Winter/Spring 2019 NANTUCKET COMMUNITY SCHOOL EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION The Nantucket Community School’s Early Childhood Education programs are made possible through collaborations between the Town of Nantucket, the Nantucket Public Schools and the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. All of our FREE, exciting and enriching programs for children birth to eight years of age are partially funded through the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement (CFCE) grant. Be sure to join a playgroup, attend a parent education class or come by one of our fun family events! If you have any parenting or brain-building questions about your child, please contact one of our Early Childhood Education Specialists who will assist you or connect you with the pertinent island resource. Our team is here to support ALL island families! PLAYGROUPS REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Registration will be held on Saturday, January 12 at 9:00 a.m. at the Early Childhood Center, in its NEW location at Nantucket Elementary School, 30 Surfside Road. Space is allocated on a first come, first served basis. No registrations will be accepted before this date. While we do our best to accommodate as many families as possible, groups do fill so we often run waitlists. Commitment to your playgroup is essential. Failure to attend for two consecutive weeks without excusing yourself will result in your space being offered to the next family on the waitlist. If you are unable to attend registration, you may have a friend register for you. We ask that you sign up for one Playgroup per family, and if space becomes available in an alternate group, we will also offer that space to you. We strive to build a foundation of comfort, knowledge and respect of the water where swimmers will develop skills starting with the basic understanding of acclamation, floating and breathing. There are four levels offered to target individual needs in two age group categories. They include Introduction to Water Skills (Level 1), Fundamental Aquatics Skills (Level 2), Stroke Development (Level 3) and Stroke Refinement (Level 4). If you are looking for a particular week and time and the class is full, please add your swimmer to the waitlist.
