AWA R D W I N N E R S – S P E C I A L R E C O G N I T I O N SUE MCFADDEN – 2020 Sue McFadden was not born thinking “I hope I grow up to work in the Insurance field.” Luckily for Iowa dentists she did just that! During her career, Sue has held many positions in the insurance industry – human resources director, travel coordinator, payroll administrator, etc. Eventually, she fell into the Dental Professional Liability Area and this has been her niche for the past 30+ years. Sue truly enjoys helping dentists. She started her own agency in October of 2000, after the passing of her dear, beloved boss, Mr. John Reno. McFadden Insurance Services has won more than nine awards during this period, but none compare to the honor received when named the Preferred Provider of the Iowa Dental Association. Sue feels extremely fortunate to absolutely love what she does for a living, and finds helping dentists extremely rewarding. She has attended every Iowa Mission of Mercy and has enjoyed each and every one of them. Sue says her daughter summed it up nicely during the very first IMOM - when Sue told her it was truly amazing - her response was “Mom, is it really amazing or is it just amazing because you are working with the dentists you’re crazy about?” When Sue is not working she loves spending time with her three beautiful daughters and nine awesome grandchildren. After earning two degrees from Iowa, Dr. Harvey—who served for a decade in the Army National Guard—practiced dentistry in Michigan. Through her work at Broadlawns, she ensures future generations of dentists will have a solid understanding of the dental and health disparities facing Iowa’s low-income populations. Dr. Harvey has been married for 33 years and they have two daughters, Hannah (20) and Hadley (14). She is active in many community organizations and serves on the Advisory Committee for the Oral Health Iowa Coalition, the Mid-Iowa Health Foundation and Children and Families of Iowa Board of Directors, and the University of Iowa Alumnae Leadership Council. FRIDAY, APRIL 29 DR. LOU GRAHAM IMPLANTS: THE RESTORATIVE SOLUTIONS AND CHALLENGES LONG TERM (3.0 CEUS) 8:00 to 11:30 AM Location: Grand Ballroom B Face the truth, not every implant is placed in the ideal position, and not every patient has the ideal setting for the final restoration. The challenges can be so many such as access via limited vertical opening or limited vertical interocclusal distance or even tissue challenges and proximal issues to name a few. Is this complicated? Heck no, but to think, “oh, I just will take an impression and let the lab decide or the surgeon,” simply isn’t the reality today! SPONSORED BY Whether to utilize the traditional single screw one-piece approach, the cementable crown, or even the combination termed the hybrid approach, are all viable options in implant dentistry. As a restorative dentist, you must understand your options for long- term success. Treatment coordination and planning for optimum results often involve superior diagnostics utilizing CBCT imaging, and the latest options in digital scanning for communication with both the patient and lab. It’s 2022, let’s get up to date with today’s technologies and expectations! ENHANCING YOUR DENTAL PRACTICE THROUGH CBCT TECHNOLOGY (3.0 CEUS) 12:30 to 4:00 PM Location: Grand Ballroom B For over 100 years dentistry has been reliant on 2D imaging. Today’s diagnostics have shifted 2D imaging to far more specific indications versus the one thought of universal imaging diagnostic instrument. Diagnostics today include a vast arsenal of technologies that include: fluorescence, transillumination, and CBCT. These technologies become essential in far superior diagnostically driven decision-making along with new protocols in our offices today. This course is all about the why and how to incorporate CBCT imaging into your dental practice and all the benefits included, and yes, even the financial ones! LIZ NIES YES, THE THREE-LETTER WORD WE LOVE TO HEAR BY OVERCOMING THE FOUR-LETTER WORD COST (1.5 CEUS) 8:00 to 11:30 AM Location: 312 – 315 Practicing dentistry in 2022 by delivering the highest quality of care is not as easy as it sounds. If case acceptance is based on the lowest treatment cost or on what insurance covers, our treatment, and our success will be limited. If team members struggle to present the cost of dental treatment to patients, patients can’t make informed decisions. SPONSORED BY This could be why half of Americans have chronic periodontitis. Many of them don’t even know they have the disease. Interestingly, patients will pay for the treatments they want, but, all too often, they are hesitant to spend money on the treatments they truly need. Let’s give them both: treatments they need and want. The right approach can communicate both. View speaker bios on the IDEAS22 website: ideas.iowadental.org/ideas22-courses IDEAS.IOWADENTAL.ORG 23
