Notes Welcome To the Members: As Elders, we want to encourage our members to renew their efforts to carry out the mission of the church at Cary. The recent pandemic could easily have distracted us from the work that we have before us, and we cannot let that happen! It is important that in 2022 we focus on bringing the lost to Christ, strengthening our congregation, and caring for those who are in need. As always, to effectively carry out our mission, it will take the entire congregation. Every one of us has something to offer to the Lord, and we want to encourage you to use your talents in His service. No one is too young or too old to serve God in some way. Our theme for 2022 will be, “REVIVE” (Psalms 85:6). It is our prayer that you will look into the planning for this year and join in the effort of being a church focused on saving the lost, strengthening our congregation, and caring for those who are in need. The time is now! As Jesus said, “look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest” (John 4:35b). Certainly, this is true for the Triangle area. The elders, along with the cooperative effort of all the deacons, our teachers, and the minister, have developed classes, sermons, special studies, events and Bible classes in an effort to have the vision that God would want us to have for the lost and in our relationship with Him and each other. As we plan for 2022, it is our prayer and hope that you will think of ways to be an active part of the work here at Cary. We cannot afford to fall into Satan’s trap of believing that “someone else will do the work if I don’t.” Our mission will take the efforts of each member. It is also our desire for every member to examine your heart and search the scriptures daily...being revived with a renewed spirit of service to God. The guide for daily Bible reading will hopefully assist you in becoming immersed in God’s Word. But it is also important that you find something you can do to encourage some lost soul or encourage someone in our spiritual family -- and then do it! It is through our service to Him that you will put your faith into action and make an impact on those you come in contact with on a daily basis. To our visitors/prospective members: If you are looking for a church home, we can assure you that you are needed here at Cary. There are opportunities for you to use your talents to serve God as we all work together to carry out the work that must be done. The work is organized by the deacons under the leadership of elders with a three-fold purpose: (1) to bring glory and honor to God (2) to organize people and resources to get the job done (3) to provide opportunities for everyone to participate in God’s work. You are wanted here, you are needed here, and you can make a difference right here at the Cary church of Christ. We encourage you to visit our website, www.carycoc.org, to learn more about our congregation and how you can be a part of the work here.. – The Elders 24 www.carycoc.org www.carycoc.org 1 CaryCofC_Workbook_2022_F-paginated.indd 3 12/3/21 1:32 PM

2022 Calendar of Events 2022 Goals JANUARY Your generosity and love for the Lord is seen and appreciated in your 2 – Deacon’s Meeting sacrificial giving. In order to reach our goal this year, the elders are 6 – Live Wires Lunch challenging each family to increase their giving. They are not asking one 8 – Ladies Game afternoon person or just a few families to make up the difference. When we all help and work together great things can be accomplished. Let us all plan and 9 – THRIVE Youth Group | Men’s Bible Study | Ladies Digging Deeper pray about this and pledge to give more this year. 16 – CYP (College Young Professionals) 1. Our number one goal is to bring glory to God by saving as many souls as possible. This was Jesus’ purpose in coming to earth (Luke 19:10) and it is the goal of His body (the church) on Earth today (Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 24:46-47). The tangible evidence that we are being successful is an increased number of baptisms and re-dedications (Acts 2:41; 4:4; 5:14; 6:1; FEBRUARY 8:12). Our goal is to average baptizing at least twenty people per year for 3 – Live Wires Lunch the next five years (100 souls). 6 – Deacon’s Meeting 2. To make the Cary Church of Christ a place where every person who is 12 – Ladies Game afternoon trying to live right, (1 Corinthians 5:2) can feel comfortable in worshiping 13 – THRIVE Youth Group | Men’s Bible Study | Ladies Digging Deeper and serving God (1 Timothy 3:15) regardless of financial background, color, 20 – CYP (College Young Professionals) or ability. 3. To grow as a group more in love with God (Matthew 22:37-38) as evidenced by committed worship, careful obedience, sacrificial giving, steadfast dedication and more thirsty for His Word (Psalm 42:1). We want to develop a deep craving for righteous learning and living (“hunger,” Matthew 5:6). MARCH 4. To be a congregation where each member genuinely loves and is loved 3 – Live Wires Lunch (John 13:34-35). We want to cultivate an atmosphere of warmth, love and 5 – Cary Ladies Day concern so each Christian may reach his/her potential. 5 – Teacher’s Workday 5. To assist and encourage each Christian to remain strong in the faith 6 – Deacon’s Meeting through worship, prayer, Bible study, and singing (Revelation 2:10). 12 – Ladies Game afternoon 6. To be a church where the truth, all of it (Acts 20:27), is uncompromisingly 13 – THRIVE Youth Group | Men’s Bible Study | Ladies Digging Deeper taught (2 Timothy 4:2-5; Galatians 1:6-9) in love (Ephesians 4:15). We must 20 – CYP (College Young Professionals) maintain sound doctrine in both teaching and practice. 28 – Building/Grounds Workday 7. To encourage members from straying. We want to work so that one year or five years from now, none will have fallen away who are part of the church now (Acts 14:22; Romans 14:19). 8. To help each other be accountable with gentleness and respect, we must not be afraid to test all things and hold fast to that which is good. (I Thess. 5:21). 18 www.carycoc.org www.carycoc.org 7 CaryCofC_Workbook_2022_F-paginated.indd 9 12/3/21 1:32 PM
Missions Week 47 Week 48 Acts 11-12 1 Thessalonians; 2 Thessalonians The members of the Cary Church of Christ are blessed by God to be able to support Acts 13-14 Acts 18:19-19:41 many good mission works that are endeavoring to spread the Gospel throughout James 1 Corinthians 1-4 the world. Over the past couple of years, our congregation has been able to greatly Acts 15-16 1 Corinthians 5-8 increase its focus on giving in many ways toward mission efforts. Galatians 1-3 1 Corinthians 9-11 Galatians 4-6 1 Corinthians 12-14 Some of the works that we are currently supporting as a congregation, or the elders Acts 17-18:18 1 Corinthians 15-16 encourage members to support, are: Carthage Church of Christ Week 49 Week 50 2 Corinthians 1-4 Romans 14-16 An established congregation in the town of Carthage, North Carolina, about 50 miles 2 Corinthians 5-9 Acts 20:4-23:35 southwest of Cary. It was just Randy, Acts 20:1-3; Romans 1-3 Acts 27-28 his wife Tifane, and daughter Winna when they started work in 2004. Since that time, Romans 4-7 Colossians; Philemon the congregation has grown considerably (and the Chambers also have a son, Issac, Romans 8-10 Ephesians too)! In the Fall of 2009, they completed construction on a larger church building on Romans 11-13 Philippians their property. Together, they are Hebrews 1-6 Revelation 1-5 coordinating gospel meetings, medical clinics, seminars for denominational preachers, Hebrews 7-10 Revelation 6-11 and supplying tools for native Indian preachers (Bibles, bicycles, study material, etc). Hebrews 11-13 Revelation 12-18 The team also teaches at Karen Primary School, a school for poor area children who 2 Timothy Revelation 19-22 would have no other education, and the Carl Crosser Memorial Institute of Biblical Studies, a preacher training school. Assistance is also given to Violet’s Kids, a foster home for abandoned infants, Harvey Cabe Memorial Children’s Home, as well as the 25 branches of Lahoma Crosser Memorial Tailoring Institute which provides sewing machines and other equipment to train women in tailoring so they can earn enough to support themselves and/or their families. Greater Daytona Church of Christ This is another newly planted congregation, that began in the fall of 2011. Its located in Daytona, Florida and was started by Raymond Sieg and his wife, Teresa. The congregation has recently moved from worshiping in the Sieg’s house, to a new facility located in a nearby mall. More importantly, the congregation is growing to fill the new space! Some the members at Cary may remember Raymond’s father-in-law, Bill Heinzelmann. Bill was a minister at Cary in the late 80s and early 90s. 8 www.carycoc.org www.carycoc.org 17 CaryCofC_Workbook_2022_F-paginated.indd 10 12/3/21 1:32 PM
Week 37 Week 38 Missions, cont. Ezekiel 38-39 Daniel 4-6 Ezekiel 40-41 Daniel 7-9 Jamaica School of Preaching and Biblical Studies Ezekiel 42-43 Daniel 10-12 Ezekiel 44-45 Ezra 1-3 The Jamaica School of Preaching and Biblical Studies exists to train men to Ezekiel 46-48 Ezra 4-6; Psalms 137 become high quality preachers, teachers and Christian workers to meet the Joel Haggai needs of the church not only in Jamaica but to also prepare men and women Daniel 1-3 Zechariah 1-7 all over the world in the church of Christ to be effective servants in the Kingdom. “To teach faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2). Week 39 Week 40 Zechariah 8-14 Nehemiah 11-13; Psalms 126 Latin American Missions Esther 1-5 Malachi Esther 6-10 Luke 1; John 1:1-14 The Cary congregation is excited to be involved with the Latin American Missions Ezra 7-10 Matthew 2; Luke 2:39-52 work of the Forest Park Church of Christ in Valdosta, GA. By partnering in 2010, 2012, Nehemiah 1-5 Matthew 3; Mark 1; Luke 3 and 2014 with this existing missions program, groups of our members have spread Lamentations 3:37-5:22 Matthew 4; Luke 4-5; John 1:15-51 the Gospel and brought benevolence, medical care and encouragement to the Nehemiah 6-7 John 2-4 people in Panama. Week 41 Week 42 Waldron Indian Missions Matthew 8-9; Mark 2 Matthew 13; Luke 8 Jim Waldron has been going to the southern states of India since 1972, and he John 5 Matthew 8:14-34; Mark 4-5 helped to begin a school for married preachers in 1989 in Dindigul, known as the Matthew 12:1-21; Mark 3; Luke 6 Matthew 9-10 Dindigul Bible Institute. Over the next twenty years, more than 850 men graduated Matthew 5-7 Matthew 14; Mark 6; Luke 9:1-17 from the school. In the early 1990’s a number of the graduates wanted to begin Matthew 8:1-13; Luke 7 John 6 preacher training schools in their areas, thus the schools began to multiply. Now Matthew 11 Matthew 15; Mark 7 there are 40 total preaching schools currently in operation. Today, after just over Matthew 12:22-50; Luke 11 Matthew 16; Mark 8; Luke 9:18-27 twenty years, to the glory of God, more than 1,400 Tamil brothers have been trained Matthew 17; Mark 9; Luke 9:28-62 to preach Jesus and Him crucified. Week 43 Week 44 The aim of this work is to train men as Paul did, that is to be tent-making preachers Matthew 18 Luke 17:11-18:14 Married students receive support while in school ($50/mo), and are encouraged to John 9:1-10:21 Matthew 19; Mark 10 learn a trade. At the time of graduation they are given a bicycle ($75). The desire for Luke 10-11; John 10:22-42 Matthew 20-21 the churches of Christ in India is that they not be a glorified welfare program for the Luke 12-13 Luke 18:15-19:48 church in the U.S.; thus only a very few of these graduates receive support from the Luke 14-15 Mark 11; John 12 States, perhaps 5%. The vast majority of them work with their hands to support Luke 16-17:10 Matthew 22; Mark 12 themselves and their families. Yet, this does not mean that the graduates are sent John 11 Matthew 23; Luke 20-21 out and forgotten, but periodically they are supported by a regional or even a state-wide campaign. Week 45 Week 46 Mark 13 Luke 23; John 18-19 Waldron Missions also supports the Pudakothai School for the Blind and Deaf, the Matthew 24 Matthew 28; Mark 16 Angie Greene School for Women, and provides goats and/or cows to indigent Matthew 25 Luke 24; John 20-21 Christian widows and their children. Matthew 26; Mark 14 Acts 1-3 Luke 22; John 13 Acts 4-6 John 14-17 Acts 7-8 Matthew 27; Mark 15 Acts 9-10 www.carycoc.org 9 CaryCofC_Workbook_2022_F-paginated.indd 11 12/3/21 1:32 PM
