FEBRUARY 23, 2022 6:00 pm GRAND RAPIDS CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS James and Shirley Balk Center for Administrative Services 2400 Plymouth Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506 Preparing students to be effective servants of Christ in contemporary society Dear Grand Rapids Christian Schools Families and Friends: Since its inception over a century ago, Grand Rapids Christian Schools (GRCS) has embraced the opportunity to provide a world-class education that is distinctively Christian and accessible to students from all walks of life. We are engaging in something truly transformative – preserving a 100-year legacy of excellence and aspiring toward a future where every student discovers their passion, develops their talents, and brings those gifts to the world. With this in mind, we are already busy preparing for the start of the 2022-2023 school year at Grand Rapids Christian Schools. The Board of Trustees, supported by the hard work of the Finance Committee and GRCS Business Office staff, unanimously approved the proposed 2022-2023 Operating Budget and corresponding tuition rates on January 19, 2022. In addition, the Board unanimously approved three board nominees to fill vacant board seats for term 2022 — 2025. We are pleased to present the budget and introduce you to the nominees on the pages that follow for your review and approval. In doing so, you enable our leadership and staff to continue moving forward in preparation for the coming school year. Please complete and return your absentee ballot (found at the conclusion of this notice), according to the options outlined in that section if you are unable to attend the Annual Meeting in person. As we look ahead, let me also take a moment to highlight a couple other important activities. The 2022-2027 Strategic Plan is currently in development, and will incorporate educational programming and strategic financial goals determined to be important priorities to ensure our students continue to thrive. Please watch for an update on this important multi-year strategic plan in the months ahead. Secondly, although the pandemic has long-delayed our 100-Year Celebration (commemorating the centennial of Christian High), we will be kicking-off an extended season of celebration later this year. We invite you and your family to mark this amazing moment with us, a moment 100 years in the making! Please watch for additional communications in the months ahead as we share the many ways we plan to celebrate together. Last, but certainly not least, I want to personally thank you for your grace, prayers, and many notes of encouragement as we continue to navigate the ever-present challenges of COVID. Thank you, too, for entrusting your children’s Christian education to our care. With your faithful support and the amazing dedication of our teachers and staff, we remain uniquely positioned to develop the next generation of Christ-following leaders, preparing them to serve and positively influence the world around them. Thank you for advancing this important mission with us! Tom DeJonge, Superintendent —Grand Rapids Christian Schools
