saint kenneth catholic community 14951 NoRTH HAGGERTY RoAD PLYMouTH, MICHIGAN Witness & Worship Belczak’s Bulletin Holy Week was a tremendous experience for me. It was wonderful to see people returning to the practice of their faith – after a long year of absence due to the pandemic. From what I’ve heard in recent days, the entire experience of Holy Week 2021 was special for a number of parishioners, too! Throughout Lent I was inspired by the daily attendance at morning Mass and Friday evening Stations were also well attended. Your faithfulness to the Lord in communal prayer was most edifying. The stories of reconciliation are a Lenten trademark. People who have been away from the Sacrament of Reconciliation for a number of years came back to receive the forgiveness of God Holy Week and Easter were superb – and the crowds were manageable! I would like to acknowledge a debt of gratitude to our musicians, singers, Eucharistic ministers, lectors, ushers, greeters, art and environment volunteers, and our parish staff and maintenance personnel. Silently and unnoticed, all of these generous individuals helped to make the celebrations of Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter tremendous celebrations of faith! Lastly, I wish to offer my kind words of appreciation to all the parishioners who remembered Father George, Father Manny, Deacon Denny and I at Easter with prayers, cards, gifts, well-wishes and delicious homemade goodies. Your generosity made Easter 2021 enjoyable, rewarding, and fattening! Thank you! Any artist who has ever painted a picture or created a sculpture of the Risen Lord owes a debt of gratitude to Thomas the apostle. Thomas wanted an absolutely clear image of the Risen Jesus; he wanted to see and touch the wounds of Christ. Ever since, artists have been in sync with Thomas’ visual and tactile demands and have provided us with many such images. The image of the wounded Lord is not simply a matter of artistic representation or taste. It is, rather, a matter of faith. Lacking those wounds, the risen Lord is not the crucified Lord. Thomas has helped artists and all the rest of us to recognize that before the resurrection there must be death. Second Sunday of Easter April 11, 2021
Belczak’s Bulletin (con’t) page 2 Thomas has helped us feel in our bones that our God is a God who takes human suffering seriously. And out of even seemingly meaningless suffering, our God can bring wondrous significance and new life. The Risen Lord whom Thomas demanded to see and touch is the only Lord worth believing in! That Lord wears the wounds of death yet promises the healing of life. The Lord assures us that our faith in Him is not misplaced, that our hope in Him will be fulfilled, and that loving Him even in suffering is what resurrected life is all about. Like Thomas the apostle, we are a people who seek what he found: a suffering Son, a wounded Lord, a God who knows firsthand our feelings of abandonment and pain. That is a God worth believing in! an easter prayer Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us so much that You sent Your only Son, Jesus, to become one of us, to suffer for us, to die for us, and to rise from the dead, to give us new life. As we celebrate Easter this year, may we reflect on the unending depth of Your love. Help us to share this precious gift with our families, friends, and all those who have yet to learn of the good news of Christ. May the beauty and new life of Spring be a reminder of our new life in Christ. Help us to share Your love with all those we encounter in our daily walk, as we continually strive to serve You in spirit, deed, and truth. Be with us, dear God, and remain in our hearts always and forever. May we find hope in the Cross this day, hope because Jesus is Risen! Amen. Hallelujah! holy Water The Archdiocese has reversed its decision to remove the Holy Water from the fonts in all churches. We will once again have the opportunity to recall our Baptism as we enter and leave the church – by signing ourselves with the water that is blessed. According to scientific research, there is no indication of the spread of the Covid-19 virus through water. As an added precaution, and to further relieve any concern of contamination, the small containers of Holy Water at the doors of the church will be emptied each week, the Holy Water will properly be disposed of; and the fonts will be refilled. easter leFtoVers Q: Where did the Easter Bunny get his college education? Jesus said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Put your hand into my side. Stop doubting and believe." Then Thomas believed! Because the Lord had touched them so deeply, they found it easier to share. The misinterpretation often comes because some say, “That sounds like communism or socialism.” Communism maintains that “What is yours is mine; if you do not share it, I will take it.” The early Christian community said, “What is mine is yours; I will share it.” It is a bit of a different viewpoint. In fact it is stewardship. We must remember that these people knew and were following the Apostles, who received this gift from the Lord: “As the Father has sent me, so I send you. Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins Father Tom, the Saint Kenneth Staff, and the you forgive are forgiven them.” And that is mercy. Health Care Ministry would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our parishioners who have donated blood in 2020. Even through the trying times of dealing with a pandemic, many of you put the needs of those in our community first and shared the precious gift of life. Through you generosity, our parish supplied 273 units of blood. We grew our annual impact from the previous year by 130 units! That’s amazing! God continues to bless our community and it is truly in Living the Gospel that all of you share your time, talent, and treasure with gratitude!
