VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 HOW CAN A SUCCESSFUL PRIVATE-PUBLIC PARTNERSHIP CONTRIBUTE TO TRADE FACILITATION IN TIMES OF UPHEAVAL? WHICH ROLE CAN THE DIGITISATION OF TRADE PROCESSES PLAY? The Virtual High Level Forum 2020 ‘Digital Solutions for Trade Facilitation’ will take place on 3 to 4 November 2020. The ‘German Alliance for Trade Facilitation’ is a public-private partnership with the aim at making international trade faster and simpler. We combine the strengths of companies, business associations, and governmental institutions. In its numerous trade facilitation projects, the Alliance engages where business and government interests match. At the Virtual High-Level Forum 2020 of the Alliance, experts from companies, business associations as well as governmental and international institutions will share their insights on #DigitalSolutions for international trade. Partners of the Alliance will discuss their experiences and challenges in facilitating trade during these uncertain times. The event builds on the first High-Level Forum of the German Alliance for Trade Facilitation during which in September 2019 more than 100 high-level representatives from government and business came together at the Museum for Communication in Berlin under the motto “Rethinking Trade Facilitation”. → www.tradefacilitation.de → LinkedIn

VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 1 Dr Axel Klaphake Director Economic and Social Development, Digitalisation Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Axel Klaphake is an economist and political scientist by training (University of Cologne, Université de Clermont-Ferrand) and holds a PhD in Environmental Man- agement and Planning from the Technical University Berlin. In his further career, he worked mainly on issues linked to economic development and the sustainable management of natural resources holding jobs with several research institutes, think tanks and consulting companies in Germany, USA, and Brazil. He joined GIZ in 2007 as an adviser to the Federal German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development on G8 issue and water and infrastructure development in Afri- ca. From 2009–2017 he worked as a head of regional and bilateral programmes in Uganda and as the GIZ Country Director in Uganda and Ethiopia. VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 1 Dr Ceren Erdogan Project Lead Alliances for Trade Facilitation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Ceren joined the GIZ Alliance team in March 2020 and is the project lead for the Alliance projects in → Thailand and → Indonesia, as well as the → DGMT partner project in Cambodia and Sri Lanka. Prior to that, she worked as a project planning advisor for GIZ evaluating and setting up GIZ’s development projects in the area of trade all over the world. Ceren holds a PhD in International Economics with her area of exper- tise being trade facilitation and regional economic integration in de- veloping countries. VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 2 Dr Jan Hoffmann Chief, Trade Logistics Branch, Division on Technology and Logistics United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Jan joined UNCTAD in 2003 and became Chief of the organization’s Trade Logistics Branch in 2016. Previously, Jan spent six years with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago de Chile, and two years with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London and Santiago. Prior to this, he held part time positions as assistant professor, import-export agent, seafarer, translator, and consultant. For eight years, he also worked part time for the family tramp shipping business Hoffmann Shipping, based in Horneburg, Germany, with a tweendecker registered in St. Johns, Antigua and Barbuda. Jan has studied in Germany, United Kingdom, and Spain, and holds a doctorate degree in Economics from the University of Hamburg. VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 3 Kathinka Kurz Head of programme develoPPP.de Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Kathinka Kurz is a graduate in business administration with a finance master’s in risk and asset management, who brings along a wide range of professional experience. Kathinka Kurz passed through various departments at GIZ, including corporate strategy. Prior to GIZ, Kathinka worked in the public sector at the World Bank Group as well as in the private sector, among others, at a FinTech startup and in investment banking at Morgan Stanley. VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 1 Michael Krake Deputy Director General Private Sector, Trade, Employment, Digital Technologies German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Michael Krake is Deputy Director General at the Federal Ministry for Economic Co- operation and Development (BMZ). He leads the directorate “Private sector; trade, employment; digital technologies”. Over the last 15 years Michael Krake has served in various functions for the German Government. As Head of Political Staff he led the Ministry’s divisions responsible for strategic planning and policy analysis, communications and relations to parliament and cabinet. As Head of Development Cooperation he worked at the German Em- bassy Kampala/Uganda for three years. For two years he worked in Nairobi/Kenya as a consultant and BMZ’s regional Coordinator on drought resilience at the Horn of Africa. Before joining BMZ he has worked as management consultant for McKinsey& Compa- ny. VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 1 Michael White CEO and Head of TradeLens Mike is Chief Executive Officer for the GTD Solution and the organization that leads the TradeLens collaboration team. Mike White built his career at Maersk and prior at P&O Nedlloyd, joining the organization in 1990 before the company was acquired by Maersk in 2005. For nearly two decades, he has held several leadership roles across many geographies. Prior to his current role, he served for 8 years as Presi dent of Maersk Line’s liner business in North America. Prior to this, he was Chief Executive for Maersk Line Central Europe managing activities for 12 countries. Mike graduated from Virginia Wesleyan College in 1981, and has attended several execu- tive programs at Harvard Business School and IMD Business School in Switzerland. VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 1 Pha Engveng Deputy Director General General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, DDG Mr. Engveng is the Deputy Director General for the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, the lead secretariat of the National Single Window and the lead of Customs Automation Team. During his career, Mr. Engveng has devoted himself for customs modernization and automation. He leads in several of big ICT projects for trade facilitations and logis- tics in Cambodia such as Customs Clearance System – ASYCUDA, Cambodia National Single Window – NSW, ASEAN Single Window – ASW lead in Cambodia, and some other Customs systems. VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 3 Philipp Kruschel Head of Secretariat German Alliance for Trade Facilitation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Philipp heads the Secretariat of the Alliance for Trade Facilitation. In his previous positions at GIZ, he directed the Emerging Market Sustainability Dialogues and acted as a senior advisor in the business unit for global partnerships and emerging economies. He also managed a trade pro- gram in Nepal. Before joining GIZ in 2007 in Uganda as a junior profes- sional, he worked at various UN organizations, the World Bank and sev- eral German Federal Ministries, as well as in the private sector. Philipp has lived, traveled and worked in a number of Asian, African, European, and North and South American Countries. VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 3 Pramod Bagalwadi Chief Executive Officer DHL Global Forwarding, Sub-Saharan Africa Pramod Bagalwadi was appointed CEO, DHL Global Forwarding, Sub- Saharan Africa, in April 2019. Prior to this appointment, he was Head of Industrial Projects (IP), Strategy and Customs Clearance Brokerage (CDZ) for DHL Global Forwarding’s business in Sub-Saharan Africa. From 2014 to 2017, he was the CEO of DHL Global Forwarding in East Africa as well as country manager for the business in Tanzania. Mr Bagalwadi brings with him over 25 years of experience in logistics and supply chain man- agement having worked in India, Middle East and Africa. VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 2 Rose Chepchirchir Ronoh Director Trade Facilitation Kenya Trade Network Agency (KenTrade) Rose Chepchirchir Ronoh is a International Trade Professional with over sixteen years work experience drawn from both public and private sector in Kenya. She is the Director of Trade Facilitation at Kenya Trade Agency Network (KEN- TRADE). Further, she is the Chairperson of the Information and Transparency Sub-Committee of the National Trade Facilitation Committee. Her previous work experience includes the position as Corporate Communications Manager at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Regional Marketing Officer at Kenya Power, Brand Manager at the Standard Group (KTN/Standard) and Head of Marketing and Communications at Vaja’s Manufacturers Ltd. VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 1 Shamika N. Sirimanne Director, Division on Technology and Logistics United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Ms Shamika N. Sirimanne is the Director of the Division on Technology and Logis- tics of UNCTAD. She supervises UNCTAD’s largest technical cooperation pro- gramme, ASYCUDA—the Automated System for Customs Data. Ms Sirimanne has extensive experience in development policy, research and technical cooperation gained from international organizations, national governments, think tanks and universities. Prior to UNCTAD, she served as the Director of the ICT and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). Prior to that, Ms Sirimanne was with the UN Economic Com- mission for Africa (ECA), where she led the economic policy team and the Eco- nomic Report on Africa, the flagship publication of ECA. He served in several units (such as press office, public relations, Migration and Devel- opment). VIRTUAL HIGH LEVEL FORUM 2020 → SESSION 3 Steven Pope Head of Go Trade Deutsche Post DHL Group Steven has been at Deutsche Post DHL for 9 years, starting in 2011 as VP Customs & Regulatory Affairs, Europe and Head of Trade Compliance for Europe, the Middle East & Africa at DHL Express. He then moved to Deutsche Post DHL Group Head- quarters in Bonn as Group Head of Trade Facilitation, (GoTrade). Before joining Deutsche Post DHL, Steven spent 26 years in the Public Sector, working for HM Cus- toms, HM Treasury, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the IMF. Steven sits on a number of public/private trade advisory groups and think tanks including the Steering Group of the German and Global Alliances for Trade Facilitation.
