Questions for Discussion/Reflection on 1 Corinthians 15:35-58

1. How do the following passages describe the resurrection? John
   6:39-40; Acts 24:15b; Job 19:25-26; 1 Thessalonians 4:16

2. What comes to mind when you think of heaven and life after death?
   Do you tend to think of it in vague, “spiritual” terms? How does the
   description of resurrected bodies in 1 Corinthians 15 challenge that
   view?

3. What are the two questions that are asked in v. 35? How would you
   summarize the way that the passage answers each question?

4. What do a seed and the plant that grows from it have in common?
   What is different about them? How does that help explain our
   resurrected bodies? (15:36-37)

5. How have you most acutely experienced the perishing and
   weakness of your body? (15:42-43)

6. In what way did Jesus (the “last Adam”) become a life-giving spirit?
   (15:45) See John 6:35-58.

7. How do the following verses explain what is meant by “the last
   trumpet” in v. 52? Zechariah 9:14; Matthew 24:30-31; 1 Corinthians
   15:24

8. How does the content about the resurrection in chapter 15 lead to
   the conclusion in v. 58?
Sunday, July 18, 2021 This vict’ry march continues till the day
                                                    Ev’ry eye and heart shall see Him.
Christ the Lord Is Risen Today
                                                    So Spirit, come, put strength in ev’ry stride;
Christ the Lord is ris’n today, Alleluia!
                                                    Give grace for ev’ry hurdle, that we may run
Sons of men and angels say: Alleluia!
                                                    With faith to win the prize
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
                                                    Of a servant good and faithful.
Sing, ye heav’ns and earth reply: Alleluia!
                                                    As saints of old still line the way,
Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
                                                    Retelling triumphs of His grace,
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
                                                    We hear their calls, and hunger for the day
Dying once He all doth save, Alleluia!
                                                    When, with Christ, we stand in glory.
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!
Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia! I Will Wait for You
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
                                                    Out of the depths I cry to You,
Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia!
                                                    In darkest places I will call;
Christ has opened Paradise, Alleluia!
                                                    Incline Your ear to me anew,
Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia! And hear my cry for mercy, Lord.
Foll’wing our exalted Head, Alleluia!
                                                    Were You to count my sinful ways,
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
                                                    How could I come before Your throne?
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!
                                                    Yet full forgiveness meets my gaze;
                                                    I stand redeemed by grace alone.
O Church, Arise
                                                    (Chorus)
O church, arise and put your armor on;
                                                    I will wait for You, I will wait for You;
Hear the call of Christ our Captain;
                                                    On Your word I will rely.
For now the weak can say that they are strong
                                                    I will wait for You, surely wait for You,
In the strength that God has given.
                                                    Till my soul is satisfied.
With shield of faith and belt of truth
                                                    So put Your hope in God alone;
We’ll stand against the devil’s lies;
                                                    Take courage in His power to save.
An army bold whose battle cry is “Love!”
                                                    Completely and forever won
Reaching out to those in darkness.
                                                    By Christ emerging from the grave.
Our call to war, to love the captive soul,
                                                    (Chorus)
But to rage against the captor;
And with the sword that makes the wounded whole, Now He has come to make a way,
We will fight with faith and valor. And God Himself has paid the price,
                                                    That all who trust in Him today
When faced with trials on ev’ry side,
                                                    Find healing in His sacrifice.
We know the outcome is secure,
And Christ will have the prize for which He died− (Chorus)
An inheritance of nations. I will wait for You, I will wait for You,
Come, see the cross where love and mercy meet, Through the storm and through the night.
As the Son of God is stricken; I will wait for You, surely wait for You,
Then see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet, For Your love is my delight.
For the Conqueror has risen!
                                                    It Is Well with My Soul
And as the stone is rolled away, When peace like a river attendeth my way,
And Christ emerges from the grave, When sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot,
                                                    Thou hast taught me to say,

                                                                                                CCLC# 146712
“It is well, it is well with my soul.”
(Chorus)
It is well (It is well)
With my soul, (With my soul)
 It is well, it is well with my soul.
Though Satan should buffet, Tho’ trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.
(Chorus)
My sin− O, the bliss of this glorious thought,
My sin− not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
(Chorus)
And, Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll,
The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend,
“Even so”− it is well with my soul.
(Chorus)
