4/19/2021 Out now: your latest DARTP news! Welcome from your chair I hope you are all doing as well as you can given the difficult circumstances that we are all currently teaching under or trying to research under. During the first lockdown, I was part of the BPS Covid-19 response team looking at different ways to support colleagues during the pandemic. If you haven't already done so, there are a number of really useful documents on the BPS website that are well worth a read. In my other role as chair of the Standing Committee for Psychology Education in schools and colleges, which is now part of DARTP, I proposed that we create a 'Teachers' Toolkit' of teaching resources to support teachers of psychology. We created the first batch of materials in collaboration with the Education Training Board and those resources are now available on the BPS website. More are in the pipeline. I am currently in discussions with OFQUAL regarding the 2021 A level examinations. It's going to be very challenging to ensure that the exams are fair and equitable given the wide disparity of access to education that students have had during lockdown and the current disruption still being caused by the pandemic. However, please be assured that discussions are on-going and I will do my very best to represent both teachers and students. We are always focused on how we can support our members, so please feel free to contact me if you have any ideas about how DARTP can support you further, whether this is lobbying on issues around psychology education and training or research or ideas for CPD or anything else, please let us know. Sad news I was very sad to hear the news that Paul Humphreys, past committee member of both DARTP and SCoPTE had died. Paul was a fierce supporter of the pre-university sector and was involved from the very early days in the creation of the A level in psychology and served as chief examiner for AEB A Level. He wrote a number of textbooks and most recently wrote a book tracing the history of A level psychology, which had its 50th anniversary last year. https://mailchi.mp/b41f8504d4f1/out-now-your-latest-dartp-news 1/5
4/19/2021 Out now: your latest DARTP news! Paul brought his wealth of experience to the committees and was never afraid to put his point across. He held the role of Honorary Secretary for the division between 2015 and 2019 and was a board member of the Psychology Teaching Review. He frequently represented DARTP at the Association for the Teaching of Psychology annual conference, where he staffed the exhibition stand and brilliantly engaged with teachers about the BPS and how to get chartered status through the teaching route. I will also remember him for his kindness and his sense of humour and our thoughts are with his family at this time. Psychology of Teaching Review The next issue of the Psychology Teaching Review is focusing on online teaching. If you would like to submit a paper, the deadline is 7 January 2021 and more information can be found on the publications section of the BPS website. Take care and wishing you all a restful Christmas and New Year.
