om . . . Fr the Chaplain What do you think of when someone mentions Thanksgiving? Is it turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy? Is it a cornucopia filled with garden produce? Or is it a picture of the Mayflower, bringing pilgrims to the New World? Whatever comes to mind, one theme remains—it is a time to give thanks. Many of the Psalms remind us to give thanks, such as Psalm 107:1, “O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” What if life has been hard and giving of thanks isn’t easy? The Psalms also include many laments such as the familiar words of Psalm 22:1 where David writes, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me…?” This is the same verse Jesus quoted from as He hung on the cross, (Matthew 27:46). In Psalm 55:6, David writes, “Oh that I had wings like a dove! For then would I fly away, and be at rest”. Here David felt like packing up and leaving his problems behind! While we may feel like running away from our problems at times, the fact is that the problems remain and still need to be dealt with. Though God doesn’t promise us an easy life, He does promise to be with us through life’s difficulties. Isaiah 61:3 assures us that by His Spirit, God will give us “...beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness...” What a wonderful trade-off! So, as we continue through the uncertainties and challenges of life, let’s continue with an attitude of thankfulness, remembering to focus on the One who leads us. Happy Thanksgiving! Peter Berg

Should you be seeing a foot care nurse or going for a pedicure? While both practices offer care for your feet they provide different knowledge and expertise. A FOOT CARE NURSE - is a certified nurse who assists in dealing with a range of foot conditions from wounds, fungal infections, ingrown toe nails and corn or wart removal. Along with trimming and filing your toe nails, they will also look to ensure you have proper circulation and nerve functioning in your feet. Doctors will at times recommend you see a foot care nurse depending on disease or diagnosis, such as diabetes. A foot care nurse DOES NOT provide massage or polish in their practice. An AESTHETICIAN - is certified to help care for your nails (hands or feet), mainly for beauty and therapeutic purposes. An aesthetician will provide soaking and softening to help in the removal of dead skin as well as the trimming and shaping of nails. They will also cut back cuticles and remove undesired calluses. If desired they will also finish your appointment with coloured polish. An Aesthetician DOES NOT have an electric grinder to reduce the thickness of nails, and can only do limited work on nail thickness with a manual, hand file.
