REAL ESTATE TAXES The Western Mall is located in the city of Sioux Falls and the county of Minnehaha. Real Estates in Minnehaha County and the state of South Dakota are paid in arrears. For example, the real estate tax bills relating to 2020 are paid in 2021. Taxes in South Dakota are due and payable on the first of January following the assessed year. However, first half tax payments are accepted through April 30th without penalty. Second half of taxes will be accepted through October 31st without penalty. The State of South Dakota operates on a fiscal year that begins on July 1st and ends on June 30th of the following year. Final property tax statements are typically sent out in the late fall, ahead of the January 1st due date.
