Lori Branstrom Memorial U.P. Classic Rules & Regulations 1. Eligibility: This show is sanctioned by MI Shows Points and is open to all youth from any state that are between the ages of 8 and 21 as of January 1st, 2021. All cattle must be solely owned by the exhibitor making the entry. All animals MUST be shown by the exhibitor that is on their registration papers and by whom they are entered under for the show in order for MI Show points to be counted. The Heifer show is an open show with no age restrictions. 2. Entries: Entry fees are a non-refundable $40 for each animal entered. Entries must be made online ONLY and must be submitted on or before June 1, 2021. T-shirts will be included with all entries made on/before the June 1st deadline. Late entries are $60 per head and will not be guaranteed a T-shirt. Late entries will be accepted up until the end of the designated check-in times. Check-In: Check-in of cattle will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for heifers on Saturday. Exhibitor packets will be distributed at check in. Registrations must be present at check-in. All registered cattle must have tattoos that correspond with the registration papers. All steers, market heifers, and commercial heifers will be weighed at check-in. Registration applications, faxes or photocopies will not be accepted. Only original registration papers or digital registrations will be accepted. All animals not matching the registration paper have the opportunity to show in the commercial heifer class or the crossbred market steer class. Market heifers that wish to show in the Market Show as well as the Heifer Show must be entered and pay entry fees twice, one for each show. There will be no re-weighs. Heifers do not have to be checked in prior to showmanship on Saturday. All cattle must be removed from the UPSF by 8 p.m. on Sunday June 20th. 4. Once checked in, animals are NOT allowed to leave the grounds. Unless approved by the show committee. If any animals are removed from the grounds without prior approval from the show committee the animal will be disqualified.
5. Exhibitors have to clean their own stall in the barn before leaving. You are also responsible to clean up your fitting area outside. Failure to do so will result in a $50 fine and/or not being welcomed back to future shows. No cattle are permitted in the barn until 12:00 p.m. on Friday. This is subject to change due to Coronavirus and state regulations. 6. Facility Rules: Fans will NOT be allowed behind the cattle or in the aisles. They MUST be suspended overhead. Maximum of one fan per three head of cattle allowed. Electrical power is limited; we encourage the use of generators, but they will not be allowed in barns. Dogs are NOT permitted in the facility at any time during the event, with the exception of service animals. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. 7. Showmanship: All exhibitors are welcome to participate in showmanship. Showmanship will be conducted Saturday after the conclusion of the Market show with 30 minutes in between. Participants can sign up for showmanship during check-in on Friday for $5 or Saturday morning before the market show in the show office. There is no cost for Pee Wee showmanship participants. The order will start with pee wee showmanship followed by Seniors (18-21) Intermediate (15-17) Junior (12-14) and Beginners (8-11). Exhibitors MUST show their own animal or will be disqualified. 8. Grooming Regulations: use of false tail heads or the adding of hair is prohibited. NO FORCED administration of fluids to create gut fill will be allowed. Violation will result in the disqualification of the entry and the exhibitor, along with any other entries the exhibitor has for the show. Fitting of animals is the showman’s choice. 9. Dangerous Animals: Animals must be under control of the exhibitor at all times. Removal of an animal deemed dangerous will be at discretion of the show committee. If an animal gets loose three times in the show ring and or makeup area, the exhibitor and the animal will be excused from the ring/make-up area. 10. Responsibility: The Lori Branstrom Memorial U.P. Classic show committee, show, and The U.P. State Fairgrounds are not responsible or liable, either directly or indirectly, for any injury to animals, or death thereof. The Lori Branstrom Memorial U.P. Classic show committee shall
not be responsible or liable, either directly or indirectly, for any loss or damage to personal property, or for personal injuries suffered on the premises in connection with the show. 11. Photography Release: All pictures or videos that are captured by the Lori Branstrom Memorial U.P. Classic show committee may be used by the Lori Branstrom Memorial U.P. Classic show committee for promotional or other consideration. Completing the entry form constitutes a full release to the Lori Branstrom Memorial U.P. Classic show committee of official pictures or videos of you or your animal’s likeness. 12. Disputes/Protests: To file a formal dispute or protest one must pay $100 and fill out a dispute/protest form in the show office. Resolution of all disputes and protests are the responsibility of the show committee. 13. COVID regulations: Every exhibitor will have to sign a release form at the time of packet pick up. You will not receive the exhibitor packet unless this form is signed and on file. The fairgrounds and the show committee will not be responsible for anyone who falls ill due to attending the show. Attending the show will be at your own risk. Masks MUST be worn in the show ring, make up area, and in the main arena building. The show committee and fairgrounds will be allowed to change/release new rules regarding the COVID regulations if it is necessary. 14. The Lori Branstrom Memorial U.P. Classic is sanctioned with the MI Shows Points Program and will be abiding by their guidelines. 15. All rules are subject to change if necessary at the sole discretion of the show committee. Health Requirements 1. All Cattle must be dehorned if the horn length is greater than two inches. 2. Cattle that are infected with a communicable disease may not be brought to the show. To meet the health standards required to show, animals need to be free of illness including but not limited to: Clinical signs of respiratory disease (watery eyes, nasal discharge, elevated temperature, excessive
slobbering,) Active ringworm and/or warts, and any identifiable external parasites. 3. Evidence of surgical, conformation or any other unethical alterations will result in the animal and exhibitor being disqualified from competition. 4. Castration procedure must be completely healed showing no signs of swelling, discharge or decay. 5. All cattle participating in the 2021 Lori Branstrom Memorial U.P. Classic must be tagged with an official electronic identification (RFID) tag approved by the Michigan Department of Agriculture. 6. Health Certificates are required for out-of-state cattle and must comply with the State of Michigan health requirements. 7. Animals not meeting these standards are to be removed from the facility immediately upon notification to the exhibitor and/or parents to retain his/her ability to exhibit in future shows. TB Test Requirements All Michigan cattle participating in the 2021 Lori Branstrom Memorial U.P. Classic must have an RFID tag. Neither an official USDA alphanumeric metal ear tag nor an official breed registry tattoo will be accepted in place of an RFID tag. Please refer to the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development website for the most up to date requirements at www.michigan.gov/mda-exhibitinfo. All Michigan Cattle regardless of the age must meet one of the following requirements with respect to TB testing: 1. Cattle from herds WITH verified wildlife risk mitigation action plan – NO TB testing is required, but a movement permit is required. 2. Cattle from herd WITHOUT a verified wildlife risk mitigation action plan – A negative individual TB test within 60 days and movement permit is required. 3. If you are unsure about the TB test requirements for your area please consult the MDARD website or call 517-373-1077.
Out-of-State Cattle must be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary health certificate that lists the animal’s official identification EXACTLY as it appears on the animal. 1. Official identification is either a USDA alphanumeric metal ear tag OR an official electronic identification tag (RFID Tag) OR an official breed registry tattoo that is unique to that individual and corresponds exactly to the tattoo identification number on official breed registration papers. 2. Fair tags, bangle tags, tattoos that do not match registration papers, and tattoos in non-registered cattle are NOT official identification. 3. For questions regarding requirements to move cattle into Michigan Call the Michigan Department of Agriculture 517-373-1077. Market Show Show Order: Angus, AOB, Charolais, Composite Charolais, Chi, Hereford, Maine, Maintainer, Shorthorn, Shorthorn Plus, Simmental, Simm Solution, Market Heifer and Crossbred. Cattle will be shown by breed and then broken down by weight. Registration Requirements: All steers entered in a specific breed must be registered solely in the name of the youth exhibitor with their respective national breed association. Registration papers must be presented at check- in. All steers must be tattooed and tattoos must correspond to the registration papers. All steers will abide by guidelines for registry as established by the respective national breed association. Registered, low percentage steers that are dual registered can show with only one breed and must be entered as such. Shorthorn Plus division includes all “appendix” registered shorthorns with 50% or greater Shorthorn as well as registered Durham Red. Market Heifers: Market Heifers will be shown by weight. Market heifers may be shown in breeding classes but have to be registered separately for each.
Heifer Show The heifer show on Sunday is an open show. Animals must meet the age requirements. Show Order: Commercial, Angus, AOB, Charolais, Composite Charolais, Chi, Hereford, Maine, Maintainer, Shorthorn, and Shorthorn Plus, Simmental, and Simm Solution. Heifers will be shown by breed from youngest to oldest based on registration papers, except for commercial heifers, which will be shown by weight. Eligibility: Heifers must have a birthdate after September 1, 2019 to be eligible to show. Registration Requirements: All heifers entered in a specific breed must be registered solely in the name of the exhibitor with their respective national breed association. Registration papers must be presented at check- in. All breeding heifers must be tattooed and tattoos must correspond to the registration papers. All heifers will abide by guidelines for registry as established by the respective national breed association. Registered, low percentage heifers that are dual registered can show with only one breed and must be entered as such. Shorthorn Plus division includes all “appendix” registered shorthorns with 50% or greater Shorthorn as well as registered Durham Red. Bred and Owned: Any heifer or market animal that is Bred and Owned by the exhibitor may participate in this show. Only registered animals are eligible, no crossbred/commercial animals. Animals MUST be bred and owned by the exhibitor. The show will run simultaneously with the regular heifer and market show. After each breed champion selection and overall champion selection, a bred and owned will be selected if the champion or reserve do not qualify. No extra entry fee is necessary; just check the box on the entry form if your animal is Bred and Owned. Breed Requirements For the following breeds, the animal must meet the percentage requirements listed below. If less than 4 animals in one breed they may show as AORB.
Angus Heifer & Steer: Purebred Angus Registration Papers Charolais Heifer: Purebred Registration papers Char Composite Heifer & Steer: Charolais Registration Papers & Color Requirements Chi Heifer & Steer: All registration papers issued by the ACA Hereford Heifer & Steer: Purebred Hereford Registration Papers Limousin Heifer & Steer: Purebred Limousin Registration Papers Maine Heifer & Steer: 75%- Maine Registration Papers (Brown) Mainetainer Heifer and Steer: 25%-74% All registration papers issued by the Maine Association. Shorthorn Heifer & Steer: 15/16 – Shorthorn Registration Papers Shorthorn Plus Heifer & Steer: Minimum 50% - Shorthorn Plus Registration Papers Purebred Simmental Heifer & Steer: 7/8 or greater Simmental Registration Papers Percentage Simmental Heifer & Steer: Minimum 50% but no greater than 7/8 Simmental Registration Papers. AORB- Any animal that does not meet the above requirements but possesses a valid breed registration paper. Any Other Registered Breeds and Commercial/ Market Division: The AOB division will include all breeds not listed in the “showtimes and order” section. Market animals that are not registered will be shown in the crossbred steer or market heifer or commercial heifer division. Crossbred steers and market heifers will be shown by weight. By completing entry to this show, exhibitors and their families/guests are agreeing to all rules in this entry packet as well as any additional rules that the show committee, facility staff, or show officials deem as necessary.
