MOVING FORWARD Council of the Township of Spallumcheen has taken steps to help the community prepare for wildfires moving forward Working with the Agricultural community to address the unique challenges they face during emergency situations Collaborating with other local governments and first nations Hosting information sessions with representative from BC Wildfire and the Ministry of Agriculture Researching and applying for grant funding to support emergency preparedness
MOVING FORWARD Township of Spallumcheen has been awarded $35,000 in funding under the Community Resiliency Investment Program 2022 FireSmart Community Funding & Supports Program to undertake the creation of a Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan

Roles and Responsibilities 1. If your property is under Evacuation Alert, activate your emergency plan • Don’t wait for an Evacuation Order to start preparing Property Owners 2. Roles and Responsibilities During a wildfire emergency, the Township may, as required: Municipal Resources Activate an Emergency Operation Centre Declare a State of Local Emergency (SOLE) Apply through Emergency Management BC (EMBC) for a Provincial Emergency Program (PEP) number Request funding or resources from the Province Issue Evacuation Alerts and Evacuation Orders in consultation with and on the best professional advice of BC Wildfire Communicate with Provincial resources, Local resources, Media, the Public Protect Municipal assets

Media Releases • Media Releases are sent to over 50 organizations including radio, print media, TV media and online media • Each Media Release is numbered / date & time stamped • Each Media Release will tell you when the next release will be 72 Media Releases were issued by Spallumcheen issued and the impacts to our community during the White Rock Lake wildfire

Bulletin Board at the Municipal Hall • Media Releases along with other pertinent information is posted outside the municipal hall 24 hours a day • The board is updated real time throughout the day • Current status of any evacuation alerts or orders is also posted

Website During an emergency, from our website front page you will be able to access: • Any Evacuation Alerts or Order • Media Releases • An interactive evacuation map showing alerts and order zones During the White Rock Lake wildfire Spallumcheen had over 138,000 views on our website in one week.

Community Meetings/Round Tables • Township Council meets often with our residents, businesses, developers and during an emergency is no different • During the White Rock Lake Fire the Township hosted a Farming Round Table to work through agricultural challenges facing our community. • Continued community meetings and round tables focusing on preparation have been hosted
Communications How to GIVE information to the Spallumcheen EOC • If there is not an activated EOC, you can reach the Township by: • Email – mail@spallumcheentwp.bc.ca • Phone – 250-546-3013 • During an emergency event when the Township has activated an EOC, you can also: • Email the EOC at spallumcheeneoc@spallumcheentwp.bc.ca • Call the EOC at 250-306-7422 *Calling the EOC is not a replacement for 911. In the event of threat to life or imminent emergency, always call 911.
