Sidewalk Celebration 2021 West Meadowbrook Neighborhood Association in cooperation with Fort Worth Police Department hosted a bike rodeo, walk and roll, and community celebration on Saturday, May 15, at Oakland Lake Park. Community residents gathered to recognize the construction of a paved perimeter sidewalk in Oakland Lake Park, a project that has been pursued for more than two years. Approximately 30 children joined volunteers for the bike rodeo, along with FWPD Mounted Patrol, Medstar Safety Clowns, One Safe Place, the Parenting Center, and Scouts of America. WMNA's goal is to build on the success of this event in future years. The Sidewalk Celebration coincided with the WMNA annual picnic and was the official reopening of in-person events post pandemic. Feedback Needed on Bus Rapid Transit Each member has an opportunity to provide input into planning for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) proposal. Trinity Metro announced last year that they have selected East Lancaster (the city's highest bus ridership route) for the first leg of a BRT system. The city received a $600K grant from the Federal Transit Administration to begin planning, and that money was used to hire several consulting firms to produce a plan with citizen input. FTA consultants just finished a website and are soliciting Eastside residents' input online and in two upcoming meetings. Please visit Advancing East Lancaster for more information and to register for June public meetings.
