Starting off…
                Many questions
                & many pathways

                - What do you want to do?

                - Is it about a problem related
                  to practice and/or your
                  development?

                - Why?

                - What do you want to
                  achieve?

                - Do you have a timescale?

Determining what is research…

Designed and conducted to generate generalisable or
Research transferable new knowledge to answer or refine relevant
                                  questions with scientifically sound methods

Designed and conducted to define or judge current
     Service
care/services and whether they are achieving their
    Evaluation
                                                 intended aims

Designed and conducted to examine practice/services
Clinical Audit against predetermined standards to inform delivery of
                                                  best care

Designed and conducted to measure care/services, take
    Quality
specific actions to improve and monitors ongoing
  Improvement
changes against agreed standards or benchmarks

Commonalities Differences
Addresses defined questions
                              Intent
Involves data collection to
                              Governance requirements
answer questions
                              Scale/scope of the work
Use of a systematic
approach/methodology
                              Patient choice
Similar methods can be used
                              Applicability
e.g., interviews, surveys,
clinical measures etc
