A parish mission is for everyone. “It surprises a lot of people how much younger people really enjoy mission,” Fr. Ron says, “The mission experience is one of Scripture, laughter, reflection and prayer. It is designed to draw people into a deeper relationship with Jesus; an excellent opportunity for anyone struggling in or questioning their faith.” Fr. Hoye is a member of the Congregation of the Mission, also known as the Vincentians. He has been leading parish mission for more than 15 years to parishes all over the United States and Canada. His missions blend humor, story, and spiritual reflection in a 50 minute presentation that appeals to all ages. Fr. Hoye was born in Marin County, California in 1961, the 2nd of three boys. He grew up in a farming community near St. Louis, MO and was greatly influenced by his mom (a nurse) and dad (a surgeon) whose lives were about helping and caring for others. His vocation began in high school when he met a Vincentian priest at his local parish and began discerning a call to serve God as a priest. He was ordained in 1991 and has taught Business Ethics and World Religion classes at DePaul University in Chicago, served as a parish priest, Vocation director and has been heavily involved in youth and young adult programs across the country. Currently Fr. Hoye is director of Catholic TeamWorks, a global program of Leadership and Evangelization Outreach. Fr. Hoye enjoys the outdoors and loves to travel. He just published his spiritual book of reflections entitled, “AWAKE.”

This course will be done in two parts, first covering the Book of Daniel for 4 weeks, followed by 4 weeks on the Book of Revelation. Please join us for this new class. To register call the parish office at 310.476.7403 or email to rsvp@saintmartinoftours.com Part 1: The Book of Daniel invites the reader to explore a unique chapter in salvation history. Today’s Christians can feel intimidated by society’s increasing disdain for religion, something which Daniel understood all too well. God’s faithfulness to Daniel during his persecutions and sufferings is the same faithfulness he offers us today. Daniel is thus a very timely book for today’s Christians, reminding us of the unchanging nature of God’s love and fidelity, even in the midst of darkness. Part 2: Fr. Alfred McBride, O. Praem. sets the record straight with an authentic Catholic interpretation of the Book of Revelation. He gives you three keys to understanding the Book of Revelation and offers sustaining hope for Christians who have experienced or will experience the trials and persecutions that have always accompanied the Church. In addition to discussing the end of the world, Fr. McBride presents authentic Catholic teaching on topics including the Rapture, the "mark of the beast," the Antichrist, the thousand years of peace, and the Unveiling the Apocalypse. This week we continue to view “Entertaining Angels” - The Story of Dorothy Day Social Justice Corner The Link Between Mass Shootings and Abortion: How Can We Get This So Wrong? It would never have occurred to me to draw a link between the horrific school shooting in Florida last week and abortion, but apparently, I have been remiss in seeing how the pro-choice crowd may or may not connect the two. The teenaged gunman who killed 17 and injured at least 13 others at a Florida school was an adoptee as an infant. One reporter proclaimed that if the mother had aborted him instead of giving birth and putting him up for adoption the incident would not have occurred. Her tweet, “Woman puts baby up for adoption, he grows up to be a violent young man who will spend the rest of his life in prison for a mass murder. Tell me more about how abortions are wrong,” she wrote Thursday. Read more about this truly twisted logic here: https://www.washingtontimes.com/.../ex-mtv-reporter-blames -fla-massacre-lack-abortion In speaking about gun violence and more legislation limiting guns after the Florida shooting, the very popular Californian, Sen. Kamala Harris, had this to say, “When you see the effect of this extreme violence on a human body and especially the body of a child, maybe it will shock some people into understanding.” There seems to be a true disconnect for staunch pro-choice advocates like Harris between a baby before birth and after, even up to delivery. She continued her comments by saying, “And we cannot tolerate a society and live in a country with any level of pride when our babies are being slaughtered.” More details available here: http://www.lifenews.com/2018/02/20/senator-kamala-harris-protests-the-slaughter-of-babies-in-school-shooting-but- supports-abortion/ We all must advocate for life, born, unborn, old, infirmed, mentally or physically challenged. Let those among us without sin cast the first stone in discarding the life of anyone. Please pray for those with pro-choice, pro-assisted suicide viewpoints every day; our strongest ally in changing hearts and minds is the Holy Spirit. ~ Erin Lynch, Respect Life Ministry Coordinator SMT Children and Youth Faith Formation Sunday School - Child care with faith stories, crafts and activities. COME LET US WALK TOGETHER St. Dominic on Meeting St. Francis of Assisi “You are my companion and must walk with me. For if we hold together no earthly power can withstand us.” As we follow the Way of the Cross on Friday, March 9th, we will pray the Stations of the Cross as celebrated at the Dominican Monastery in Detroit, Michigan. St. Dominic founded the Dominican Order of Nuns in 1206, prior to the establishment of the Order of Preachers aka the Dominican Order. St. Dominic saw the need for an organization to address the spiritual needs of the growing cities of the time; one that would combine dedication and education. The Nuns are women who spend their lives striving to live in the constant memory of God. They work diligently, studying the truth, searching the Scriptures and praying intently. Their joy is rooted in the Gospel. In praying the Dominican Stations of the Cross you will discover their love of Jesus, and share with them the suffering and sorrow which Christ endured so that he could gain for us the opportunity to reach heaven. “Oh my God, fill my soul with holy joy, courage and strength to serve You. Enkindle Your love in me and then walk with me along the next stretch of road before me.” ~ St. Benedicta of the Cross - Maria Alcalde Fridays During Lent Catholic social teaching inspires and guides how we are to Please note the new times live and work in the world.
