Registration Process All students register through Skyward -All students: 7.5 Credits (Core & Electives) -All students: 2 Alternate Classes (choose classes you want to take!) -Use KHS Course Selection sheet & Course Selection Book found online to guide your selection process -Math recommendation required
What classes should I take? Required Classes: -English: English 9 -Math: Algebra or Geometry -Science: Biology -Social Studies: World Cultures & Connections or Advanced Placement World Human Geography -Physical Education: Phy Ed 1, Phy Ed 1 (Choir) or Phy Ed 1 (Band) -Health: Health Your required courses total 5 credits. You will need to register for a total of 7.5 plus 2 alternate classes
What classes should I take? Follow the course planning sheet for the class of 2020 - Graduation Requirements - 4 Year Plan - Post-Graduation Planning (Start to think about it) - Follow course planning sequence under each department -Explore areas of interest -Laude and/or AP Courses - Check prerequisites - Talk to teachers - Talk to counselor - Wiscareers
Graduation Requirements English: 4 Credits Math: 3 Credits Social Science: 3 Credits ( required: Gov & Law or A.P. equivalency and passing grade on civics tests) Science: 3 Credits (required: Biology and Chemistry , Physics or Astronomy/Earth Science) Physical Ed: 1.5 Credits Health: 0.5 Credit Personal Finance: 0.5 Credit Other Electives: 8.5 Credits Total Credits: 24 Credits **KHS Requirements vs College/Tech School Requirements**
What Does this Mean? Required Courses: Classes that are required for graduation as set by the state and/or school district. i.e. English, Math, Science, Phy Ed, etc. Electives: Courses that are not required by the state or school district. The courses enhance your education and focus on your interests/career aspirations (can be in core areas). i.e. Spanish, Choir, Art, Technology & Engineering, etc. Prerequisites: Course need to take prior to electing this course. All classes with a prerequisite are listed in the coursebook (noted with * on course selection sheet). i.e. “Outdoor Power & Motorsports” requires “Small Engines” first. Can register for the same year Transcripted Credit: “Articulated Course” agreement with MPTC. Completion may earn credits for corresponding class at MPTC. Noted in Course Book and as “TC” in Skyward
Do I need to take Spanish? UW System: - UW Madison: Two years of one foreign language required - UW Milwaukee, UW Parkside, UW Platteville: Foreign language is not required but is strongly recommended. Foreign language credits earned in high school help satisfy the school’s foreign language requirement for graduation. - UW La Crosse: Average applicant has three years of foreign language. It ALWAYS depends on your career aspirations

Freshman Warm-up Days When: August 16th & 17th, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Why: Students will enjoy presentations on topics such as: ● the first day of school ● the high school “Social Do’s and Don’ts” and “Lunchroom Use 101” ● how to read my schedule, find my classes, and use my locker ● how and why of using skyward student access ● getting involved...athletics and clubs, and much, much more ● buddied with a mentor Cost: $6.00 if you are choosing to purchase a 2020 Spirit Wear T-shirt to be turned into the KMS office by May 15, 2016.

Club offering FHA/HERO In this club students gain skills related to Family and Consumer Science. ● We meet 1 to 2 times per month. ● In December we sponsor Breakfast with Santa ● On Wednesday afternoons we offer refreshments during the Community Theater Groups gatherings ● Moneys raised are both toward Scholarships offered at the end of year for continuing education in the Family and Consumer Science Fields.

Why get a Global Education Achievement Certificate (GEAC)? Employers and Universities are looking for people who can: 1. communicate effectively with anyone from any background 2. see and understand the world from a perspective other than one's own 3. understand and appreciate the diversity of societies and cultures.
How do I get the GEAC? 1. Credits a. 4 years of Spanish b. 4 credits of classes with Global Focus 2. Cultural Literacy a. Reflect on 8 works of international media 3. Cultural Activities a. Reflect on 4 cultural activities 4. Service Project a. Complete 20 hours of service

Art Survey Prerequisite for most art courses • If you are interested in taking numerous art courses throughout high school – we recommend taking Art Survey as early as possible in your high school career so that you do not get stuck with a lot of overlap in scheduling where courses do not fit in your scheduling process – this gives you the most time possible to then fit in all art classes you are interested in taking over the course of 4 years.
