Watch a Chaplin classic at the Playhouse Thanksgiving weekend. . . A fter Thanksgiving dinner and Black Friday shopping, end your holiday week with a Sunday afternoon at the movies! On November 28th at 2:30 p.m., we will be screening Charlie Chaplin’s 1925 classic, The Gold Rush,, which “charts a prospector’s search for fortune in the Klondike and his discovery of romance” with live accompaniment on our Mighty Wurlitzer theater pipe organ. In his journey hoping to strike it rich, the Lone Prospector (Chaplin) encounters many obstacles including a grizzly bear, an outlaw, hunger and the powerful force of Mother Nature. “Featuring timeless gags as the dance of the dinner rolls and the meal of boiled shoe leather, The Gold Rush is an indelible work of heartwarming hilarity” (criterion. com). With a cost of over $900,000, Chaplin spared no expenses. It was the film that Chaplin stated he would most like to be remembered by and remains “one of cinema’s enduring classics, starring, written, and directed by the twentieth century’s first media superstar.” (tcm.com). Accompanying the film is organist Russ Peck. Mr. Peck currently performs at San Diego Symphony Hall/Jacobs Music Center for their silent film presentations and is house organist at San Diego’s Balboa Theatre. In addition to being an organist, he is principal timpanist for the Tifereth Israel Community Orchestra. Visit missionplayhouse.org for ticket information and what to know before your next Playhouse visit. We recommend purchasing your tickets in advance at our Box Office open Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. If you wait until the day of the show to purchase tickets at the Box Office, please come early. Our Box Office opens 90 minutes before a show begins. www.sangabrielcity.com 9 Winter 2022
