● Seniors need to join the Class of 2022 Google
  Classroom. The code to join is: pveojiz.
● Seniors need to regularly check their school
  email. They need to read any email sent by
  Ms. Martin (martinl@fcpsk12.net).
● Important Senior information and information
  regarding Senior events are communicated
  using Google Classroom, email, and Rapid
  Communication messages to parents.

GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS
   AND CAP & GOWN ORDERS
● A Senior Class meeting will be on Monday, October
  25th during 2nd Block.
   ○ Information will be shared from Herff Jones
       regarding graduation announcements and cap
       and gown orders.
● Herff Jones will be at MHS on Thursday, November
  4th and Friday, November 5th during lunch periods
  for orders.
● Herff Jones will also be at MHS on Thursday,
  November 4th from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. for orders.
● Orders can also be placed online.

•   Complete an Advanced Placement (AP) course, Honors
    course OR earn a CTE credential

•   Complete a Virtual Course - requirement is met through
    Economics/Personal Finance course

•   Training in emergency first aid, CPR, and the use of AED -
    requirement is met through Health II/Driver’s Education
    course

•   Demonstration of the 5 C’s - students shall acquire and
    demonstrate foundational skills in critical thinking, creative
    thinking, collaboration, communication, and citizenship.

VERIFIED CREDIT REQUIREMENTS
• What is a verified credit?
   • The successful completion of the requirements of
     the course and a passing score on the end of the
     course Standards of Learning (SOL) test.

• Students are required to earn the following verified
  credits:
   • 2 English (English 11 Reading and Writing)
   • 1 Math (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II)
   • 1 Social Studies (WHG I, WHG II, US History)
   • 1 Science (Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry)

SENIOR CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS
     AND INDIVIDUAL MEETINGS
● School Counselors will be conducting presentations
  through the English 12 classes beginning on Monday,
  September 27th.

● School Counselors will meet individually with the
  Seniors on their caseloads and review the following
  information:
    ○ Diploma requirements for graduation
    ○ Postsecondary plans
    ○ Spelling of first, middle, and last name for diploma
      and graduation program

● A letter will be mailed home to parents after the
  individual meetings take place.

  schools, certificate program, apprenticeship
  program)

• Military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines,

ASVAB
• Armed Services Vocational Aptitude
  Battery (ASVAB)
   • multiple-aptitude battery that measures
     developed abilities and helps predict
     future academic and occupational
     success in the military
• Millbrook will offer the ASVAB this school
  year. It will most likely be in January or
  February. Please watch for information
  regarding a test date and sign-up
  information.
MILITARY RECRUITER AND
COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVE VISITS
● Visits typically take place between 11:00 a.m.
  and 1:00 p.m.
● Visits are held either in the Library or in the
  School Counseling Office.
● Visits are posted on Student Announcements.
● Students can sign up to attend the visits by
  seeing Mrs. Renner in the School Counseling
  Office.
   ○ Students receive a pass to attend the visit.
   ○ Students are responsible for school work
      missed during the visit.

    graduation. Mrs. Post can help with:
     ○ Career Assessment - Helping students identify potential career
        opportunities
     ○ College Exploration - Working with students on the process of identifying
        post-secondary options. Work with students on application process as well
        as financial aid assistance
     ○ Lord Fairfax Community College - Helping students with applying to LFCC
        and getting ready for their first year with scheduling of orientation, identifying
        programs of interest
     ○ Job Shadowing Opportunities - Providing opportunities for students to
        shadow individuals in potential careers of interest

RESEARCH ADMISSIONS AND
   APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
● Identify the colleges/universities that you plan to
  apply to and review the following information on the
  admissions websites.
   ○ Admissions requirements
   ○ Application requirements
   ○ Deadlines
   ○ Online application (Do they use their own
      application, the Common Application, or the
      Coalition Application?)
   ○ Online forms required for the application, such
      as secondary school report forms
EARLY DECISION, EARLY ACTION, REGULAR
   ADMISSION & ROLLING ADMISSION
●   Early Decision
     ○ Binding
     ○ Deadline is earlier

SECONDARY SCHOOL REPORT FORM

● Form completed by school counselor.
● Includes information about the high school’s
  academic program and grading system.
● Includes information regarding student’s
  G.P.A. and class rank.
● Usually includes letter of recommendation by
  the school counselor.
● Student needs to contact the school
  counselor at least two weeks prior to the
  application deadline to request that they
  complete the secondary school report form.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
 ● If letters of recommendation are required,
   determine how many are required and ask
   teachers, counselors, club sponsors, coaches, or
   administrators to write them.

 ● Ask recommenders at least 2 weeks prior to when
   they are needed.

 ● Provide a copy of an activities resume to
   recommenders or share it with them in Google.

 ● Most college applications allow recommenders to
   submit letters of recommendation electronically.
ESSAY/PERSONAL STATEMENT
● Complete it if it is optional.
● Colleges usually provide questions or
  topics.
● Don’t stray from the question or topic.
● Be yourself.
● Check for spelling and grammar
  mistakes.
● Don’t exceed the word limit.
● Ask someone to proofread and provide
  feedback.
SUBMITTING SAT AND ACT SCORES
● If you are required to submit SAT/ACT scores to
  colleges, you will need to request official test score
  reports from SAT/ACT.

● If you have not yet taken the SAT or ACT or you plan
  to retake one or both, you can request that your score
  reports be sent to colleges/universities when you
  register. There is no fee to send your scores to four
  colleges/universities at the time that you register.
  There is a fee to send scores after you have taken the
  tests.

SUBMITTING AP EXAM SCORES

● If you have taken AP Exams and you would
  like to send AP Exam score reports to
  colleges/universities, login to your College
  Board account at www.collegeboard.org.

● You will need to send official AP score
  reports if you want the colleges/universities
  to consider awarding college credit.
THE COMMON APPLICATION
●   Identify the colleges/universities that use The Common
    Application.
●   Create an account with The Common Application
    (www.commonapp.org) and complete the application.
●   Your school counselor and other recommenders will
    complete the required forms online.
     ○ Go to the My Colleges tab on the application.
     ○ Select the Invite and Manage Recommenders
        tab.
     ○ Complete the recommender information and select
        the Send Invite tab.
THE COALITION APPLICATION

● Identify the colleges/universities that use the
  Coalition Application.

● Create an account with the Coalition Application
  (http://coalitionforcollegeaccess.org/) and
  complete the application.

● Your school counselor and other recommenders
  will complete any required forms online.
PARCHMENT
● Parchment (www.parchment.com) is the online
  system that students will use to request that their
  official transcripts be electronically submitted to
  colleges/universities.
● Students received their Parchment access codes via
  email from Mrs. Van Meter in August.
● Students who have not yet created their accounts will
  receive their Parchment access codes during the
  classroom presentations.
● Students will be using Parchment to order their
  transcripts when they initially apply to
  colleges/universities, to send their mid-year transcript
  once 1st Semester grades are finalized, and to send
  their final transcript to the college/university they plan
  to attend.
PARCHMENT
● Students need to enter a personal
  email address, not the school email
  address when they register for
  Parchment. Students need to access
  Parchment after they graduate.

● Students need to place an order in
  June for the final transcript to be sent to
  the college/university they are
  attending.
PARCHMENT
REQUESTING LFCC TRANSCRIPTS

 ● Students can access unofficial transcripts by logging into
   their MyLFCC account

 ● Official LFCC transcripts need to be requested through
   Parchment
NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER
● Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center at
  www.eligibilitycenter.org
● Registration is required if students plan to
  participate in a sport at a Division I or Division
  II college or university.
● Notify the school counselor and the Registrar
  if you register.
● Request that transcripts be sent to NCAA
  through Parchment.
● Request SAT/ACT scores be sent to NCAA
  through student’s SAT/ACT accounts.
FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION
● Types of Federal Financial Aid:
    ○Grants
      ■Do not have to be repaid
    ○Federal Work-Study Programs
      ■Money earned while in college
      ■Does not have to be repaid
    ○Loans
      ■Borrowed money that must be paid back
       with interest
FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION
● FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student
  Aid) https://studentaid.gov/
  ○ It is free to apply. Do not pay an
     organization to submit the FAFSA for you.
  ○ Can be accessed beginning October 1,
     2021
  ○ Check college deadlines and/or priority
     filing deadlines
  ○ List all of the colleges to which you are
     applying for admission.
  ○ Contact the colleges’ financial aid offices.
  ○ Complete the FAFSA even if you think you
     will not qualify for financial aid.
SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
● Scholarship opportunities will be ongoing throughout the
  school year.
● A list of scholarships will be posted on the MHS School
  Counseling website throughout the school year.
      ○Go to the MHS website.
      ○Click on School Counseling.
      ○Click on Scholarship Opportunities.
● Information and applications will be available in the School
  Counseling Office.
● Information will be posted on Student Announcements.
