Full Subject Based Banding (SBB) With Full SBB, we are moving towards one secondary education, removing the labels of streaming classes into Express, Normal Academic and Normal Technical. Instead, within one class, there will be students from all 3 streams with different subject bands, to better meet our students’ learning needs. This is part of the broader shift in our education system to recognise the strengths and interests of our children, to help them build their confidence and develop an intrinsic motivation to learn for life. For Secondary 1 students joining our school in 2021, form classes will be set up with the spirit and intent of SBB and incorporating learners of different profiles. There will also be some subjects like Physical Education, Art, Music, Design and Technology, Food and Consumer Education and Character and Citizenship Education that will be designed to deliver a common learning experience for all, and in doing so create a valuable setting for students to mingle, build meaningful friendships, and appreciate different perspectives. 15
Personalised Digital Learning Programme (PDLP) By March 2021, our Secondary 1-3 students will own a school-prescribed personal learning device under phase 1 of the National Digital Literacy Programme. In our school, this learning device will be in the form of a Chromebook. The school has ensured that the device will not only be affordable, but will also be effective for use in teaching and learning. Students can pay for the device through their Edusave accounts in addition to the school subsidy. More details will be provided in January 2021. The school will teach students the productive use of software to learn for work and for daily living, across different contexts. Students will use the device in tandem with the Student Learning Space (SLS) and other education technologies to personalise and enhance their learning. By using SLS and other relevant technologies such as Microsoft Teams, the school hopes to enrich the classroom experience, where technology serves to facilitate the interaction, the discussion and in making student thinking visible. The aim of learning through a digital device is to complement regular classroom teaching by giving students more voice, and make learning become more collaborative. It is hoped that through these interactions students will internalise their lessons, and achieve the intended education outcomes. To ensure that each Chromebook is secure, we have installed lockers in each classroom and students will be given a personal locker to store their valuable items like their Chromebook and handphone. Students will, however, be required to purchase their own lock. 16
