A new Debneys Park
We want your help to develop a new
plan for Debneys Park and Flemington
Community Centre.
Debneys Park is a much-loved community gathering
space in Flemington. However, significant population
growth is expected and we need to work now to
ensure this doesn’t place pressure on the existing
facilities, which are nearing the end of their useful life.
Based on your feedback, we’re developing a plan
for Debneys Park and a concept design for a
community hub to replace the existing Flemington
Community Centre.
The new facilities will help cater for future demand
and provide the community with high-quality
social, educational, recreational and
environmental opportunities.
Revitalising the Debneys Park precinct is a
priority in our Advocacy Strategy.

active, vibrant and welcoming gathering space. We need your help to achieve this.”

Be safe over summer
We’re expecting a hot summer, so remember to
stay safe in the heat.
Here are some simple steps you can take when extreme
heat hits:
• Drink water even if you don't feel thirsty.
• Never leave kids, adults or pets in hot cars.
• Find somewhere air-conditioned to stay, draw your
blinds, use a fan or have a cool shower.
• Schedule activities in the coolest part of the day and
    avoid exercising in the heat.
• Look after those most at risk, including neighbours
who live alone, the elderly, children, people with a
    medical condition and pets.

Visit mvcc.vic.gov.au/heatwaves for more information.

“We’re always striving to ensure Moonee Valley remains a place where our residents feel

     IN FOCUS

Field of dreams becomes a reality
We’ve worked hard to secure $100,000 from the State Government to help build the Chris
Lane Memorial Junior Baseball Field at Boeing Reserve in Strathmore Heights.
The little league baseball field will be the first of its kind in Australia and will honour the memory of local
Essendon baseball player Chris Lane, who was tragically killed in the United States in 2013.
We applied for the grant through the State Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and
have also secured $130,000 from Major League Baseball (US), $12,500 from Essendon Baseball Club,
and a commitment from Musco Lighting Australia to provide lights for the field. We’ve already invested
more than $100,000 into the planning and design of the field.
It’s set to be a time of major change at Boeing Reserve, with works almost finished on the new
multipurpose pavilion, which is expected to be completed in February 2019.
