pots EVENING OF OPEN POTS Traditionally the “Evening of Open Pots” will take place on Saturday. The Caravelles, Explorer, Ranger and Rover will cook small delicacys of their native kitchens and let all other participants taste. (Of course they will be on “tasting-tour” themselves, too). The Scouts and Guides (GuSp) will be guests too (after they get their own dinner) to taste the diversity of the older stages. Think about what you want to serve the other participants. Consider the following facts: > Amount: Cook for approx. 25 to 30 persons per stage (CAEX and RARO). > Keep in mind, that the food cannot be served at the places it is prepared. > The required groceries can be ordered at once with the menu choice for the whole jamboree online 10th June til 15th July. (look up the food supply PDF) If the ingredients cannot be bought in a supermarket here in Austria, you have to bring them with you. Thanks! > If additional equipment for cooking is needed, contact the international team per email. > Don’t cook too elaborate, so everyone of your group gets the opportunity to go on “tasting-tour” him-/herself. If you have any questions concerning open pots just write an email to the food-supply-team: food@home2018.at The “Evening of Open Pots” is also a perfect occasion to present yourself, your group, your home and country. Whatever you will plan to do so, will have its space in that evening. We are curious on a very colourful evening. Just register in the international tent at the main square of HOME 2018, cause they will coordinate the presentations. YOU WANT TO SHOWCASE YOUR COUNTRY/HOME? You are very welcome to present your country and/or your Scout Group at the HOME 2018. Be creative and surprise us and the other participants. You will have the possibility to present yourself on a small stage at the campsite – e.g. during the evening of open pots or on visitor-sunday. Just register in the interna- tional tent at the main square of HOME 2018, cause they will coordinate the presentations. SPIRITUAL OFFERS On Sunday, August 12th, from 9 a.m. to 11a.m. diverse spiritual offers can be found across the whole campsite. You as group are invited, to make your share. Meditation, celebrations of diverse confessions and religions right up to church service – everything is possible. If you want to arrange such an offer please contact us. The team of „spiri-oasis“ will coordinate and promote it.
PRoGRAMMe OPEN Pots CAMP SONG HOME 2018 has an own camp song too. It’s nearly finished and will be presented at Pentecost. Eight girl guides, one boy scout and 2 profes- sional musicians have been working at two workshop-weekends on text, tune and instruments of the camp song for HOME 2018. Supported by a few professional musicians it was recorded in a studio and in our opinion its really great. You can look forward to that. After Pentecost we will provide an audio-file, the music video and the music sheet/chords on the homepage, so you still got enough time to practice with your kids and adolescents. www.home2018.at/en/song ECO HOME CHALLENGE We invite all participating groups of HOME 2018 to take part in the economic challenge, where cool prizes can be won: 1st prize: € 3.000,– … 2nd prize: € 2.000,- … 3rd prize: € 1.000,– and fur- ther object prizes: The eco HOME challenge How you participate: Register until June 30th 2018 incl. short description of the idea how you want to create your HOME 2018 camp area even more eco-friendly and implement it during the jamboree. From a self built solar system to an idea for waste recycling – there are no limits to your ideas. Taking part is only possible as a group, not as single person. Detailed information can be found in the PDF attached or on our web- 1st + 2 Biolite Camp Stoves site: www.home2018.at/ecohomechallenge 2nd + 2 Biolite Camp Stoves 3rd + 2 Biolite Camp Stoves The eco HOME challenge is a competition of „umWELTdenker“ – a part- nership of the Upper Austrian Scouts and Guides and the ENERGIE AG, who’s also sponsoring the prizes to be won. We wish you creative ideas and lots of luck for the competition. www.home2018.at/ecohomechallenge
PRoGRAMMe OPEN Pots HOMESTORY Show all HOME 2018 participants in a video who you are, how you live and how your home looks like. All participants are curious about you and your group/round/troop. This curiosity can be satisfied quite easily: Record a video together and introduce yourself – where you are at home, how you live, who you are, what you like to do most, what is special of your own HOME. You can do it now or short before the jamboree, just as you like. The only thing you have to do is to upload it to the internet (youtube, facebook, instagram, vimeo …) and send us the link to it.
