Fran & Phil Itkoff’s family moved to Lakewood in 1963, which soon included their son, Michael and daughter, Ellen. They were happy to be so close to a Temple, then known as Temple Beth Zion-Sinai. Both children attended Sunday School the family continued to be active in all Temple activities. Fran continued to be involved at Temple even after Phil was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and had to retire from his Optometric practice. They both helped with activities such as Pu- rim carnivals, Hanukkah celebrations, New Year & Yom Kippur services, student ac- tivities and more. After Phil passed away, Fran continued to be active in many of these activities. She has continued to keep the Multiple Sclerosis Support Group go- ing monthly and has stayed active in the Lakewood Women’s Club. She is currently the Secretary for Shir Chadash’s Board of Directors and always willing and able to help with any Temple activities when needed and is a friendly greeter at all times. Samantha Hamilton, daughter of Robert and Elle hamil- ton, and Grandaughter of Fran Itkoff, made Sectional times in 5 events at the Elite Swim Meet. She got 8 med- als and 9 best times. She swims for Goldenwest Swim Club. She will also be competing for a second year in the JCC Maccabi Games, this year in San Diego. She also will be playing Greta Thunberg in a new Feature Film. She made the Gold Honor role at Rogers Middle School, and has a straight A 4.0 average for all middle school years. She was just accepted into her 1st choice program (Arts) at Wilson High School! Samantha is also excited to be joining the Sea Cadets. Way to rock Sammie! (right: pic- ture of Sammie with her 8 medals and Head Coach Tracy) Sammie has also joined the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets in Seal Beach on Feb. 24th.
