Your Region As a Higher Level Institute, we are defined by our region of North Leinster, South Ulster – with the town of Dundalk positioned at its centre. The campus is located on the outskirts of Dundalk, a town famous for its eclectic music scene. Mature Students DkIT welcomes mature students (aged 23 and over on Jan 1st of year of entry), both full-time and part-time. We are here to ensure your life skills and work experience are taken into account as much as your academic qualifications. If you already have experience of higher education study, you may be able to join a course in the second year or third year. If you have no formal qualifications, do not let that stop you. We want you to benefit from learning and study, and complete your programme successfully. Accessible Learning Our Disability Office provides supports and advocates on behalf of any student with a physical, sensory, learning disability, or has a mental health condition that interferes with their learning process. If you have a disability or medical condition, please get in touch as soon as you apply for a place at DkIT. The office can help with additional study needs, assistive technology, provide guidance on funding for disability support and recommend any other adjustments required. DkIT Now Eligible for DARE Scheme The Disability Access Route (DARE) is a third level admissions scheme to promote equity of access to higher education for school leavers with a disability. DkIT reseves a limited number of places on its undergraduate programmes for DARE applicants. To be eligible for DARE you must meet both the DARE evidence of disability criteria and DARE educational impact criteria. Life Changing Research We are passionate about research and innovation and believe strongly in its ability to transform society. Our research makes a vital contribution to the economic, social and cultural life of the North Leinster, South Ulster Region of Ireland and beyond. We currently have 87 students enrolled in research or taught Masters (Level 9) and PhD (Level 10) programmes at DkIT.
21st Century Graduates DkIT graduates are in high demand by both employers and institutes of higher education across Ireland and beyond. Our emphasis on hands- on learning through work-placements, student projects, practical assessment, and our close links with industry means that our graduates are going on to have very successful careers across all sectors. In 2016, global OECD recognised DkIT as a ‘highly performing institution in respect of entrepreneurial behaviours and mindsets amongst staff and students.’ All academic courses have embedded elements of entrepreneurship within them with the aim of producing desirable graduate attributes such as creativity, critical thinking and teamwork. These placements are designed to allow you to get a head start in the workplace. Andris Macs 2016 Graduate of BB in Business and Technology Andris went from flipping burgers one day to flying to New York on business the next in his new position as Business Development Analyst with Dundalk-based start-up company, Gecko Governance. Andris completed a work placement with Gecko as part of his course and was subsequently offered a role with the company upon graduation. “I had nothing but the best time at DkIT, the work placement was invaluable and I think it’s worked out quite well for me because I secured a full-time position with Gecko upon graduating from my course.”

Your Sport At DkIT we believe sport is for all, from absolute beginner to top-class athlete, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved, keep healthy and get active. DkIT Sports and Societies The Sports and Societies office in DkIT offers a range of student based activities and assists in the development of more than 50 clubs and societies. The office employs a GAA Co-ordinator, part-time Soccer Co-ordinator, Rugby Development Officer and a number of other coaches. DkIT Sport DkIT Sport, our flagship multimillion euro indoor facility, provides a variety of fitness, sport and wellbeing opportunities including: a fully equipped gym, 8 indoor 5 aside football pitches, 65m x 35m training area, team strength and conditioning area, 20-metre swimming pool and steam room & jacuzzi. The facility is a short 10 minutes’ walk from campus and all students receive free membership with their student fee. Get Involved The DkIT Sports & Societies Office runs over 50 student-led clubs and societies, bringing together like-minded students. Whether you want to pursue an existing interest or try something completely new, there is something for everyone – from football to politics, photography to horse- riding, dance to fashion and even circus arts. Your Students Union When you come to DkIT, you will have the chance to become a member of the SU – one of the most active students’ unions in the country. Selecting Your Level DkIT offers different levels of qualifications in line with the National Framework of Qualifications and there is a high level of flexibility with regard to points of entry along ones study path. At undergraduate level, the following awards can be made at DkIT: Higher Certificate: This is a NFQ Level 6 qualification and normally takes 2 years of full-time study. LEVEL 6 Successful completion of a Higher Certificate may provide entry to an ordinary Bachelor’s degree. Ordinary Bachelor’s Degree: LEVEL 7 This is a NFQ Level 7 qualification which usually takes 3 years of full-time study. At DkIT we offer an extensive range of BA and BSc Degrees. Honours Bachelor’s Degree: This is a NFQ Level 8 qualification which can take 3 or 4 years of full-time study. LEVEL 8 At DkIT we offer 22 Honours Degrees across a wide selection of courses. Successful completion of an Honours Bachelor Degree will mean students are eligible to continue to postgraduate at DkIT. Postgraduate: DkIT has a range of postgraduate opportunities available to students with our offering in LEVEL 9/10 this area is growing each year. DkIT has a Strategic Alliance with Dublin City University (DCU) which supports both institutes’ ambition research agenda and ensures greater access and progression opportunities for learners, from all backgrounds. Add-On courses are a continuation course from Higher Certificate to Bachelors and Bachelors to Honours Bachelors. These courses are linked to certain undergraduate courses within the college.
