On behalf of the Urology Care Foundation Board of Directors and the
American Urological Association (AUA) Research Council, we are proud to
recognize this year’s Urology Care Foundation Research Awardees through
this special electronic publication. The core of the Foundation’s mission is
to support and improve urological care by funding research, supporting
global humanitarian efforts, developing patient education and pursuing
philanthropic support. The pages that follow demonstrate our strong
commitment to this mission and acknowledge the outstanding investigators
engaged in Foundation-supported research. We also thank our donors,
industry partners, research institutions and mentors for their critical and
essential support. To that end, we invite you to join us in celebrating our

JOHN W. DUCKETT, JR., MD PEDIATRIC UROLOGY RESEARCH EXCELLENCE AWARD Stuart B. Bauer, MD I am so humbled to receive this award from the Urology Care Foundation. To be recognized by colleagues and friends for all my efforts over the 47 years of my career is very meaningful. Having John Duckett’s name applied to the honor makes it even more poignant. I knew John and always admired how he inspired young people to look, to ask, and to think about how we could solve problems in order to improve the lives of children with urological conditions. Thank you for this honor. RICHARD D. WILLIAMS, MD PROSTATE CANCER RESEARCH EXCELLENCE AWARD Gerald L. Andriole, MD Many thanks to the Urology Care Foundation and the American Urological Association, and to my colleagues and collaborators, for this recognition. It is especially meaningful to me in that Dick Williams was a personal friend and role model. I learned much from him, not just about prostate cancer, but also about life, scholarship and mentorship.

I am most honored and grateful to the Urology Care Foundation for this
recognition. It reflects accomplishment that owes to the scholarship
opportunity that I was given by the Foundation early in my career. This
opportunity was fundamental in my initiating and sustaining a meaningful
academic career. I owe thanks also to the many colleagues, role models and
mentors, whose guidance and support have been crucial to my development
and direction as a scientific investigator. Through many, I have learned that
scientific progress comes about through commitment to good scientific work,
collaborative ventures and dedication to our patients.

Rosalyn M. Adam, PhD
I am immensely thankful to the Urology Care Foundation and the urologic
research community for this wonderful recognition. I am truly humbled
to receive the award, given the past recipients and their extensive
accomplishments. I would like to thank my postdoctoral mentor Michael
Freeman, who provided not only moral support during training, but also
an experience with opportunities to carve my own path. I would also like
to acknowledge my many other informal mentors and role models, too
numerous to mention by name, who have provided guidance, advice and
opportunities along the way. Finally, I’m deeply appreciative of the many
wonderful trainees I’ve had the pleasure to work with over the years – their
energy and enthusiasm is a source of ongoing inspiration.

I am extremely honored to be receiving such an important award. I
want to thank everyone at the Urology Care Foundation and AUA for
providing me the opportunity to undertake this exciting project. I want to
sincerely thank my mentors: Dr. Zhou Wang and Dr. Laura Pascal, for their
professional guidance and mentorship. I also owe great thanks to my
family for their support and love. Without their understanding I couldn’t
overcome several challenges on my way here. I also want to deeply thank
my dog for his emotional support. Thank you!

I am grateful, and truly humbled, to be selected as an Outstanding
Graduate Scholar by the AUA and the Urology Care Foundation. Thank
you for the support, and for the inspiration and energy to continue this
body of research. My research efforts were only possible due to the
unwavering commitment, patience, and guidance of my mentors: Dr. Min
Dong, Dr. Rosalyn Adam, and Dr. Carlos Estrada. Additionally, I would
like to thank my colleagues in the lab for educating me. This is merely
the start of an exciting journey, and I could not be more thankful for the
great foundation this award has provided.
