The WMGF The Washington Men’s Gymnastics Foundation (WMGF) works as the financial backer for the team. It promotes the program and raises funds for the team. When the University dropped Men’s Gymnastics funding in 1980, coaches volunteered their time to keep the team going. In 1994, the WMGF formed to formalize this tradition. Since then, we have transformed the program into a goal-oriented, thriving and stable organization consisting of former gymnasts, friends of gymnastics, and parents. Our goals include short-term annual fundraising as well as long-term goals such as developing a robust recruiting process and building our own junior program. Other activities include running the annual Washington Open, publishing regular newsletters, maintaining the team web site, operating a scoring service for other meets, offering scholarships to the team’s gymnasts, and coordinating other fund-raising activities. We achieve all this through volunteers who meet monthly to accept new tasks and plan future actions. If you’re a gymnast or parent, I urge you to consider joining our board. You’ll have the chance to continue gymnastics with a spirit of dedication and volunteerism that builds a strong body and strong principles. Please call or email me if have further questions: 773-543-1938 or coach.giancarlomora@gmail.com If you’d like to help us with a donation, please visit http://wmgf.us/donate/. Sincerely, Giancarlo Mora Head Coach Washington Men’s Gymnastics The Team Dear Parents and Gymnasts, Let’s face it, gymnasts are unique athletes, and there are limited opportunities for high school gymnasts to continue development of their strength, skills and teamwork. HUSKY SEASON PREVIEW Another exciting competitive season has already begun. Our Intersquad which was held a few weeks ago on December 14th, 2019 gave us a preview of what the new season will bring. During that competition, the guys put a lot of energy and passion towards their routines earning a total of 385.623 points. That was a hit percentage of 89.20%! This is already impressive but we will keep working hard towards our goal of breaking 90% during this season. With your support and enthusiasm, it could be at this very Washington Open where we might just do that! Indeed, there is a lot of talent returning to the team, starting with both our team captains Ben Bloom from Mill Valley, CA (senior) and Alex May (junior) from Highlands Ranch, CO. They were elected by their peers to be at the front of the pack. Jacob Jarrett from Shreveport, LA, Conner Petellin from Coeur D’alane, ID, Daniel Gordon from Seattle, WA, are the other three seniors in our squad. Alex Forcos from Snohomish, WA and Zak Kuest from Marysville, WA sums up our junior class this year. Sophomores Kyle Hendren from Battle Ground, WA, Michael Sloat from Portland, OR, Perry Lightfoot from Huntington Beach, CA, Oscar Hemmert from Seattle, WA, Connor Pattison from Melbourne, Australia, and Jared Danek from Antelope, CA complete our returning team for the season. This already strong team was joined this September by Adam Kerwin from Renton, WA, Parker Calomiris from Petaluma, CA, Brody Lusk from Spokane, WA, Jameel Ali from Burlington, Ontario – Canada, Joseph Mischke from Minneapolis, MN, and Luka Sisauri from Colorado Springs, CO. It does not look like this freshman class will wait patiently for their turn to compete and they promise to challenge for a spot in the line-up from the very beginning. I urge you to stay tuned on all our social media: website (www.wmgf.us), Instagram (@washingtonmensgymnastics), and Facebook (@washingtonmensgymnastics) for team updates, news, and even live streams from our meets. On Feb 8th we will travel to the Golden Gopher’s house in Minneapolis for a head to head against 9th ranked Minnesota. We will wrap up the season competing against Stanford, SoCal United, Air Force Academy, and Springfield College before USAG Collegiate Nationals on March 27th – 28th at Tempe, AZ. In the meantime, I want to thank you for being here supporting our team. This home meet has been a highlight for our team for many years because the house is packed with Husky fans like you. Arizona State University, NorCal United, and SoCal United are joining us to kick off this exciting and loud season. So, please enjoy and help us be loud! Giancarlo Mora, Head Coach
