THE CONSIGNORS WELCOME TO THE 7TH ANNUAL PRAIRIE DISTINCTION SALE. R & G McDonald Livestock | Lot 1-13 This year the number of bulls is down, but the quality is the best it has ever been from top to bottom. The three consignors have put forth the top of their bull pens, and what a top it is. There are bulls here that will work in all segments of the industry, which is proven by the many repeat customers we have had in the past. There are white, tan and red factor bulls, with quality in all colours. From bulls that would work in the heifer pen, to power bulls that will give you as Ron & Gail McDonald much performance as you would like, they are all here. Box 85, Sidney, MB R0H 1L0 These breeders are here for the long haul and will work 204-466-2883 • C 204-724-2811 to provide you with bulls that will last. The coming two- rgmcdonaldlivestock@inethome.ca year old bulls in the sale are designed to be that and are not leftovers. Double P Stock Farms | Lot 14-19 This past fall, we again saw the premium paid for the Charcross calves as consistently high as it has ever been in the auction markets. Crossbreeding is essential to maximize profits in the cattle business and these bulls will give you the added performance, meat and hair to put your calves in the top cut pen come sale time. Feel free to give the consignors a call, or stop to have a visit with them before sale day if you want a little extra time to meet the breeders and see their operations. Again this year, the sale will be broadcast live on the internet at By Livestock Online. If you can’t make the Neil & Lisa Preston sale, you can view and bid online. Please register early if Box 790, Ste Rose du Lac, MB R0L 1S0 you are going to take advantage of this service. Just go 204-732-2054 • lisap@inethome.ca to www.bylivestock.com and follow the prompts. Videos Jared Preston • 204-647-5416 • jppreston223@gmail.com of the bulls are also available there. The bulls will be available for viewing the day before and Johnston Charolais | Lot 20-32 the morning of the sale for your convenience. R & G MCDONALD LIVESTOCK • LOTS 1-13 Welcome to the 7th Annual Prairie Distinction Bull Sale. Thank You to all our past customers. We appreciate those who took the time to view the bulls prior to last year’s sale and all the online bidders we had due to the Covid-19 restrictions we had to deal with. Hard to believe it’s been 7 years already. This year we are consigning 13 yearlings, of which 6 are off our new walking sire Steppler Magnum 56F, and 4 of the bulls are 3/4 brothers. We have added corn silage to our ration this year to provide more roughage along with MasterFeeds grower pellet, grass hay and mineral. All shots are up to date. 12 of the 13 bulls are homozygous polled. They are quiet, hairy, thick, deep and good footed bulls. Feel free to call, view the videos online, or come to view the bulls before sale day, as we deal with any ongoing restrictions there might be. JOHNSTON CHAROLAIS • LOTS 20-32 Well we could all go on about 2020, whether it be covid, weather, or markets, but I won’t. 2021 marks our 25th year of raising and registering Charolais cattle. Our cows are calved on grass close to home. Asked by many, how can you calve late spring when you are either preparing to plant or are planting? It’s what mother nature intended all along, birthing on grass, and low stress environmental conditions to the newborn calf. And the mother gets rebred when grasses are at peak nutrition. Unless malpresentation or twinning, unassisted births are the norm. We manage close to 100 head of cattle, mainly registered Charolais, and a small commercial herd we implant embryos in from time to time, as well as 1800 seeded acres of grain and row crop with limited help. We have culled and developed our herd for problem free, well uddered, mothering but manageable cows, that are well adapted to our grass calving. Vaccinated with the bovishield gold program, as well as fusogard for footrot, these not quite two-year old bulls have been fed a TMR ration corn silage base. Appreciated by our customer base to well handle the large pasture conditions and stand the test of time. The CE Rank 1 is recommended for heifers and cows. 2 is recommended for second time calves and mature cows. 3 is recommemded for smaller framed and larger mature cows. 4 is recommnded for mature cows. We encourage you to call ahead, come inspect the bulls and our program prior, as we will assist you in selecting the right bull for your program. Johnston Charolais reserves the right to draw semen on these bulls for in-herd use, at our expense and you’re convenience.
