March 2021 Volume 4, Issue 1 Website: www.moanamedicalcentre.com.au Newsletter/Information Sheet Welcome to our Autumn newsletter. The prospect of cooler days and nights is certainly a welcome one. As you are no doubt aware, the federal government is rolling out the COVID-19 vaccines from March. As a practice, we decided to opt in to the rollout and have been approved to partici- pate; we will be on-boarded from the week after Easter. Initially there is a shortage of supply, and as this newsletter is being prepared, we have been informed that the clinic will only be receiving a very small number of doses each week until such time as more vaccine becomes available. It is likely that dedicated vaccine clinics will not be possible until we are able to reliably source more stock. In the meantime, we are yet to decide how to prioritise the small amount that we will have. Once we are able to reliably receive larger numbers of vaccines, we intend to set up dedicated clinics and patients will be informed. The vaccine is a two dose course, 12 weeks apart, and the initial target group is people aged over 70, people with specific chronic diseases, defence and police force workers, fire and emergency service workers, meat processing and health care workers . Fluvax time is almost upon us also, and it seems that we will be running these clinics at the same time as the COVID-19 clinics. There needs to be a gap between each vaccine of two weeks. It will certainly be a challenging time for the practice co-ordinating the clinics and ensuring that the vaccines are given to each eligible patient, willing to receive them, at least the minimum two weeks apart. We should have more information to hand about both vac- Inside this issue cines availability in early April, so please check with reception then or discuss with your doc- tor.
