C&C held a charity event in Redruth to raise funds for Cancer U K. The theme for the evening was ‘A Rainbow’ and whilst the class waited for instructors, Cynthia and Barrie, to showcase a new dance they had choreographed, they were thrilled to be joined by Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh as they passed Cornwall on their Jubilee Tour. And to their delight they gave an impromptu dance, to honour the Olympics, to the theme Chariots of Fire. What a wonderfull experience. Danson Hotliners The Hotliners are from dance classes held so proud of the dedication, commitment at Crook Log and Erith Sports Centres and energy displayed by the team, all as well as the Adult Education College incidentally are between the ages of 60 and of Bexley. Margaret Cawood from Bolton and Eccleshill recently held their fifth charity event this year. She told us: “We had a lovely day at M.S.Centre Rawdon but it was a bit hot on Saturday and a sloping rough concrete floor but my lovely dancers managed to keep going and then we all enjoyed the barbecue.” 12 • October 2012 www.linedancermagazine.com grapevine etc.indd 1 27/09/2012 12:35

Come Again The Middlewich U3A Linedancers, newly formed in February 2012, were asked to dance in Winsford Town Shopping Centre to mark the opening of a ‘Drop In Centre’ called The Lighthouse for a local Church. Liz Allcock says: “Because they have only been dancing since February and we were asked to dance to some religious music (a challenge for the leader) several members of Sandbach U3A and Sandbach Shufflers LDC joined in to make it a success. Many of the ladies had not danced in public previously but thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we were, in fact, asked to do it again some time.” Hoe Down Maureen and Michelle’s 12th annual Hoe Down at Northycote Farm, Wolverhampton proved to be a fun day of Line dancing in spite of a weather forecast that was enough to deter the most resilient of Line dancers. They told us: “Strong winds and heavy rain were forecast but we went ahead with the event and the weather was much kinder to us than expected. Dancers were able to dance from 12 noon until 4pm before the rain set in and even then, it was not severe. So many stayed to dance the whole of the five hour event up to its conclusion at 5pm. Thank you to everyone who attended. Next year’s Hoe Down is already confirmed for August Bank Holiday Monday, as usual.” ‘The Girls’ taught their dance Scared Of Heights and Michelle even joined in the dancing in spite of the fact that her baby was due two days later. Rene’s Revellers event A social was held in September for Rene’s Revellers, based in York. David Purdy says, ‘We held it at the York Health Service Club. Paul Bailey provided the entertainment and a good night was had by all. 14 • October 2012 www.linedancermagazine.com grapevine etc.indd 3 27/09/2012 12:35
