The Yacht Club Gaeta Egeo Vittorio Simeone with the support of the Sezione Vela Fiamme
Gialle, Circolo Nautico Caposele, Circolo Nautico vela Viva, Lega and Club Nautico Gaeta, is pleased to announce
our availability to organize the Formula 18 World Championship 2020. Our management has considerable expe-
rience and confidence in the organization of international sailing events such as Star Class World and European
Championship,the Rolex Volcano Maxi Race, 470 Masters World Championship and European Championship, and
Melges 32’ and Melges 20’ Series, Farr40 Series, Formula 18 Italian Championship, as well as several National races
of Olympic Class Italian Championship. Participants have been particularly pleased with the hospitality, and the
technical level of the race courses ensuring a very high level of racing. The race village there will be set up inside the
Port located in the heart of the town of Formia, and is able to offer large areas for the parking of boats, trolleys,
tenders, caravan and containers.
Inside the Regatta Village will be realized a large restaurant and bar, relax area, toilettes, changing rooms, Race
Office, Race Committeee office, Jury room, Press room, etc. that have satisfy the requirements of participants and
sponsors of events hosted by our Club. The positioning of Formia offers easy access from Rome and Naples Interna-
tional Airports,
as well as excellent train connections. In Gaeta there is a harbor for commercial ships making it possible to organi-
ze the logistics and custom services in the event you are shipping your boat and equipment in.

From Rome-Fiumicino “Leonardo da Vinci” Airport (150 km- 94 mi) by train:
take the fast train inside the Airport to Rome “Termini Station” - trains leave every half hour.
From Termini Station take the train heading to Formia - trains runs every hours.
By car: Drive SS 148 heading to Formia or take the Tollway A1 heading to Cassino. From Cassi-
no SR 630 Ausonia heading to Formia. From Rome-Ciampino Airport (Km 150): small airport,
low cost flights -
By train:
Bus from Ciampino Airport to Rome “Termini Station” leaves every 20 minutes. Trains
heading to Formia runs every hours.
By car:
Drive A1 /E45 heading to a Cassino and SR 630 Ausonia from Cassino to Formia.
From Naples - Capodichino International Airport (80 Km- 50mi).
by train: bus (Alibus) from the Airport to Naples main station “Stazione Centrale” leaves every
30 minutes. Trains from Napoli Centrale Station heading to Formia runs every hours. by car:

FORMIA is about 80 kilometres from Naples and 120 kilometres from Rome,and has excellent train connec-
tions. Overlooking the Gulf of Gaeta, Formia is surrounded by Aurunci Mountains. It has almost 37,000 inhabi-
tants and is easily accessible by an efficient road and railway system.
The beauty of the coast, the mild climate, and the marvelous beaches and bay, as well as the interesting
archaeological sites, offer the opportunity for sailors and their families to spend a great holiday in Formia and
the nearby Gaeta.
The bay of Gaeta is well known to sailors for its natural shelter made by the arc of its gulf, offering a secure
refuge to seafarers traveling along the Tyrrhenian sea. The view from the sea is remarkable for its beautiful
combination of natural and manmade elements developed throughout the course of history.
The town of Formia was heavily damaged during the Second World War, in 1944. Yet recent restoration works
allow the appreciation of a remarkable artistic heritage, which stirs up the emotions.
Formia is one of the oldest towns of the South Pontine Area. Its name derives from the Greek hormiai (landing
place) which, according to the legend, was one of the places where Ulysses’ ships docked and set sail with the
presence of Lestrigoni (ancient cannibal giants) on board. Formia keeps several and remarkable testimonies
of its past and it has been appreciated as tourist destination from the Roman to Middle Ages, as the ruins of
many villas testify.
The most famous guest of the town was Marcus Tullius Cicero. He was the owner of a villa called
Formianum.During the Civil War, supervised the political actions of Rome from the Formianum. Cicero was
later joined by his wife Terenzia and his daughter Tulliola, who, according to the tradition, is buried on the
slope in front of her father’s tomb. In 43 BC, Mark Antony’s hired assassins murdered Cicero.To visit:

Nearby to Formia, in the bay, there is Gaeta the city that gives its name to the gulf. Lovely city.
Gaeta is a picturesque town in the Lazio Region in Southern Italy. It was in the middle ages that
Gaeta, built upon the extreme headland of the rocky promontory, started playing a lead role over a
large territory, creating an autonomous and independent Dukedom.
The presence of the huge historical buildings originated during that age, and still offers a great skyli-
ne view, characterized by the Mausoleum of Roman Consul Munazio Planco located on the top of
Monte Orlando Hill, as well as the Aragonese and Angionian Castle along with many monumental
churches spanning the centuries.
