Nurse Updates: Choosing Safer Activities - Click Here Students with Food Allergies: Please be aware that an ice cream truck will be at the Elementary School on May 7th. Nurse Kim will have an allergy free option available. Please call her with any questions or concerns. Covid symptoms and allergies can appear very similar. If your student has allergies, please submit a doctor’s note stating this to Nurse Kim. This way if your student presents with congestion/runny nose, a documented condition of allergies will be on file. Your student may then be able to remain in in-person learning instead of being sent home for MD assessment. COVID Symptoms: Below is a full list of symptoms for which parents/guardians should monitor their children for: Fever of 100F or higher Chills; shaking chills Cough - not due to other known causes such as physician documented allergies or chronic cough Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath New loss of taste or smell Headache Muscle aches or body aches Nausea/Vomiting or diarrhea Fatigue when in combination with other symptoms Sore throat Nasal congestion or runny nose - not due to other known physician documented causes such as allergies; or when in combination with other symptoms. If your student has a symptom on the COVID list, please keep them home and attend classes as a virtual learner if possible. Students with symptoms of COVID will need a doctor’s clearance or a negative COVID test to return to school. **New COVID Policy (Updated 5/3/2021):** If a student is a Confirmed Positive COVID case : They must isolate for 10 days from either the date of symptom onset or the date of testing, if they are asymptomatic. They may return to school/sports on day 11 but will need a doctor’s note to return to sports or gym if applicable. *See below If a student is a Close Contact to a Positive COVID case, there are 3 options for quarantine: Option 1: 7 days of strict quarantine. This requires a negative PCR test done on day 5 or later and the student having no symptoms. The student then may return to school/sports on day 8. Parent must continue to monitor student for symptoms for the full 14 days Option 2: Strict quarantine for 10 days, return on day 11 and monitor student’s symptoms for the remaining 4 days. There is no test required for this option. Option 3: Quarantine for the full 14 days *Return to School/Gym/Sports/Activities after Positive COVID The Massachusetts Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics (MCAAP) has issued guidance that Mass. youth returning to sports after COVID should have a Physician's clearance and have a gradual return to activity. The reason is that COVID may have adverse effects on the cardiovascular system. The MCAAP has recently updated its guidance on this topic and it can be found here.
