Why Give Hope Habitat? 100% of your sponsorship goes toward the 2020 Give Hope Habitat Build in Jackson. When you designate your sponsorship to the 2020 Give Hope Habitat Build, 100% of your gift directly supports the new house construction project in the Northwest School District to benefit a local family. The community benefits from your generosity. • Homeowner mortgage income is recycled back into Habitat’s building program and will be used to kick off the next new home build. • Habitat spends $200K annually in the local economy purchasing goods and services. • Annually, Habitat homeowners and Greater Jackson Habitat pay $55K in property taxes. Your gift has generational impact. • Habitat homeownership fosters long-term financial stability. • Habitat homeowners have the opportunity to plan and pay for higher education, retirement and other important fiscal goals. • The stable and healthy environment of a Habitat home improves chronic health conditions like asthma, enhances educational performance, and fosters community. Give Hope has inspiration in Jackson. Give Hope Disaster Relief trips began in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina hit, and were student driven. Since then, over 800 high school, college students, and chaperones from Jackson County have travelled the country helping local and national charitable foundations in disaster areas. Over time, we have helped in a number of areas, including New Orleans and other areas in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, (Portland) Michigan, Illinois, Texas, and Florida. While on site, we help with debris removal, and construction/reconstruction of homes. Our goal is to help in any way possible in an area of need. Many of our volunteers have dedicated years of their lives to helping others. These 800 volunteers include chaperones Pennie and Doug Atkins, who combined to participate in 29 trips. In December 2019, Doug lost his life in a car accident. In order to honor his legacy, we are working to build a Habitat for Humanity home in the Atkins’ honor in the Northwest School District.
